“Europe has not yet learned how to be multicultural. And I think we are going to be part of the throes of that transformation, which must take place. Europe is not going to be the monolithic societies that they once were in the last century. Jews are going to be at the center of that. It’s a huge transformation for Europe to make. They are now going into a multicultural mode, and Jews will be resented because of our leading role. But without that leading role, and without that transformation, Europe will not survive.” - Barbara Lerner Spectre✡, IBA-News, 2010.
I am a Black Country man. This place was one of legend, almost mythological, part the warp and weft of my history and identity. My grandparents and parents were taken there as children on summer evening coach trips to be awed by it's wonder. I, too, was taken there as a child and though I live away from the Black Country, it was still a place I would visit once in a while when returning to my homeland. Pubs are an essential, unique aspect of our cultural heritage and are under threat like no other time. The fate of The Crooked House seems to symbolise the fate of our pubs, our cultural heritage, our history and of we English ourselves. I am seldom moved much by news these days, but I actually shed a tear yesterday when I read this news.
I'm upset about this too, went there several times with my father who's no longer with us. Our history is being deliberately erased, we're being cut off from our past, denied our heritage.
@@Wessexshire Yes, the damage is already done here and in countless other places. But it may discourage this sort of behaviour in the future. If planning permission is granted in this case, then serious questions need to be asked, and background checks made of the council officials signing it off.
Unfortunately, in these scenarios, a few ‘brown envelopes’ pass through a few hands here and there and suddenly permissions are granted. They’re all corrupt.
The thought that foreigners are destroying British culture is disturbing... it demonstrates that we can't rely solely on our Government to complete the task.
That’s exactly what’s happening to our churches and they are getting away with it it’s disgraceful and this should be investigated.People of whom are not British and have no respect for our culture or traditions and laws are taking advantage and getting away with it it’s wrong and must be stopped.
Yes. Not so long ago there was the case of that old church in Longsight, Manchester where the new owners (hint: not Christians) grubbed up the graves in the churchyard and used the gravestones for hardcore.
@@peterlangbridge4628 No they won't FUCK ISLAM doesn't belong in this country kick all the pedo preying inbreeds back to their country. This is my country NOT theirs!!
It was built in 1765 it was a farmers house, then to a pub the Glynn Arms then to marstons The Crooked House it was amazing pub and the marble used to roll upwards. It was underhanded greasy palm where was the diggers hiding ready to knock down. That pub was great to visit. These low life money grabbing heathens planned this. We the people are fuming about this. We have a museum in Dudley that buys up property but they were not even approached. This was our history. There is shady underhandedness gone on for the sake of money. We the people should not rest till these people are brought to justice.
A few doors down from my flat was a car showroom running from an old 19th century building, part of it listed. When the long time owners sold up, it was taken over by gentlemen of 'South Asian origin' who continued to run it for a few months, often with some very expensive cars on the premises. A few months later they put in planning to build flats on it, this was knocked back due to listed status. A few weeks later, I was raised from my bed in the early hours of the morning by the Police who were evacuating properties surrounding it due to fire - There is an electricity substation next to it and if the fire brigade couldn't control the fire then a large explosion was likely (Fortunately the firemen were excellent and put out the fire but the place was a smouldering wreck). It was subsequently reported that the cause of the fire was a petrol bomb. Two things became very apparent afterwards. 1 - The burned out cars in the building were all older budget models. 2 - The planning application went through on the second attempt and the flats are now built, all rented out to people of ethnic origin.
That’s what’s happening so they can build flats and rent them out to put ethnic origin ones in them and councils end up paying the rent making thousands of money there’s a lot of India’s doing this all over buying property’s and turning into flats to make more money.
Ah you are in favour of guilty because you say so, no proof required. Interesting. Hopefully you will be on the receiving end of your version of justice,
A friend of mine works in the planning dept. in a city here. An immigrant bought a house, then added a second story to it without getting city approval. My friend was at the city planning meeting where they decided to make an example of him and forced him to remove the second story, at his own expense. Lol.
In my part of the country, a 500 year old pub was bought by "property developers" who didn't obtain planning permission, yet started gutting the place, looking to turn it into flats. At some point in time, the local council got wind of what was going on, and saw to it that "development" stopped. Instead of reopening as its original pub, it has unfortunately become a shop (run I suspect, by those known to the developers). This pub was absolutely iconic, and was the only building of its type left anywhere in our village. Even though I'm teetotal, it STILL upset me greatly, that a charming building such as that was put under threat (and has been unfairly altered in my opinion). It's left a very bad feeling in the area.
