- Spectacular film clips, behind-the-scenes footage and rare interviews document the life of one of television's most recognizable faces.
For just two years, she played Morticia Addams, the mom of the ghoulish TV family based on cartoonist Charles Adams' creations. But she excelled on Broadway, won an Oscar® nomination and continually defied the expectations of casting directors and fans alike.
Carolyn Jones was named after the movie star Carole Lombard, and followed in her footsteps. After graduating high school, she attended the famous Pasadena Playhouse before making her screen debut opposite William Holden in The Turning Point. A series of comic roles with Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra and Micky Rooney left her hungering for more substantial parts, and at the same time that she was re-appraising her career, her decade-long marriage to Aaron Spelling was foundering. A year after their divorce, she landed the role of Morticia on The Addams Family, and soon she was a pop phenomena.
Filled with rare clips, outtakes and the recollections of friends and family, this BIOGRAPHY® follows Carolyn from her Texas childhood to her late-'70s comeback on Broadway, which was tragically cut short by cancer.
She was such a fabulous actress. She seemed like such a wonderful, loving, humble kind of woman, the sort of woman Hollywood is sadly devoid of. I wish I could find some of the interviews that she did.
Absolutely perfect
She was gorgeous - loved her as Morticia and John Astin was so handsome - it was a really cute show
Carolyn Jones was so funny in The Addams family.
She was absolutely perfect as Morticia
Gomez & Morticia, I Loved Their
Romance. One Of A Kind.❤ God Bless.
That was my dream
Her eyes are amazing.
Absolutely beautiful eyes
We will always remember her as "Morticia Addams."
Mon Cher
there are NO actresses like Carolyn Jones today: Beautiful, elegant, intelligent, charming, sexy, funny, witty, sweet, warm, soft and had a sense of style and class. Also describes classic actresses like Dianne Carroll, Marilyn Monroe, Stefanie Powers, Barbara Eden, Elizabeth Montgomery, Barbara Hale, Phylicia Rashad, Angela Lansbury, Lena Horne, Dorothy Dandridge, Myrna Loy, Susan Clark, Faye Dunaway, Nichele Nichols, Jasmine Guy, Mary Tyler Moore, Julie Andrews and Betty White. Classy beauties all the way
Barbara Eden as well.
@Jerry Smith, ah yes! Can't leave Barbara out.
Her eyes could light a room.
I know right?
I always liked the film Career Carolyn Jones was in where she played a show business agent.
Classy & talented lady.
Beautiful lady, who's star never diminishing. Rest in peace.
April 28th, 1930-August 3rd, 1983
She's a knockout, but I think I like Yyvone Decarlo too. Lilly and Morticia, the 2 best tv moms!
Yvonne De Carlo died from congestive heart failure on January 8th, 2007
It's like she was born to play the part. The show did not have that long a run though.
Elvis supposedly said that he slept with all his female Co-stars except for two. I've always assumed that Mary Tyler Moore was one and I'll bet Carolyn Jones was the other because they were both married!
Gosh I love her! She's so elegant! -3 :')
Wicked little sense of humour
She's soooo gorgeous as Morticia!
Uh huh
The Addams Family was canceled way too soon. The Munsters I get, because it was cheesy, but The Addams Family was really clever, and still holds up well
Classic...
Jones made it as a "kooky" albeit complex character actress. She clamored to get away from that stereotype to embrace roles as "leading lady" in film. She fell backwards into the role of a kooky and complex leading lady as Morticia on TV. What delicious irony! What a life! Lol!
@Addams1977 If you could find interviews that would be great! Thanks!
rockn the bangs
The original manic pixie dream girl?
As soon as it said to die for and showed her face I smiled a most beautiful demonic ghoulish smile
When she portrayed Morticia Addams, smiles were rare
@@lisamcdonald1014 Morticia was constantly smiling what’re you talking about
My mother liked her a lot, and my mother was picky!
Carolyn Jones looked way better with long black hair....it brought out her looks.....
I did too, dark hair as opposed to blonde
Great
I think she looks better as a brunette
Yep
6:16 In any marriage, if the husband is more successful than the wife, I would think that would strengthen the r'ship rather than weaken it; after all, women tend to marry up (in certain Internet circles that's called hypergamy).
Collins Crapo, Carolyn obviously wasn't a typical woman. She was obviously very ambitious and goal-oriented.
she has Betty Davis eyes
no one like "morticia" carolyn jones
She was every bit as devilishly beautiful as Morticia
@luv4lucyx15 it's "The Addams Family Goes to School" :)
