Best guide ive seen for this game so far ...quick , informative and no unnecessary bla bla ..well done Sir ! Greetings from Germany . Btw i like your accent .
Thank you for this video, so much information I never knew especially the platforms at mines, farms, ranches, etc where the products are loaded for pickup. I started a new game and followed your instructions of building mines and farms first and everything is flowing pretty nicely. I used to always go into the red, only went in once because the dockworkers didn't service a ship. I can't wait to get Tropico 5!
Thanks for the guide. FYI: its better to put your mine to the side of the deposit, and not on top of the deposit, because they cannot mine metal that is "destroyed/below" the mine. This is true for all mines, including Salt mines, which specifically say "place on deposit". Also its advantageous to have 2 mines either side of the deposit, as this doubles the extraction rate and hence doubles how quickly you make money from the mine.
Thanks for this video I picked up some good tips like the one with the apartments and not building a residential area as that was what i was doing, and I never knew about the island overview very handy thanks again.
I always build all the mines with quick build, because if you dont have the garage somewhere near, the constructors will walk all the way from the mine back accross the island, and that is much more expensive than building the mine with quick build... also my play style is that i dont build any farms and i build only marketplaces that depends on imports and teamsters... and if there is a chance i allways build the weapons facility because it generates a tons of money allways in any scenario... and iron is something that you have on island in 95% maps (or you can import it)... also i build some more docks... usually i have 2 or 3 on one beach together (if you have docks on several beaches the teamsters for some reason will ignore the docks and use only docks on your starting beach)...
This guide helped me a bunch with direction on how to do stuff! I did the tutorial in game but was still confused before watching this. They should have called Teamsters as distributors instead. I was so confused by them at first.
Had Tropico 3 for a while now and every once in a while pick it up, but just bought Tropico 4 from Steam at a steal for £4.49 so decided to watch you video for a bit of a brush up which works for me. Nice video reminded me of a few things I had forgot but should be able to get back in to it fairly easy now...
thanks for the vid i went and bought this game off steam (very cheap), i'm not usually into these kind of simulation games but wanted to try one and was gonna get sim city but seeing as how EA have completely cocked up that i went for this. excellent game.
You don't have to look at boxes stored next to the building, it tells you in the pop up what you're input storage and output storage is. If goods are not being moved, output storage will be high.
The problem is, if you up some ones wages, people will leave a job to work at the highest paid place... so some times instead of increasing "X job" select increase "college workers" for example... this does cost you more, but means people stay in the same job.
I had that issue right when I started, I found that making Mines and Lumber Mills helped keep my money up. That and being patient; Don't use all your money at once, or when the game automatically gives workers their wages, you'll go into debt. You can also use your avatar to buff those mines, mills, farms, ETC early on, which might help. Also, Industry buildings help you get more profit, but I haven't tried using those very often. Also, Try using the Island Economy Overlay, Helps you see where a lot of your money is gained and lost.
Yeah I actually just started playing last night first thing is not too much construction at once, build some mines and farms with a export selected..have to use the economy overlay though! Nearly lost the election last night in the first scenario but some quick edicts and building apartments helped that out quick as housing was part of my speech. On to round two.
When I play this I always automatically make sure the garages can only hire 1 person it's a waste to have 2 and I've never noticed a negative to having only 1 aside from the single worker quiting, but this is a rarity and the worker is almost always instantly replaced
I was a massive fan of Tropico 3 and after watching the latest Friday night rant and hearing of your enthusiasm i ended up buying myself a copy of this one as well! (£15 shopto.net) I can't wait to get back to running a tropical island and i shall have to return to watch this at a later date now because i want to be surprised! :)
How many squares should I have around a farm? I just started the game 2 days ago, replaying the first mission, and have been putting a farm right next to a road, I am guessing that is probably a bad idea.? As for mines. Say gold, I notice they mine around the building, so should I not place the mine building directly on top, since if it is on top, they can't mine that gold. Thanks for the video, it was very informative.
Currently part of a Humble Bundle along with T3-T6 and DLCs. Long time fan of....Tropico 1....playing that game for 20 fxkn years already, i think its time to upgrade LOL
one thing i always check, is the unemployment number (and open jobs). because there is not much use building farms and stuff, if there is no workers available to work there. spend that money to attract people to the island instead.