@@peteraston4753 I suppose you're correct. The thing is, is that I wonder if the extent of the damage was such that, that it may no longer have been safe or practical to use it for its original purpose... There was an upstairs area of the pub, which I wonder if that remained safe for people to congregate in after the damage these wonderful people caused. They may have applied for "change of use" on the grounds that the building was no longer "big enough" (purely down to their own selfish actions) to use as a pub, but instead a small shop.
This pub is just down the road from me and it has really upset a lot of people now it’s been burnt down, but I’m sure what’s left of the English community here we will not let this go by quietly until someone is held accountable
It was clearly criminality, they even left the evidence of it on the access to the pub. If the new landowners get away with this there should be absolute uproar and it would be 100% vindicated.
Don’t believe it Aldi put an application for a store in Gornal that no one wants because there is two ALDIs , large Morrisons, large sainsburys, two small sainsburys, Lidl , Two small Tesco’s and one large Asda within a two mile radius . The few businesses left in Gornal will now fail losing valuable quality stores and reduce us to Turkish barbers and charity shops . Every spare plot of land has been built on in Gornal in the last thirty years and now we will lose half of our only park . It will increase congestion in a small village and is right next to a school but it has been passed on appeal . Dudley council always looking for a brown paper envelope never fail to disappoint.
The foreigners that bought it did the deed. This is what they always do, they buy a listed building knowing they won't be allowed to knock it down, then one of them sets it on fire so it has to be torn down. They get the insurance and the land they want, they even blame it on skinheads just to make people feel sorry for them.
My family visited the crooked house only a few months ago, was an amazing pub. This is 100% corruption and greed by property developers, we have lost a fantastic bit of iconic history. Dudley council are totally inept, there needs to be a serious investigation into this.
Start by finding the bribe in dudley or staffordshire council ( it is on the boarder and cannot remember where the line is) a month sold then burnt down. Already bulldozed and ready for development. I sold my 1910 house for less money to white people over ethnics. As they admitted they were going to rip out all the period features. Such a waste.
It falls under south staffs council not Dudley tho Dudley own himley hall in south staffs and the border is the end of lower gornal village a few hundred yards from the pub …. But yes Dudley council are idiots
I'm from San Jose CA, born and raised. I can tell you that we're in the same boat. The charm and character of our small city has been almost entirely erased by transplants and foreigners that have come to our home and promoted nothing but no growth other than God awful, tasteless high rise block apartment complexes. Well, that and skyrocketing property tax that has steadily driven almost every native born individual out of their home in search of a reasonably priced cost of living. Nobody knows their neighbors anymore and that's just another step into the breakdown of what used to be a fairly cohesive community. They are taking our homes, or culture and our way of life with no sort of assimilation to speak of. Completely disregarding what makes this land desirable in the first place.
Many of our Brit and European cousins disregard our plight here in America brother. They feel as though the Latino invasion is “less than” because the Latino is usually Christian. Not realizing that replacement is replacement. Cheers from Arkansas.
@@JackTorrance333 I can tell. I figure that's what's being sold, in a sense, to the suburban masses here at home. The reason people cast a blind eye to the active invasion happening all around them. We gotta stay vigilant and stand our ground to the best of our respectable ability. Stay true to your way of life brother, don't forget that California bleeds red. Peace🤙🏻
the crooked house was a tourist attraction and a local landmark. The developers or 'vandals' will just pay the fine and build new homes for immigrants.
There was a case a few years back where a property developer knocked down a land mark pub, then got taken to court and forced to rebuild it. Hopefully the same will happen here.
I used to live in Walsall (or as my friends and I now call it; Walsallistan), which isn't that big a distance from the Crooked House. I remember my dad telling me about it a lot when I was little. I finally got to visit it just a couple of years ago, shortly before I moved away from the area to somewhere where the majority of people still speak English as their first language. Glad I at least got to visit it once before it got culturally enriched.
Hope you don't think that there is a God-given right for english to be spoken in the Walsall area. Time for the area to welcome in a new lot of foreign folk. According to Wiki, Walsall's name meant 'Valley of the Welsh' but it's a long time since a Brythonic language like Welsh was the first language there.
I used to live in Walsall too the town was becoming a total sh*thole then, now it IS a complete and utter sh*thole!. There seems to be only the 'Spoons pub left and The Red Lyon - if you want a laugh, and someone told me The Black Country Arms is good?. At one time Walsall was full of vibrant pubs - some too vibrant perhaps, hard to believe the 1990s now seems like another world.
I knew the Crooked House for many decades and it was very old, even back then. We cannot simply accept this as the new norm when our history is going up in smoke before our very eyes.
