Thank you! 55 and this is working. My words sound unnatural but hopefully it will become more natural and i will learn. They tried to get me into speech therapy when i was younger and my mom protested, " there's nothing wrong with your S's, you say them exactly like I do"... :).
OMG, it was challenging but worth it. I was born almost completely deaf due to an inner ear defect. They were able to restore my hearing to almost 100% through multiple surgeries. Then I spent years in speech therapy while we moved throughout the country. I’m an Army brat. Anyway I picked up a subtle southern & a thick Jersey accent very young. So when we moved back west I had speech therapy to get rid of the accents. Well it had my little self confused & left with silabant S’s. I do voice acting now but can’t afford speech therapy. This video helped me to know exactly what I was doing wrong. Thank you so much! This will help me in my VA career immensely! 💜

Just under an hour of doing the exercises in the exact way you described has me pronouncing a clear, crisp “S” sound after decades of shame and embarrassment. All this time I gave myself the excuse that it was caused by my crooked top front teeth and overbite (where my top row of teeth extends beyond my lower row of bottom teeth. Train wreck of teeth if I’m being quite honest, but I’m deciding not to put it as an excuse anymore. The habit is still ingrained in me, but I’ll continue every day until the new habit is formed. Your video is worth more than piles of gold. It literally saves so much angst. I can finally say my own first and last names. *_THANK YOU!!!_*
your incredible oh my god 😭😭😭 ive been insecure ab my lips all my life and you made it go away in those practice exercises! ofc i still need to practice more so it’ll come out naturally, but this is the closest ive ever been to a proper s sound! thank you so so much!!
Thank you very much for making these videos available to the public. I am a missionary wife and mom living in Africa, and my five-year-old little girl who has a lisp has learned to make the s sound correctly by watching your videos. My two-year-old also has a lisp, so when she is a bit older and can understand how to hold her tongue and teeth, I will be using your excellent videos again with her. Thank you for helping this homeschooling mom with something I had no clue how to teach or fix!
Omg for all my life I have been doing my “s” with my tongue touching the bottom of my top teeth. That one correction alone to make the “s” by putting your tongue against your top teeth solved a majority of my lisp with “s”
I had dental surgery about a month ago and have had a terrible lisp since. Doing all these exercises multiple times has almost eliminated it. Thank you for sharing this!
Hi. I just tried this because I just got veneers and Invisalign braces. This messed up my bite to where my teeth are clacking together. Mainly on my S's. I was trying to figure out where to place my tongue to prevent that. I was making myself crazy. These exercises are a Godsend for me. My tongue knows just where to go now to prevent my front teeth from hitting. Thank you for uploading this!
I just got full dental implants. The results changed my life but the lisp not so much! Until this video!! I had no idea where to begin thank you so much ☺️ ❤
I'm 54. I recently listened to a recording of my own voice and discovered I have a lisp! Tried to fix it on my own but it never went away. Frustrated I came to you tube for a solution. You did not disappoint! Let's see if this does the trick! Thank you!!
In elementary school I took speech therapy during school because we had a therap teacher and when I went into middle we didn’t have a speech therapy teacher so my mom notice i was slipping a lot on my words and now I got you, ty❤
I'm 25 and I only recently discovered that I have been making the S sound incorrectly my whole life. My partner randomly commented on how my S sounds, and she assumed I made it a certain way because I'm grew up speaking French as well as English, so she just put it down to that. When she brought it up I was super confused and like "what do you mean..? how do _you_ make a n S sound?" and she explained how the tongue is centred behind the top teeth, and I actually didn't believe her at first. I had very very messed up teeth my entire childhood, and I had braces for about 6 years between age 10 and 16. When I was a kid, my canine teeth and the teeth immediately either side of my top two middle teeth grew out forwards rather than down, my guess is that this meant my mouth 'chamber' wasn't airtight as there were large gaps either side of my top two teeth, making it effectively impossible to make an S sound the normal way (it would just sound like THHHHH like I had a lisp, even though I don't have a lisp), so I guess the kid me just adapted and tried to replicate the S sound however I could, and this ended up being by touching my tongue kind of flat up against my top two teeth (not the tip, just kind of flat right before the tip so the tip is actually in contact with my teeth), but because my messed up teeth weren't even symmetrical (one side the teeth grew out more forwards than the other side, so a bigger air gap on that side) so I actually have my tongue at an angle, off to one side, completely blocking the gap on that side, and leaving the gap wide open on the other side. With my tongue and mouth in this position, I just allow a controlled air flow to pass through that little gap, and it makes a pretty damn convincing S sound. So if I don't have a lisp, and I can replicate a convincing enough S sound to get by, why am