Last three months I’ve been taking only 4 clubs to the range - 9 iron, my 50, 56, and 60 Vokeys. Every shot under 70 yards, most 10 to 25 yds. Not nearly as much fun as bombing drives and hybrids but I need less work there. I then hit the putting green for 30 minutes. My goal every round - no double bogeys. Rarely happens. Last 3 rounds (54 holes) - 1 double bogey, zero 3 putts, numerous up and downs for par, zero duffed or scalded chips. Preaching to the choir, but short game is where it’s at and watching you and how you manage the course has really helped me. Thanks bro!
started golf 3 months ago and have been playing famously bad (124 bad)... yesterday I tried to stay positive over every shot and went 10 over through 9 holes... crazy to think I have the ability to shoot a 92 but I've been well over the hundreds. golf really is between the ears
100% agree. I started last year. Before I start my swing, I take a deep breath, and then think about nothing. Once you learn the fundamentals, its all about establishing muscle memory through practice....IMO
Felt like I was so close with breaking 80 yesterday, I shot a 38 in the front 9, and then my mentality went to the garbage because we ended up getting slowed down at the turn and I felt rushed for no reason. Shot 46 (+11) on the back. I always come back to your videos and I'm going back out in a bit to try to break 80 for the first time! Thank you Adam for the awesome content.
Your mindset is perfect for your skill level. You play smart golf and have emphasized putting and the short game and you're smart enough to understand that a bogey is a perfectly acceptable score on a tough hole or following a poor shot. If I could offer any advice at all it would be this: Your shot tendency off the tee is to pull/draw/hook the ball left (I'm very similar and play to a 3 hdcp). You could benefit from teeing the ball up on the far left side of the tee box and aiming down the right side of most holes. I notice that you tend to just automatically tee the ball up in the middle of the teeing area on every hole. Give yourself a little more margin for error by using the full width of the tee box and tee the ball up on the left side. You are allowed to stand outside the box as long as the ball is between the markers.
What a cleanup! So tough to not check out after a front like that (with only 3 bad holes really which I find even harder to deal with because it feels less like a trend). Well done to use the new 9 new me mentality, something I try if my front is brutal but can’t say it always works out haha
One thing that has really helped me is playing men’s club and events that use my handicap. Even thought it’s very little actually on the line it makes silly mistakes feel even more silly and has helped me prioritize the end result over my ego.
My childhood course, I haven't seen it in forever! They haven't changed a thing in 20 years 😅 You may struggle with long shots, but your short game is dam good. Easier said then done to break 80.
I think the GIR is what helps you keep your score down. And you don't get down if you make a bad shot or score on a hole!! Way to hang in there and shoot under 80!!
for a guy who almost always makes the smart shot. I am really surprised you tried to muscle that ball out of the buried 10 inch grass. A simple pitch back into play was what I expected from you to be honest. I guess that is why I said "almost always" lmao. joking aside, another great video as usual!
Nice video, Adam! I'm looking to buy some tweaks but didn't see the code once. I don't expect to win the contest, just looking to save some cash - let me know!
It's pretty simple math; most courses are par 72, so getting under 80 means being +7 or better. The more pars the better, and going +2 on a single hole makes totaling +7 or better a challenge. I think you've said in the past that you should never follow a bad shot with a dumb one (if you didn't you should start).
Great video man! What is your handicap? Im new at golf and you have help me a, just to give a perspektive of how it is when non professional players play. Keep up the good work 👊👊

I cannot agree with this man more I’ve only been golfing for two years and the most important things I believe he preaches - don’t take it too Seriously you’re not going to the PGA and play to control or limit your damage. I was an over 100 golfer year one. As bad as 130. My second year in Golf, I averaged 90 by the end of the year and was able to card a 79. Mostly this was me realizing that just because I’m 250 yards from the green doesn’t mean I need to hit my Threewood. And if I go into the water off my tee shot calm down and make sure you make a solid second shot Be safe off the tee and make sure your second shot is just good contact don’t worry too much about where it lands. Just make sure you have a good solid swing that’s what’s help me.
Do you find your score is more consistent walking vs riding? I see you walk more thus a larger data set but just curious. To me walking feels better as I'm working at my own pace and not someone elses.
I'm not enough of a swing guru to comment with any authority. Coach says it's unreasonably flat and that it's a miracle that I get it on plane lol@@thegame2427
Not true. Double chipping, not getting off the tee consistently, missing short putts, and hitting shots fat/thin will kill any score. Even though Adam doesn’t have a conventionally great swing he knows how to make contact consistently and his short game and putting is actually really good. Being able to execute the right strategy takes good enough ball striking and short game where you’re keeping it in play consistently.

"So why do so many ams struggle to break their scoring barriers on layouts like these?" Your answer was literally the entire answer. So on Parkland courses like this yield massive scores because you're playing pinball in the trees.