Our history is being rewritten for us.The 'left' are encouraging this as a form of reparations.Eventually all our revered historical figures will be 'smeared and/or written out and replaced by our 'new' citizens to keep them happy.
I live a few miles from this piece of unique history, I’m horrified at what’s happened if there is any fraudulent practice taken place there should be huge fines ,imprisonment and it fully restored to its original condition.
Absolutely disgusting - another slice of our heritage gone forever. I just wish the Black Country Museum had stepped in and rebuilt it, brick by brick, at their fabulous site down the road. Too late, now.
The Crooked House is only short distance from my town and was very well loved buy many local people. There is a great deal of interest in what has happened here.
I read last month that this place was shutting down, already knew this would happen. We had a Victorian school in this old town I live , after that shut it was burnt down months later and now is a housing estate full of immigrants. Very coincidental how this keeps happening up and down the country to grade listed buildings. Do the police not investigate the obvious arson, and who benefits financially from it.
It's not the police but the court system and legislation. You watch, even with evidence of sabotage at the Crooked House (the blocked access for a start) there's no court in the land that would punish the so-called landowners. The police can only act is they have evidence, however, the incident at the Crooked House should be taken out of police hands as it was so clearly malice surely police evidence isn't needed?!
Same thing happened here in Sydney where a Chinese Investor was rejected from Council to build a new Harbour front Home as there was a Heritage House next door. One week later the Heritage house was burnt to the ground.
Years ago we repelled invaders, WWII, and others come to mind, the government made it so invaders had a hard time coming here. Today invaders are welcomed by those who are supposed to be protecting our land, we even give them money, accommodation and they are not allowed to work to perhaps pay back a little of what benefits they get.
Even then, many in our 'establishment', would have happily made Britain a vassal state of the new Eurobloc across The Channel. Sound familiar? Only Churchill, aided by Atlee, stopped this from happening.
Immigrants should be allowed to work, it's a no brainer really. It will help the economy, will help them assimilate to their new life . They didn't know it but they arrived to a hostile environment. It's up to them to dispel the fears of the population they find themselves in. Trouble is the Tory Government has perpetuated a that toxic environment of hatred. On the other hand those found wanting should be remove as fast as possible.. All l ever hear coming out of UK is Immigration and the present Governments inability to get a handle on it....
It happened (funnily enough, in the Midlands) to a listed school building. It “somehow” caught fire one night, got pulled down and within months a housing development sprung up.
This is happening to every pub that closes around the midlands. I live 15 mins from the "crooked house" and had been there on many occasions the leaning was down to subsidence due to old mine workings . Telford has had lots of fires to old pubs insurance jobs for sure and the police need to start jailing people
They should not be allowed to insure any such places without some form of legal declaration it will be kept fully secure and intact as it stands. Agreed, if there's a hint of deliberate intent, the owner should be arrested on suspicion and investigated. Too many people are getting very rich at the loss of our history. Years ago, it was a lengthy prison term for being involved in crooked property redevelopment deals.
It's a standard development procedure in the UK unfortunately - first buy listed empty building on great plot. 2nd wait a year or so. 3rd burn down listed building. 4th build what you like on discount value plot.
as the old joke goes: 'Dont you think its an odd coincidence the place burned down immediately after they got insurance for it?' 'No not at all, it happens pretty much all the time'
A former nursing home in my locality suddenly burn't down after it had been put in 'special measures' by the local authority and closed down by the Care Quality Commission. The owner of this establishment , prior to its destruction by fire, was, you guessed it, from another community with South Asian links.
Just because Simple-Simon says ethnic minorities are responsible for arson of pubs doesn't make it true; vast majority of pubs are owned by white British landlords who are in debt, so in order to claim on the insurance they commit arson. If you want to evolve into a intelligent person you need to look up to intelligent people, not mentally challenged subhumans like your husband Simon Webb
What makes you think a white British person wouldn't have done the same? Torching buildings to redevelop the land has been going on for years unless you stupidly think there's people who just go around torching buildings for 'the fun of it'??
It is ,And who dumped the rubble in the laneway that should be investigated when was it dumped there and by whom and under whose orders. I,m sure there must be dash cam footage doorbell footage Eyewitnesses who could say when it was dumped?.
Happens here in Australia very frequently as well! Sometimes heritage orders are just ignored! In Brisbane, 10 years or so ago three heritage houses side by side were levelled to create a huge empty site in a built up area but the courts deemed the site be developed into a public park and gifted to the local council once they had signed of on it! The owner of that site had a very non australian surname as well!