I watching this video? Because when I make my weird adaptation of an S sound, my mouth visibly changes shape... The side which air flows to create the S, my top lip kind of raises at an angle which sort of deforms my mouth while I make the sound, and I hate it. It's so, so noticeable to me whenever I see myself on camera or a video of myself talking or whatever, it's just weird and I don't like it... Also, although my actual S sound is pretty accurate, it's still not very crisp/clear, it kind of ever so slightly sounds lispy, and I think that's down to too much air flowing through this gap... Oh yeah I should specify actually as I mentioned I had bad teeth growing up and braces for years, my teeth are better now but I do still have pretty prominent fangs/canines, so there is still a little gap where there presumably shouldn't be, meaning that after my braces treatment was over, I was still able to make my adapted S sound, i.e. I never really had to change how I make the sound, I was able to just continue doing it the way I always had without ever really questioning it, especially given I didn't actually know that the way _I_ made the S sound wasn't actually the way everyone else did until only a couple months ago. I just really hope that the actual layout/anatomy of my mouth won't prevent me from re-learning how to make the S sound correctly, given that I do still have a little gap where my canines/fangs are... But god, just trying to follow along with the video... IF I actually can correct it, I can feel that it's going to be extremely hard for me to learn and implement it into my speech. Just following along with the whole "start with a T sound and keep going to make the S sound" feels impossible to me, I can't even begin to figure out what I'm supposed to do with air control... When I make a T sound my tongue touches behind my top teeth, so no air can flow, but if I try go from T to S like you're doing, I have to allow air to flow, but in the video you say "as long as it doesn't come through your teeth, and doesn't come out the sides of your teeth, then you'll make a perfect S sound" but that doesn't make sense to me because where is the air supposed to go if I have to block it from escaping in every direction? The closest thing I can do is to start in the T position, and allow a _tiny_ bit of air to escape between my tongue and the part behind my top teeth where the tongue was touching for me to make the T sound, so my tongue effectively is lifted off of the part behind my teeth because I'm basically blowing air and by letting it escape in that way, it creates a little air gap right there. But even when I do this it kind of sounds like I have a lisp, it comes out more like a THHHHH than SSSSSS. Also I find it extremely difficult to control the airflow and to get it just right so that it sounds as close to SSSS as possible, and I feel like there's no way I will EVER be able to do that in actual normal speech where S sounds are all over the place and only last a split second, as opposed to trying to make a long continuous sound... I don't know... I kind of really hope you see this because I feel like my case is pretty unique, seems like most comments are from people who have lisps but my issue seems unique in that it comes from the actual way that my teeth grew and changed over time which has left me with a habit built up over 25 years and is probably so deeply embedded in my muscle memory that I may not ever be able to 'rewrite the code' in my mind to rectify it and start making 1) a clearer S sound, and 2) an S sound which doesn't cause my face to contort and make me look stupid... I'd be so curious to hear your take on my case, I wonder if you've ever helped people in similar situations to me...
This was a long message and seemed important to you so I thought I should help. You misunderstood - it's not the *air* doesn't doesn't go though you teeth, it's your tongue. See 1:12 in the video. The air definitely goes through the teeth. Try to make a hard T sound slowly like in Tea or Tap ( Hard T not the soft T like etre in French) You'll notice your tongue pressed hard against your teeth, then briefly released, then air forced, to make the hard T sound. For the S sound keep your tongue in the same position but just relax it so it "hovers" behind your teeth and start releasing air continuously. Hope it helps. May the One God guide you.
Thank you! I didn't realise I had a lisp until I was about 12 and got teased for it. Since then, I've been self-conscious and rush 's' sounds so it's not obvious. This video has made me realise that I never knew how to make that sound!
Unbelievable. My mind is blown. I was born with a cleft palate and started with speech therapy when I was 3 years old until I was a freshman in Highschool. They could never get me to say a crisp "s", "z", or silent "c" sound all that time. After watching your video literally one and a half times, it finally clicked! I always kept my tongue in the middle of my mouth when I'd pronounce my "s" sounds, knowing they sounded awful but didn't know what I was doing wrong. I was told where to put my tongue, but never to just move the air through my front teeth. I recorded myself while doing your exercises and I was stunned at how good my "s" sounds sounded! All it was, was just a soft "t" sound. Now that I know how to do this, I will still watch this daily for a while and follow along while recording myself. My muscle memory will be hard to break, but I will keep trying every single day. Thank YOU SO MUCH!! For 43 years I have been doing it wrong! You have no idea how much this will change my life.

