BMW R Nine T Scrambler Rear Wheel Removal & Reinstall

- This is a quick DIY tutorial on how to remove and reinstall the rear wheel on a BMW R Nine T Scrambler. The procedure should be the same for 2014 to 2018 variants of the R Nine T including the Classic, Pure, Urban G/S, and Racer. It's a pretty straight-forward and simple procedure.
Tools:
A torque wrench with an extension and a T50 Torx bit
Some WD-40 or similar lubricant
And finally, a bike stand. I use the abba superbike stand.
Get the bike up on a stand and the rear wheel off the ground.
If the bike is still in neutral, move the shifter up to second gear to keep the wheel from turning.
Loosen the bolts in a criss-cross pattern. I go over that towards the end of the video when I re-install the rear wheel.
All you need to do is to unbolt the 5 wheel bolts. You don't need to deflate the tires or remove the mufflers with the exception of the Nine T classic. Go slow and easy so that you don't slam any metal together.
With the rear wheel off you can perform procedures such as the final drive fluid change, replacing your rear tire, or replacing the brake rotor.
Before I re-install the rear wheel, I'm gonna hit the wheel bolts with some WD-40 to prevent rust and the bolts from seizing onto the wheel carrier.
Clean up the areas of the wheel and wheel carrier where they make contact and I'm going to finger tighten the bolts on. Be cautious here as the wheel will slip off periodically as you screw the bolts in.
Set your torque wrench to a low setting like 10 ft. lb. Tighten them down in the criss-cross pattern.
Then set your torque wrench to 60 Nm or 44.25 ft. lb. and tighten all the bolts again in the criss-cross pattern.
Remember to reset your torque wrench to 0 when you're done.

Very useful video - thank you.
One question: I have an Abba Superbike stand but there's no fitting kit for the R Nine T so which adapters are you using?
Hi Michael. Abba does makes a fitting kit for the R Nine T but it's not advertised. And it does not show up in their drop down menu. The thing is, they have had complaints in regards to the stand being too difficult to use for some people because it requires more leverage to get the Nine T up on the stand. You'll have to email them directly to get a Nine T fitting kit. That's what I had to do. Thanks for watching and happy wrenching.
Im looking on the Abba website and they dont list the rnineT as option for fitment with their stands. I see you have some sort of modification at the attachment point....
@olivedjazzer Someone else commented that they want to see a video of how I have my Abba bike stand set up. So I'll make that video in the next few days that explains it. Thank you.
@@arugolaworkshop thanks so much. I ended up getting a pit bull and using a jack with some blocking for the oil pan. I'm much rather have a center mount option
Excellent. Thank you.
You are welcome! Thanks for watching.
The pinch bolts on my 2017 r nine t are need about a T35 socket. I can't find one, are they available?
Hi William, I don't recall ever having to use a T35 on my 9T. And it is odd that most Torx sets seem to go from T30 to T40, skipping over a T35. Perhaps it's a T40 that happens to be a tight fit? Not all Torx bits are the same. Some are cut a little differently and can seem to cause mating issues. Sorry I can't be of more help, but thanks for checking out the video.