I used to go to this pub from time to time when I lived in the area as a youth, it was a really great pub. The timeline of recent events are all too familiar however, sold to property developers and burned to the ground in short order. It was a historical landmark for the area, a piece of heritage that should have already been listed, in fact I thought it was. In that area the same thing has happened to dozens of old pubs, and as usual the police will say it's suspicious and then nothing will be done about it. In a couple of years it will be gone, replaced by a grotty block of flats, with the 'developers' making off like bandits with their ill gotten gains.
Our local landmark; Hardys Well pub Fallowfield had a huge poem by Lemn Sissay on the side. It was listed as a community asset but then bought by Saudi developer Eamar. Recent fire caused demolition in the early hours with immediate effect.
If you had a REAL brain instead of a fart for brain, you would know that your husband Simon Webb is talking out of his arse-hole again. Facts are: 1) Since the blanket smoking ban lots of pubs have closed. 2) Since the economy went pear-shaped even more pubs have closed. 3) More pubs closed due to the lockdowns of 2020. 4) More pubs closed down since the steep rise in energy prices. 5) All of the above reasons resulted in pub landlords accumulating debt, therefore in order to escape the mountains of debt, the only people most likely to burn down pubs are landlords sold that they can claim on the insurance; not ethnic minorities as mentally challenged subhuman Simon Webb believes.
The directors of the pub landowner are English looking and sounding Carly and Adam Taylor, but senile Simon and his dopey disciples thought cos they're flying to Corfu they must be foreign.
This is one of those rare cases where the council/ English heritage should insist the pub be rebuilt brick by brick, absolutely disgusting behaviour by those involved, clearly deliberate.
I'd been to the "Crooked House"(as it was named)on many occasions over the years...when I heard it had been burned down by the new owners, I smelt a rat immediately!
You have to admire the gall of this,it’s not just a big standard old boozer but was a famous old landmark that brought people into the area no doubt,I imagine local folk are pretty outraged right now but I’m sure the local constabulary will do a fine job investigating this and once they know the probable ethnicity of those involved it will all be quietly brushed under the carpet and in a few years people will scratch their heads trying to think what once stood on the site of that nice block of flats before.
Beat me to it. If the property can't be listed, then 'list' the land. Bulldoze anything that gets built there. In fact I would make that the normal procedure for any similar event.
Yes, if Stazi Starmer wasn't batting for the other side then a law could be brought in to say that when such suspicious fires occurred, any build erected on the site MUST replicate the one previously destroyed. NO planning applications should be permitted for 50 years after the completion of the rebuild. As it is of course, nothing remotely like that is ever going to happen in what was once GREAT Britain.
The owners are Ate Farms Ltd and the directors are: Carly Taylor, Adam Taylor, David Brailsford and Stuart Haynes, all of British nationality. This information can be found on Companies House listings.
This has happened in my town her across the pond. A builder tore a historic home down. The ten thousand dollar fine was worth it to build what he wanted. A 400 year old oak tree was razed that residents had saved and oopsie was destroyed by an earth mover.
My career was dealing with property and l worked in East London for over 30 years. I can attest that the group Simon is talking about does absolutely nothing by the book, and l found them to be prolific mortgage fraudsters. How else have they become the biggest group of slum landlords and care home owners in the country. In general l found them to be pathological liars. As for arson they would set their own mothers alight if there was money to be made.
I remember 'The Crooked House' well. Whenever I visited it was a busy, vibrant curiosity and an absolute 'must' if you were on a pub crawl in the area. This so sad. Any planning permission should be delayed for decades.
Any planning permission must be utterly dismissed and the owner or owners charged (along with their partners in crime), then jailed for at least five years, heavily fined and permanently banned from owning more than one property at a time.
There was a chap in Scotland called Reo Stakis. Anyone of a certain vintage will recall him and his hotel/restaurant empire. His properties regularly combusted and insurance money duly collected, but one in particular didn't quite work out for him. The Grosvenor Hotel at the junction of Byres Road and Great Western Road, Glasgow would seem, to all intents, to have a classic frontage but it's not - it's glass reinforced concrete. The hotel was burned down in 1978 but on this occasion the insurers decided it had to be rebuilt to look as if nothing had happened. (It's a really nice hotel, if anyone is interested.) I think that was one of the last times a Stakis place went up, having said that we in Scotland are not immune to the sort of thing that just happened to that pub.
Pubs are closing all over Tyneside. Rapide Decline in the demographic who use pubs, and rapid increase in the demographic who don't use pubs is to blame.
