Jenni Lowe-Anker on the Loss of Husband/Climber Alex Lowe

- Jennifer Lowe-Anker, who just won the National Outdoor Book Award for literature for "Forget Me Not," discusses with Forbes Adventurer Jim Clash the loss of her husband (the great climber Alex Lowe) and her subsequent marriage to Conrad Anker, Lowe's friend and the climber who found George Mallory's remains on Everest.
It makes perfect sense to me that they would get together. They both loved Alex, they would have known each other and his concern for her well being and the children would have been important to him. Who better to fall in love with. They can continue to keep Alex alive in their memories, and to share them with love to the children. To me this is a beautiful arrangement and I wish them many years of happiness.
You are an inspiration. Ignore the ignorance of others, I'm sure Alex is tickled pink knowing you ended up with Conrad at the end of all of your grief
Inspiration why?
To all those criticizing Jennifer and Conrad for being together...what is it your business? She is no naive "little woman" taken advantage of by the 'evil 'best friend' out to usurp his buddy's life' as I've seen some say. Utter juvenile perceptions of an adult relationship they both wanted after such a tragedy. Sometimes to heal survivors do reach out to each other, connecting through the memory of those they both lost. It's not uncommon nor is it seedy. It's just life. I have a lot of respect for all three, Alex, Conrad and Jennifer. They each had/have their own strengths worthy of awe and respect, not just because they are perceived 'heroes' but because they live/lived their way, their dream(s) with courage and humanity. "You cannot keep an eagle in a barnyard", was a quote from George Mallory's widow, and so true.
It's clear no one understand none of the people in this. Jenny is no shrinking violet. Alex certainly was a wild child in terms of his dedication to climbing. Conrad is a beast among men in terms of his climbing abilities. Alex would have been proud of how Conrad stepped up and took care of his family. As for Conrad and Jenny, walk a mile. As Jenny said here, she barely knew Conrad, but both have done everything to remember Alex and have dedicated their time and energy to carry Alex's dedication to the mountain community and the Sherpas who porter these expeditions up these great peaks. Like you have the utmost respect for Conrad, Alex and Jenny. And I love your quote from George Mallory's widow. Ironically back in Mallory's day and age, had Andrew Irvine survived the 1924 climb that took them both, Irvine would have been considered a hero for coming back and marrying Ruth Mallory. I don't understand this penchant to attack Jenny and Conrad for falling in love. I consider it very chivalric, and I'm sure Alex was smiling down on the both of them.
ANKER lusted for his friend LOWE'S WIFE, and quickly married her after LOWE died. I wonder if ANKER pushed LOWE TO HIS DEATH ?

Just as it is your right to have an opinion that their union is not seedy or classless, others have the right to their opinions.
Perhaps conrad had a 'thing' for his best friend's wife. Perhaps? They ran the risk of public scrutiny & the chickens have come home to roost.
That's what happens when you start dating 3 months after.
Alex wasn't the only one to pass on that mountain that day.
But he is the subject of this interview.
I think that Alex would have approved.....Jennifer is a lovely lady and Conrad felt so badly that he survived the avalanche.....he hung around to help Jenn as any friend would...there was nothing inappropriate....anyone who says differently is just being petty ....besides whose business is it anyway? They belong together and I think it was good they found each other....be happy for their joy and happiness!
Everyone is entitled to follow the life of their choice. Why such vehemence and gossip directed here ? There is already enough tragedy in this story.
Exactly! So much vitriol and backwards thinking...such 'Victorian' views of people who never lived their lives by convention! Sounds more like an imagined soap opera plot than reality. lol.
Probably because they got together 3 months after. It's in the new movie.
I believe you are 'just saying' wrongly. Nothing wrong with re-marrying two years after being bereaved. You should be happy for them.
Except they started dating 3 months after.
Nice
nice
She's lucky marrying 2 good looking men.
and those that said just add water..
Hmm... Why is that? Thats my last name.
Anker looks sincere enough. Look movie MERU2015 about the detail story.
Ignore these negative comments. All happiness, as I am sure late husband would wish.
Hmmm...don't mean to sound suspicious but that dude married his climbing buddies wife less than two years after he died...on a climb that Anker was on WITH him. Hope he didn't do anything to add to Lowe's death...
Oh shut the fuck up. He made sure his friend's kids were well provided for. As he did for his wife.
I BET ANKER PUSHED LOWE TO THIS DEATH TO MARRY LOWE'S WIFE
freaking muggles still popping up like you are shockingly still stupid
I cant believe he just slid in there ! And she was mor. thtan willing
LIFE INSURANCE
Slid in is right.
She welcomed him RIGHT IN ✅
Mountain. Groupie !
That can’t be a thing
Makes ppl think what was going on while Alex was still alive with her and Conrad....just saying.
dcvbvd
Nah, only people with sinister minds. Just saying
I agree with pillbox. It is unbelievable to me that she married her husband's climbing partner. Disgraceful behavior.
You are disgraceful. Jenny was no naive woman and Conrad was no Lothario. Both people are exemplary in the way they are remembering Alex's legacy. Clearly you need to do more research on this, because you clearly don't understand the brotherhood of the mountains.

They started dating 3 months after his death.
Got to agree, it’s a strange one… you have to think, in 1999 Conrad was actually living out of his van… and very shortly after Alex’s death he moved into his best pals home, took his best pals children to Disney land, and married his best pals wife…. If Alex hadn’t died and him and Jenifer naturally got divorced, and Conrad steamed in and got with her I wonder if folks opinions would still be the same… it’s obviously there life, there business, but I’m a believer in morals… and I think it’s morally wrong
She couldn't get another man eh? what convenient and write a book as well what a "Lady'
freaking muggles still popping up like you are shockingly still stupid
What are misogynistic comment
it sounds like the friend caused the Avalanche, and caused Alex's death. Surprising to see Conrad survives and Alex dies!

It's odd to form such a strong opinion about people you know NOTHING about.
What's disgraceful about marrying a man you barely knew before your husband's death? Two years after his death. A comment posted here for the children and family that really know them to read, that's disgraceful.
Wow You do not even know these people yet you pass judgment?
@@percivalhowell7516 She will never get over the loss That is how grief works even if you do marry again Educate yourself
It didn't take long for conrad to get together with Alex's widow.