It doesn't actually matter if you put your farms next to the road, because they will start farming near the farm where is room to do so and as for the mines. It's best to put right atop of the part you want to mine, except if there is another deposition near that one because they will then mine them both. Hope this answered your questions.
This video is old still I would like add one suggestion that if anything related production is build away from city then always have garage and teamster's building near it and always keep them connected to dock so the logistic will run smoothly. Using Windmills in mountain area will provide 40 MW energy so 10*40 = 400 MW which more than enough for all advance buildings also no need of workforce and clean energy. But really want to know how to boost the population. As in this 30 min vid population growth was 50 to 100 is very slow.
nevermind got the solution. just build crazy like docks and immigrants will flow like tsunami. opendoor policy should be there also u get quick recruits skilled and semiskilled labour.
+Sam Fhisher dude, you are genius, I always had like 80 open job positions, but no one filled, dock idea is marvelous, now the main confusion left is how important are wages and how should I pay uneducated, high-school college people. thanks!
Arch1994 10, 15,20, these are my wages preferences from uneducated to college workers. As per time moves keep increasing the same. Also I keep my wages on education level basis and Not on job type . docks only attract immigrants but tourism also, that's only my opinion.
Nicely done matey - still waiting on my 360 version to drop the letterbox - but this has certainly given me a starter for 10... Going to rewatch again later and make a list of all the things I'll need to do to get me started... might even make this game my next review on the website :)
okay this actually seems kind of visually accurate. I bought T4 during a massive sale based on a youtube review and.... pretty sure in retrospect they had actually shown T5, because my game didn't look anything like theirs and after playing for 2.6 hours, haven't touched it since. That being said, T4 is just too outdated visually and maybe will try 5 since it's on sale now. But will check to see if Jurassicjunkie made a review of it first!! Otoh, youtubers lying about games seems to be super common now, so maybe just screw the whole thing.
the tutoral doesnt tell you much, but this video has been really helpful. I think im gonna have to watch this a few times for it to sink in. so with the exporting and importing do you just ignore it, or is it in the settings (youve probably answered somewhere else, but I told you i'd have to watch this a couple of times.
Yeah I eventually figured the problem had to do with the wages and education in particular when all the jobs that require uneducated workers get quickly abandoned first when you have better paying jobs and a high school where people can train themselves for them.
IMO its one of the most value for money games I've played in a long time £15 for 62 hours of gaming, and I'm I've not even started the Modern Times missions.
What I would like to know is why everytime good 3-4 hours into a game the people start to abandon theirs jobs en masse regardless of every gategory showing over 40% satisfaction and winning re-election goes easilly over 95% margin with plenty of money to throw around aswell, the people just desert the island for no apparent reason at certain point and unless you slide wages all the way upto 50 nobody's filling any jobs.
You don't build the mine ON the gold, you need to build it close to it, or else your miners can't mine it. It took me some time to figure out, but it's very important
thelostgirl101 use mouse wheel to rotate. also check your options for your keyboard key binds. I think you should have already figured out by now. leaving this for the benefit of other new players reading this.
Best guide ive seen for this game so far ...quick , informative and no unnecessary bla bla ..well done Sir ! Greetings from Germany . Btw i like your accent .
Thank you very much 😃
Got this on sale, cannot stop playing.
How much did you buy it for? ;.; I'm trying to buy it now but like I'm a college student and I'm trying to also save money ;.;
I just got this and all dlc for like 5 euro and I'm super addicted now too lol
Are you still playing man?
Same!
Got this on sale with all DLC. This helps to figure out what’s going on
Thank you for this video, so much information I never knew especially the platforms at mines, farms, ranches, etc where the products are loaded for pickup. I have never had a problem fully mining a deposit with a mine directly on top of it.
@@ev6558 Yea, the guy was wrong. You can place them on top of the deposit in T4 but not in T3.
@bolt9110 wrong you can put mines on mineral deposits and you still get all the materials
awesome, I was so swamped when i first picked this game up, had no clue what everything did, this helped out a lot
I hope you enjoy this game, Im not big on sim games, but this just pulled me in.
Your intro music brought me to tears as if the mother Mary herself had placed her hands upon my ears and blessed me with perfect hearing.
Thanks for this video I picked up some good tips like the one with the apartments and not building a residential area as that was what i was doing, and I never knew about the island overview very handy thanks again.