One day all pubs will close down ( costs, government hatred), along with the high St, probably all become luxury flats, houses, As most of us use the Internet for shopping, credit cards, ( I still prefer to use shops, pubs,)
Also the cost of a decent pint is putting people off. And the vibrant culture that kept those pubs a part of the community is being replaced by millenials and generation Z, all mirthless wannabe celebs who are offended by everything.
i live in leighton buzzard and in our town we have had 4 pub fires over the last 20 years all linked to one person now deceased .on one occasion the individual did not get paid out by the insurance company as he neglected to tell them building work was going on .how he got away with 3 cases of obvious arson is beyond me .one failure was a newly thatched listed pub catching alight which was seen by late night passers by who alerted the fire brigade.if this fire had not been seen before it took hold another really nice building would have been lost for ever
Coincidence?......my a*se! They should refuse planning permission on these sites where suspicious activity is suspected, thus leaving the perpetrators with a useless, and consequently worthless plot of land.
@@michealhand1001 a grade 2 listed Georgian house near me was recently purchased and renovated. All the original features were ripped out and replaced with modern plastic.....it looks like a Disneyland pastiche of what a period home should look like. English Heritage are on the case, but the owners claimed that all the original bits were missing when they bought it (an outright lie!) because I saw them demolishing it. They will almost certainly get away with it scott free, since the owner is a wealthy doctor
A metaphor for our nation. As a born and bred black country lad, I saw the writing on the wall decades ago and emigrated 10 years ago. This is just another confirmation that I made the right move. Still, it brings a tear to the eye.
This is an all too common scenario which has gone on over many years. The local authority should insist on it being rebuilt. The pub that I grew up in, the new part was 1772, went up in smoke in 2009. The local authority insisted that it was restored and that it remained as a public house, thus preventing any change of use. The restoration has been completed, but it has not re-opened again as a pub, but cannot be used for any other business purpose.
are you saying the developer is of ISLAMIC persuasion? I think he's just a money grabbing imbecile like all developers. They have no interest in history that's why all the dictators in history destroyed everything they disagreed with. That's why you will never know the full history of mankind, only what they want you to know.
and horrid flats going up on every piece of green you can see- even by the canal is entirely horrid little box houses. i shouldn't like to live so close to the water and i'll bet the houses don't last longer than tissue paper
An over 300 year old thatched roof pub in Northolt Middlesex went up in flames and totally distroyed a few years back, and guess who had just bought it.
A local pub was purchased a few years ago by a locally well known prosperous family of foreign origin. The pub closed after a year or two, there have been 2 fires there since 2020. The fire brigade managed to put the fires out and though heavily damaged, the pub is still standing. There was a planning application for the pub, which was refused. Must be another coincidence!
I remember this pup when I was working an a land reclamation in Dudley in the 1970s , I have to say this is a sad end to this pup which when you first entered the place made myself feel that I had already drunk enough.
Not 20 miles away from the Crooked house, a listed building, a large malting in Sandwell, was purchased by an Asian developer he applied for planning to develop the area which was refused as it’s a listed building. A short time later a fire damaged a part of the malting, the fire service managed to save more than half of it. In view of the substantial damage the owner reapplied for permission to develop, Sandwell council refused permission yet again and the building remains more than 10 years later.
We have sold out everything, our history, our cities, our homes, nothing seems to be ours anymore. Your earlier video showed how much we've changed since 1993, we didn't need what happened from 48-93, just sad that this was allowed to happen.
I live I this area, and have visited The Crooked House on many occasions. It'd been a popular place for family meals and functions. As well as a tourist magnet, or as much as anything can be in the Black Country. The local people are devastated by this entire chain of events over the last few days. Its transparent. We're used to it happening to our pubs and various other buildings, but this place? Was beloved. Of enormous local significance with a history stretching back 300 years. When it was a farmhouse.
They never get caught. The local council might well be in on it. The council likely has more of a vested interest in new homes on old sites rather than listed buildings.. and they may have recieved a kickback of some kind.
So sorry for the loss of this pub Simon as an Irish man who lived and worked in England in the eighties and have good friends from England I'm really sorry for what is happening to your country the same influx is happening here in Ireland and people are sleeping into disaster Keep up the good work that you are doing Best wishes My friend 🙏
Glad you posted about this Simon. What's the betting that it's a brown envelope job? It was on unstable ground anyway, so new homes might not be an option for redevelopment?
Hi Simon ..Near where I used to live there was a 900 year old Oak Tree great to sit under on a summer day ..Well sadly developers brought the land And Dispute a No Felling Order the Tree was cut down by (mistake) of course this meant the Development company could build 4 more houses ..they were so apologetic it was sickening ...
