This is a song about Celestia peacing out on Twi to retire and leaving the whole kingdom to her woefully unprepared student. :P Steven wrote this song back in 2016, but as he was stepping away from fandom works at the time, he asked me to finish and release the song for him. 4 years later, I can finally make good on my promise to him X3
It really is a dream come true to get to work on something with Steven~ Having myself joined the community in 2013, Steven, A.D. was one of those musicians I and many other people really looked up to as an inspiration, so I'm glad I had the opportunity to help him out on this fun tune. I still don't really think of myself as a rapper, but I tried my best to emulate Steven's vocal style on songs like "Ballad of the Faithful Student", "The Sameling", "With My Thoughts", and of course "A Tropical Octav3". When I initially submitted this song to Ponies @ Dawn back in March the judges commented on how great Steven's vocal performance was, so I like to think I did at least a decent job in that respect if I managed to fool them XP
Hope you enjoy this fun little return of rapping FritzyBeat, don't expect him to show up too often, haha.

We originally hoped to release this song through one of the Ponies at Dawn albums, but it got rejected for sounding too simple, dated, and just generally old-school fandom... and... yeah fair enough XD Considering it was made mostly in 2016 I can see why it might not live up to the standards P@D has now. But frankly, I think I take that as a compliment :) I rather enjoy the simple fun music from the earlier days of the MLP community, when everything really felt a whole lot simpler. It's quite charming imo c:
In the end I'm kinda glad it wasn't accepted, cause had it been on the album, I would have never taken the time to draw all this cover & video art in an attempt to give this song a proper fun release~ I'm quite excited to get to share this silly little tune with you all, and I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed performing it and Steven enjoyed making it ^^

What?? That can't be true... I mean that can't be the real reason why they rejected it, right? It has got to be a reason related to quality or whatever... Because they wouldn't reject a song just because it's in the style of "old-school fandom"... At least, I hope so >.< That would be so terrible and unfair lol. I love that style a lot, and I know many others do too.

ME TOO!! (and people are bringing it back these days btw, check out DnBeanie/AC-527 who just came back into pony music with songs sounding so nostalgic and "old-school fandom", check out their latest release "Feelin' Pinkie Keen" themed around Pinkie and FULL of Pinkie vocal chops, that came out just today!!) I really love those kinds of cheesy, honest pony music filled with so much positivity and love, when musicians were just making pony music as fan music to pay tribute to the characters they love. I really appreciate music like that too, quite charming for sure. So, you're definitely right about that, and you're right to see things that way, keep it up!
btw, the MP3 file from the download link is only 192kbps... which is the same bitrate/quality as what you get from the UA-cam video, the same that you get if you rip the audio from the video using one of the many UA-cam-to-MP3 online converters available. So it's not a real download link, and it doesn't give anything new. So you might wanna change that and put a real MP3 download link, in 320kbps quality, or at least something higher than 192 ^^ Else it's really like putting no download link at all.
Yeah, Fritzy just simplified the reasoning, obviously it goes beyond that. Definitely still enjoyable to me personally :)
You are the second person to mention that Steven foresaw the end of the show XD TBH I thought it was just a common joke even in the earlier days of the fandom XP I haven't even seen much beyond season 7 so I'm kind of surprised to hear the show actually did it, lol.
And yeah, P@D did say they rejected it cause it didn't live up to their quality standards. "Simple" and "dated" were just some of the words they used to describe it =u= But eh, that's fine. They can put what they want on their albums, and this song IS pretty quirky and old-school compared to the really high quality stuff P@D accepts these days c: But like I said, I think that old-school quirkiness is part of the charm >u<

Heh. I collab with different people all the time, so the styles of the music I'm on is often changing with each collab. I understand how that would mean that not every song is going to be enjoyable for everyone XP
That said, I'm glad these songs managed to grow on you a bit too c: The same thing happens to me quite often. I'll hear a song, think little of it, but over time I find myself coming back to it, and end up falling in love with it over time, heh. I've found some of my favorite songs that way =)

@@Tariko It's a common opinion, heh. I personally love a lot of country though, it's just not the country music most people think of.
When most people think of country, they think of the Nashville crap coming out on the radio that is just pop music re-skinned for a new audience who still wants songs about parties, drinking, and sex. Sung by artists why try SOOOO hard to put a fake twang in their voice it hurts my throat just listening to it. The type of country I like is Randy Travis' "Deeper than the Holler", Lonestar's "My Front Porch Looking In", Rodney Atkins' "Watching You", Travis Tritt's "Great Day to Be Alive", Tim McGraw's "My Old Friend", etc.... Actual honest music about life, and struggles, and the little things that actually hold value in life.
I like those country songs for the same reason I like any other songs. Cause they have something valuable to say, and share it genuinely =)
(I could also name like a million more Randy Travis songs XP Forever and Ever Amen, Three Wooden Crosses, so on... I could also name like 90% of Gordon Lightfoot's discography too, though he's considered more Folk than Country, but it's close enough in my book XP).

Lol, yeah, haha. Though it's not like it was a new idea back then either. The idea of Celestia just appointing Twi as princess and then ditching her to run off to retirement on a beach somewhere was always sorta a joke that would get brought up sometimes every now and again. I haven't seen much of the show after season 7, so tbh I'm a little surprised to hear that it actually happened, lol X3
All jokes aside I can't believe they rejected you. I think what ever standards P@D/ASOS has right now is hurting the artists who is trying their best to make good songs.
I don't wanna take any shots at P@D or ASOS~ They have quality standards that have increased over the years, and it is probably a large part of the appeal of the albums for many people. Going into a P@D album, no matter what, you can always expect an incredible level of quality, and having that assurance you can give to fans of the album series can be a good thing for them.
At the very least, I know for a fact the P@D discord server is an awesome place for musicians who might not make the cut to get incredible feedback. It is a great place to improve and learn =)
Nobody is stopping artists from making whatever they want to make. Clearly here Fritzy is still able to showcase his work to an appreciative audience :)