I can hardly beleive that this game is so old , but yet so awesome.
Great vid, one thing to mention. Don't put mines on top of resources, put them just next to it, you get more from them. Except salt.
wrong
Just got this game on sale for xbox, awesome game. Want tropico 5 now
tropico 4 better
Best guide I’ve found for this game!

This guide helped me a bunch with direction on how to do stuff! I did the tutorial in game but was still confused before watching this. They should have called Teamsters as distributors instead. I was so confused by them at first.
Glad it helped, I hope you fall in love with the game as much as I did.

*THAT FEEL WHEN MAMBO HEAVY*
Glad this video helped... I might dust my copy off this week and jump back on it again.
The problem is, if you up some ones wages, people will leave a job to work at the highest paid place... so some times instead of increasing "X job" select increase "college workers" for example... this does cost you more, but means people stay in the same job.
Just got this for free off Bumble, cheers for the great advice!
same, went down to negative money in like 30 mins
Same. I feel like I'm doing something wrong because I'm not making any money. The tutorial wasn't terrible helpful.
I had that issue right when I started, I found that making Mines and Lumber Mills helped keep my money up. Dude you’re awesome -Hahahahahaha I was cracking up with you singing the intro music. Thank you for this video, the shacks are super annoying!
Thanks I been looking for a tips video and this fit the bill. Thank you :)
You don't know how much this video helped!
Cool guide , you are a natural entertainer .Thanks for the vid.
great guide, great voice, love the accent!!
+TeeVees Greatest thank you very much :)
ThankQ for the tips like your explaining
No problem
I still love Tropico 4, 6 had to many things to manage. It wasn't fun i just want to build
Yes, I felt they became more of a challenge and less of a laid back game
Tropico 4 is still the best. Tropico 5 is okay, but it feels like it's not a good. In my opinion.
How is 6?
Huge thumbs up! That's a bunch of really useful tips for beginners like me! Cheers!
Thanks man. You pointed out a few mistakes I was making.
I was a massive fan of Tropico 3 and after watching the latest Friday night rant and hearing of your enthusiasm i ended up buying myself a copy of this one as well! you didnt connected the mine with the main road
HAHAHA did not expect you to do your own rendition of the outro music at the end. Hilarious.
Currently part of a Humble Bundle along with T3-T6 and DLCs. Long time fan of....Tropico 1....playing that game for 20 fxkn years already, i think its time to upgrade LOL
I was always curious about this game. Cheers for the vid.
I've not played 3, but I did buy it yesterday to play on once I've completed this.
Excellent video for an excellent game. Thank you!
Came here after ditching Tropico 6. Everyone says this one is the best in the series. Hope they're right.
I think it is, I enjoyed 6.. But this one is where its at.
Thank you for this!!!
I just start palyed X360 version...and i LOVE it:]
one thing i always check, is the unemployment number (and open jobs). because there is not much use building farms and stuff, if there is no workers available to work there. spend that money to attract people to the island instead.
I've yet to play Tropico 3, but I have just picked it up on steam
Same here, always wondered about this one. Thanks for the vid!

you can click on the built mine and specify the type of metal you want it to mine from the drop down list
Thank you for the helpful review!
thanks for this awsome guide! :)

Glad I found this video, good watch, all 32 minuetes
Nice one JJ might give this one a look!

Thanks a lot... glad you enjoyed it.
Glad you enjoyed it, and yes it is a bloody good game.
I've not got SimCity 5, and dont think I will get it as I dont want to fund EA
the tutoral doesnt tell you much, but this video has been really helpful. good video m8. you basically answered everything I needed to ask :D
Its well worth the buy im 62 hours in and I cant stop playing :S
It was on Xbox live in March 2021so it’s free for me
also it's the download version, they do sell disc versions also.
Yes, you can. You can buy it and download it from App Store.
Thanks for this, the tutorial doesn't explain any of this at all.
Love this game
Tomb Raider is my next game to buy, just waiting until I've finished Tropico first.
Very Helpful Thank you
I got it for free on Gog and started yesterday ish.
Great game in 2024
Why for the sake of el presidente you put mines on top of the color marks??
Call me : " Hell- Presidente."
Defo give it a go, you will get your moneys worth.
Thank you my good man!
you should also check out anno 1404 and it's other games really excellent world builders also.
I thought you're supposed to put the mine next to the colored blocks instead of on top of it
I believe there are two editions... one is Tropico 4, and the other is Tropico 4 gold (With DLC)
I bet I could waste a solid month of my life plaything this game, LOL! =)
thank you very helpful
Thanks Very Much!
Great guide
Cool video and game buddy
Never scripted word for word, but I do have bullet points wrote down and subjects I need to talk about (same goes for FNR)
Sorry :( it was the very last day of building work and I didnt get home until late, but now im back to normal.
I just googled that, and it looks ace, sadly it says "The game is currently not available for purchase." on steam
TR is so... AWESOME.
You don't build the mine ON the gold, you need to build it close to it, or else your miners can't mine it. It took me some time to figure out, but it's very important
Hey JJ just wondered, do you ever script your videos?
Great stuff :) hope these tips help you out dude.!
OMFG TROPICO 5 COMING IN MAY ? WOW
Let me know how you get on with it, so far im 62 hours in and still love it.
the day that this guy replies in comments :)
you never connected the road with the gold mine, i know this map and saw the road in the middle of nowhere, thats why the gold mine is all stacked up
I wish you would just do a lets play of this game
I do plan to go back and play number 1
How do you turn the buildings? I just started playing and am figuring out the controls. thanks.
thelostgirl101 use mouse wheel to rotate. also check your options for your keyboard key binds. I think you should have already figured out by now. leaving this for the benefit of other new players reading this.
Great vid, subbed :-)