I find it heartbreaking every time a pub disappears (gets demolished, closes-down or gets converted to eg an Indian restaurant) as these places have been, for the longest time, the centre or hub of many a local community and central to English / British culture … the Left and immigrants know this and put no value in such establishments and no value in an ‘alien’ culture that doesn’t fit their end game … very sad. Was hoping that Boris (when he was in power) would help the pub trade thrive … but ‘no’ … and Sunak probably couldn’t give a monkeys. You would have thought it easy to make lots of money selling pints to eager and thirsty people, but they levy so much tax and duty (why?) every pub struggles until it closes. It’s as if even the government disapproves of pub culture, and views it on a par with smoking (something to slowly stamp out) 😢
The government despises pubs because people go there to relax, enjoy themselves and talk. The fear of what we may talk about is what they are afraid of. The bastards are paranoid at the thought of the plebs expressing their thoughts to others.
We have to understand that we are at war. These people (and their Establishment enablers) want us - literally - dead and all signs of our culture and way of life obliterated or changed beyond recognition.
You thought Bojo was on your side? You are foolish. Anyone who knows the man said he is a serial liar who has no loyalty to anyone but himself. Think what you like of Corbyn but anyone who has ever known him will say he's about as close to a saint as a human can get.
This has happened a lot in Belfast too, sometimes not a fire but buildings due to be listed suddenly demolished days before being listed. There are so many coincidences here. 🙄
This happens a lot not just foreign speculators. A beautiful old school near me (circa 1780) was sold by its Irish Catholic Presentation Order owners to a private school in Ascot (rhymes with bitchellers, links to drinky poo industry) in the UK at a cut rate on the proviso that the land remained in educational use. The private school's first obstacle to coin it was the listed buildings. Curiously those buildings somehow got damaged to the extent that demolition became a necessity out of safety. Then half the land got sold to developers to build middle class homes. Then the private school sold the remaining land to a free school, so only half the land remained in educational use. Thus the original owner was shafted on promises made, and those who wanted the old historic buildings and fountains etc protected were shafted by the woopsie daisie accidental collapses of the floors inside the beautiful Hogwart style buildings. Like so much else these days new modern school and homes that occupy the site now look soulless.
The happened to two hotels near to each other in Swindon. One of them had a listed building on it, was closed down & not very long after burnt to the ground. I believe it now has a posh set of detached houses on the plot.
I want Dover's new arrivals to be housed in the second homes of Britain's wealthiest elite. Many houses worth tens of £millions stand empty in Mayfair. Make it compulsory for home-owners to provide accommodation for new arrivals. Pay the owners a basic rent. Maybe start with the second homes of celebrities, to set a good example. How many second or third homes are owned by Tony Blair and Gary Lineker?
You and your forebears lived in an unfair society long before the present Tory immigration debacle. Englands elitist system starts with the Monarchy , the Aristocracy, the landed gentry...the plebs are born to serve the rich. Moaning about Celebrities, Blair and Lineker will not make the slightest difference...UK has always been an unfair society, always will be.!
They should actually live with them. Let them have the benefit of what they desire for the rest of us. They would change their policies and views overnight. They should always receive the brunt of their decisions.
How about first we start putting them in every work-shy benefits claimants spare room, if we still need more room we can put them on their couches… The taxpayer is already paying for these houses, we might as well use them to house the maximum amount of people, before we go out and rent more places…
Almost twenty years ago the owners of a local country pub near me sold it to a London-based property development company who then wanted to demolish it and "develop" the site. The pub was popular, particularly so with the older generation at lunchtimes, because it served good food at affordable prices. It also sold excellent beer. Although planning permission was at first refused on the grounds that Grade II status had been granted, this was strangely overturned and the pub subsequently demolished. Two five-bedroom houses now stand on the site - and the local community is that much the poorer for it.
The leopard, a pub in Stoke 600 years old burnt to the ground. It's owner was a diverse gentleman with a not so diverse property portfolio, he specialises in turning properties in to flats
@@jamesjameson4566they will make it seem they have loads of dough, but it turns out they rinse the benefits system, cheap out on most things and have dodgy community banks
The property developer should be forced to rebuild it exactly as it was, using whatever original materials can be salvaged. This was done somewhere in the UK, but off the top of my head I can't remember where!
@@ostrichman Never said it was immigrants! Its greedy property developers. I believe Tesco did the same thing to the listed mill building on the Castlereagh road. Burnt it down and built a modern supermarket in its place.
