I was truly shocked that there was that much... and you said he just borrowed the extractor again to do another harvest in October. I need to find out how much more he got.
That is amazing! Harvesting every 3 weeks is just crazy! I am envious of the folks in the upper midwest where the flow can go 3+ months. Of course they need enough for 5+ months of winter 😛 That ramp set-up is pretty slick. I use an old bed sheet, and have it set into a new box, so I'll shake the whole hive on it. Capped honey frames go toward getting extracted, all the brood frames go to the old box and the older bees and foragers will fly back into their old box to make a new queen. Old queen and young bees all climb into the new box with new frames and I just got myself a split using an artificial swarm! No need to search for the queen. Be blessed and look forward to seeing how the Philippine bees do. 🙂
I agree. Totally amazing. That’s the best I’ve ever seen from a single colony. You’re right though, we are blessed with a super long flow in northern Indiana. The flow starts in May and stays heavy through July then slows a bit in August and then if we have good weather we can get a massive goldenrod and aster flow in September going into October. Pretty much they go to bed in mid November and we won’t see much of them until late April. I love your split method. Good luck with your colonies and thank you for watching as always. God bless you my friend. Bee well.
Absolutely right! We had so much fun and that honey was incredible. Every harvest tasted different. My friend won a second place award at the county agricultural fair for the first batch of extra light honey. I was very proud. So he can brag now that he has award winning honey for sale. Lol. God bless. Thank you for the support and comments and encouragement.
When you get back to the Philippines could you do a comparison between apis melifera vs apis cerana honey vs apis florea honey. I think apis florea honey is very rare but milifera and cerana are easily obtainable.
That’s a great idea, but in my location I haven’t been able to find any apis cerana or Florea honey. I will stay on the lookout and I’ll even try to find apis dorsata honey for the comparison. I love the idea and I look forward to hearing from you again with any other comments or suggestions. God bless and bee well my friend.
Because I live in the Philippines and that’s where I keep my bees and do my farming. I was just home in Indiana on vacation and was helping my friends with their bees. I hope that answers your question. God bless and I hope you’ll check out my other videos. Trying to make honey here in the Philippines is way harder than in the USA despite it looking like a beekeeper’s paradise. Bee well.

Afesmilefera bees.
Correct again. I have no training in any other variety. Someday I hope to work with native Filipino bees too but not quite yet. God bless.
