These are some very good lens choices. I have them all, but if I have to pick 1 between them, here's what I would look at: - The 50mm: Even today, it is still one of the sharpest lenses I have seen from Nikon, and while it is not very cheap, but the insane value you get for the image quality is unbeatable! I personally love the image quality, but 50mm is no longer a focal length that I use much. I mostly use the 35mm, but it is far behind in terms of IQ when compared to this lens. It's not that it's bad at all, but this 50mm just sets the bar so high for the 1.8 S line of glass. - The 28mm: This is an excellent lens to permanently replace your body cap. It's bright, compact, and can work well for both wider angle shots as well as tighter close ups due to its fantastic minimum focus distance at 19mm only. Its compactness is only beaten by the 26mm F2.8, which is darker and quite more expensive. - The 12-28mm: The most obvious one if you're a lone content creator who would benefit from its power zoom functionality. Another important feature is that this is the widest angle lens that Nikon produces for the Z mount. However, if you're looking at something wider and brighter and you don't mind manual focus, the TTArtisan 10mm f2 is a decent enough choice, and I would say it gets you comparable IQ when you stop down to f5.6.
I completely agree! I just purchased this lens and it’s great. I had the Nikon version and it seemed a little soft. The Viltrox is sharp, light and really good
Nikon is selling their 40/2 for $226. At those price levels a small difference doesn't matter, and Nikon is definitely a better of the two. Viltrox has chosen a loosing strategy, you can't compete on price alone. The phrase, "it's good (not bad) for the price" is a death sentence. You need to at least match the quality and offer a better price on top of that, then they would have had a chance.

Viltrox 40mm is the king of budget lenses. £125 inc shipping, and it's a gem!

@@scotth4019 I had both and tested both side by side, Nikon is definitely better in almost every way.