I'll add a similar story to the long list below. Beautiful, church, originally built as part of a Victorian Mental Hospital, had been in a state of disrepair for some time, after being bought, (possibly while the new owners discovered that it had protected status and they could not do to it what they had hoped). A 'random' fire left about a quarter of the roof damaged, but the structure within easy repair. It was actually just left, I suspect in the hope that it would fall down by itself. Being a solid build, it did not oblige. So neither willing (nor alas compelled) to fix it, the owner gave up and sold it on. Barely two months after the sale to the new owner, the church promptly went up in flames, with a more devastating effect. The roof and windows were lost, but the walls remained. The 'developers' petitioned to knock it down as 'unsafe' however momentum grew for them to 'rebuild it. This left a stalemate where they could do nothing with the site, however it was eventually overturned, ... now, surprise, surprise....... and collection of modern houses.
@@charliegirl3056 happens all the time. Developer buys land with an old property on it, or old trees etc. Probably at a cut price due to what is on that land i.e. limitations for development. Developer pinky promises to look after that property if that property has historical significance or is listed or due to be listed or those trees etc. Within a few weeks the building mysteriously burns down or the floors collapse due to contractor 'error' or something gets so badly damaged the building has to come down. Or the trees are all cut down etc. Bingo. Clear land for development. Fire has the added advantage of insurance payment helps pay for new development.
Yesterday Simon posted a video of himself trespassing on and potentially damaging a Welsh castle; today he voices concern for Britain's historical architecture! Amusing.
This is prevalent in the middle east. A nice, easy way to thwart the Planning Department. A friend in England had exactly the same thing happen a few yards away from where she lived. She happened to work for a property developer and had been watching the Planning Dept's website for some time. Numerous applications to build houses on the plot had been turned down (it contained a large, very neglected house at the time) as access could only be gained using part of a school drive. Within days of it being bought by someone with 'no interest in our heritage', it burned down. Now it sits with houses on and access is through the school drive - strange, eh?
One can hope that as interest rates rise and property values fall the financial incentives to do this might reduce but I think it’s a forlorn one. Some form of land taxation might also impact the desirability to buy and hold land but I think the biggest factor would simply be to reduce demand and that basically means reversing the current trend of immigration to emigration. A serious economic downturn for a long period with associated reductions in benefits for immigrants etc would probably lead people to look elsewhere.
Yep, this happens especially to older pubs (Eltham SE London). Grade listed. Also the pub is a local amenity which means planning is refused because of this. So if its listed and local amenity it has a double whammy for refusal of planning. These two objections literally go up in smoke. Also remember, pubs and non trading pubs are commercial buildings valued on barrelage. Making them cheap and vulnerable to arson. "DRINKERS have spoken of their sadness after a "landmark boozer" was badly damaged in a fire. Residents say the blaze at The Welcome Inn, Well Hall Road, Eltham, marks the passing of an "old-fashioned community pub". Firefighters worked through the night to tackle the blaze, which took hold at around 9.30pm on June 1. And fire crews were still at the scene the following morning, trying to control the flow of smoke which continued to pour from the building. The pub, at the junction of Westmount Road, was formerly owned by the Beefeater group but had been closed for around six months. It was rumoured to be a target for housing developers. But those who used to enjoy a pint in The Welcome Inn still harboured hopes it would once again open as a pub. John Wright, 58, of Well Hall Road, said: "I used to drink in there. It was a real old fashioned community pub. "They seem to be a dying breed now. It's a real shame." Janet Humphries, of Dunblane Road, Eltham, said: "It is a real landmark boozer. "Everyone around here knows where The Welcome Inn is." Around 30 firefighters dealt with the fire, which gutted the first floor and roof of the mock-Tudor building. The fire crews were still at the scene 15 hours later, trying to make the building safe. Patrick Collins, who raised the alarm, said: "The fire was raging. You could see the flames from about a mile away." The 54-year-old added: "If it was vandals who did this they have done a pretty good job." Police and fire safety officers are now both investigating the cause of the fire."
Very interesting video. The (very obvious) destruction of the United Kingdom by 'new enriching citizens' from distant lands (looking for free meal tickets) is normally understood to be on a purely cultural, not physical, level. Perhaps the first warning signs came in places like East Ham (east London) when delightful and very 'English' Victorian/Edwardian pubs that should have been listed were trashed and demolished, often to be replaced by crudely ostentatious 'temples' that looked like tacky Taj Mahal replicas from a Disney-style theme park somewhere on the Indian Subcontinent, and completely wrecking the original 'British' character of the area; but then, that obviously wouldn't be of any concern to our new 'compatriots'. However, it's a bit of an eye-opener to discover that they're also continuing to make their mark on what was once supposed to be our landscape by using methods not unlike those employed by the Luftwaffe; I still have childhood memories of an east London with the gutted remains of gracious Victorian town house, courtesy of a Third Reich that obviously had no more respect for our existing native environment than these new 'citizens' have.
In our town in the south we had an very old building lying empty for a few years, then all of a sudden it burn down and witnesses said there was a strong chemical smell whilst it burnt. Just waiting for the planning application for flats
I have absolutely no doubt that this is the future for all our culture.
It's kinda symbolic of what's happened already to our culture.✌️

Instead of reopening as its original pub, it has unfortunately become a shop (run I suspect, by those known to the developers).

(It's a really nice hotel, if anyone is interested.)
I think that was one of the last times a Stakis place went up, having said that we in Scotland are not immune to the sort of thing that just happened to that pub.
Same happening in Reading.
i live in leighton buzzard and in our town we have had 4 pub fires over the last 20 years all linked to one person now deceased .on one occasion the individual did not get paid out by the insurance company as he neglected to tell them building work was going on .how he got away with 3 cases of obvious arson is beyond me .one failure was a newly thatched listed pub catching alight which was seen by late night passers by who alerted the fire brigade.if this fire had not been seen before it took hold another really nice building would have been lost for ever
Coincidence?......my a*se! They should refuse planning permission on these sites where suspicious activity is suspected, thus leaving the perpetrators with a useless, and consequently worthless plot of land.
I heard of an Art Deco Garage in Dublin was demolished by a property developer
And he was made rebuild back as it was. This should happen to this effer
Were did you go that is worth emigrating to?
This is an all too common scenario which has gone on over many years. The local authority should insist on it being rebuilt.
The pub that I grew up in, the new part was 1772, went up in smoke in 2009. The local authority insisted that it was restored and that it remained as a public house, thus preventing any change of use. The restoration has been completed, but it has not re-opened again as a pub, but cannot be used for any other business purpose.
That will change when a non white buys it, you can depend on that. They rule.

An over 300 year old thatched roof pub in Northolt Middlesex went up in flames and totally distroyed a few years back, and guess who had just bought it.
A lovely Fullers pub at one time,Milkman from Coop dairy I know, used it lunchtimes back in the day.
How could they go in and demolish it when there was an investigation into a suspicious fire?
The convenience of the events described is certainly suspicious.
Funny how quickly the shell of the building has been demolished

Not 20 miles away from the Crooked house, a listed building, a large malting in Sandwell, was purchased by an Asian developer he applied for planning to develop the area which was refused as it’s a listed building. A short time later a fire damaged a part of the malting, the fire service managed to save more than half of it. In view of the substantial damage the owner reapplied for permission to develop, Sandwell council refused permission yet again and the building remains more than 10 years later.

The local people are devastated by this entire chain of events over the last few days. Its transparent.
We're used to it happening to our pubs and various other buildings, but this place? Was beloved. Of enormous local significance with a history stretching back 300 years. When it was a farmhouse.
If they are ever caught out, will they be forced to replace the pub, as it was, with all repairs? Or do they just profit off their evil?
they will just have to pay a fine which they will do.
They never get caught. The local council might well be in on it. The council likely has more of a vested interest in new homes on old sites rather than listed buildings.. and they may have recieved a kickback of some kind.

It’s as if even the government disapproves of pub culture, and views it on a par with smoking (something to slowly stamp out) 😢
None of these 'takeaways or restaurants' are even busy! I'm not sure how they keep going, it's all very suspect.

And foreigners
You and your forebears lived in an unfair society long before the present Tory immigration debacle.

A very common occurance here in Birmingham by a certain religious community . 😠🏴

I very much doubt that it would have had buildings cover insurance. Soundsas if they were trying to forestall any bid to get listed status.
@jamestuck6764 I would add that the burning of one's own unoccupied dwelling does not constitute common law arson.

It's a real shame."
Janet Humphries, of Dunblane Road, Eltham, said: "It is a real landmark boozer.
"Everyone around here knows where The Welcome Inn is."
Around 30 firefighters dealt with the fire, which gutted the first floor and roof of the mock-Tudor building.
The fire crews were still at the scene 15 hours later, trying to make the building safe.
Patrick Collins, who raised the alarm, said: "The fire was raging. You could see the flames from about a mile away."
The 54-year-old added: "If it was vandals who did this they have done a pretty good job."
Police and fire safety officers are now both investigating the cause of the fire."
All this arson could be proved by checking Cctv and purchases of petrol by people with containers.