I will try this session with him today and let you know about the results😊
@@kapu3000mi thank you so much for your feedback! Great job being so observant and loving of your sweet son. That is such a common sound substitution. My recommendation to you for that age is to only ever provide positive reinforcement for a correct pronunciation, but avoid directly pointing out when it is incorrect. Always make a big deal about the victories and, if ever you hear the F sound, just let it slide and try not to draw attention to it. That is an age where he is still developing his speech sound system and there is a lot of time for improvement. So you are doing the right thing by being so supportive and I would just encourage you to be positive and affirming with any small victories! Thank you so much for your comment. My wife and I tried another Speech Therapist just before finding you and we agree that you are the person we want to study under so thank you 🫵 for your kindness in helping people such as us online.🙏 😇
25 and been pronouncing it wrong all my life.. you're a life savior :)
I really respect people like you who make videos that actually help people, you have no Idea how this video will change my life thank you!
Hii am from Kerala. Am suffering from my childhood for this word 'S' . Thank u so much for your wonderful class. It's help me to recover from this problem. So many people kidding me when I speak.😔 It's very helpful 😊❤️ thank you ❤️
im still a kid and i seriously don’t like my lisp, it always made me stand out, im on day 2 of this video, i can already see a difference. thank you so much!
I’m 16, I’ve had a lisp my whole life and it’s been a massive insecurity of mine because I felt like I sounded like a 5 year old lol. This had honestly helped me so much I feel like I speak so much clearer now.
I always got picked on by family and friends and I had enough of it, so I tried out this video.
Thank you for teaching me about my s!
Tbh its just teasing but i know what u mean though i have or had speech probs myself it doesnt bother me now though im passed it not everybody speaks perfume just own it and be confident
Ok so i generally dont comment but i have been insecure about my lisp my whole life this made a great progress thanks !!
I dunno how to express my gratitude to you..you're a real life saver....I'm 21 and I have lisp...it really affected my confidence .I was not even confident to talk to others..I was always conscious about the way I speak .i really wanted to get rid of this..I was not evn confident enough to go for therapy..I always watch videos on UA-cam about the methods to cure lisp and none of them worked.last week I came across your video..and it has helped me a lot.I struggle to say s but I have improved a lot.thank you so much ..words can't describe how happy confident and hopeful I am now.i owe you a huge debt of gratitude 😭😭❤️❤️❤️
Did this for a week and my s actually improved a lot. Thanks and good luck whoever is trying this too.
Hello, I'm 12 years old and I had trouble saying S correctly. I am glad that I found this, you saved my life.
REAALLLL ME TOO SO GRATEFUL 😭
Relate
your incredible oh my god 😭😭😭 ive been insecure ab my lips all my life and you made it go away in those practice exercises! ofc i still need to practice more so it’ll come out naturally, but this is the closest ive ever been to a proper s sound! thank you so so much!!
Awwww yayyy!!! Great job!!!
Thank you! I've had an issue with my S for many years it's prevented me from public speaking but this has truly helped
Now you can say sound "s"without lisp?
I'm taking a small break. This is really hard and I feel foolish. thank you for this challenge. your an angel.
Wow awesome job!! Sending love to you and your sweet family!
Omg for all my life I have been doing my “s” with my tongue touching the bottom of my top teeth. That one correction alone to make the “s” by putting your tongue against your top teeth solved a majority of my lisp with “s”
WOORRRDDD MANNNN I THOUGHT IT WAS A SERIOUS LISP BUT I JUST WASNT PLACING IT RIGHT
That's how Russians say S sound 😁
I had dental surgery about a month ago and have had a terrible lisp since. Doing all these exercises multiple times has almost eliminated it. Thank you for sharing this!
Hi. I just tried this because I just got veneers and Invisalign braces. This messed up my bite to where my teeth are clacking together. Mainly on my S's. I was trying to figure out where to place my tongue to prevent that. I was making myself crazy. These exercises are a Godsend for me. My tongue knows just where to go now to prevent my front teeth from hitting. Thank you for uploading this!
41 and learning to talk again with dentures. You're a genius! Thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤❤❤
I just got full dental implants. The results changed my life but the lisp not so much! Until this video!! I had no idea where to begin thank you so much ☺️ ❤
I just got lingual braces. Your videos have been very helpful
Try to make a hard T sound slowly like in Tea or Tap ( Hard T not the soft T like etre in French)
You'll notice your tongue pressed hard against your teeth, then briefly released, then air forced, to make the hard T sound.
For the S sound keep your tongue in the same position but just relax it so it "hovers" behind your teeth and start releasing air continuously.
Hope it helps. May the One God guide you.
I'm a professional singer and I was never able to understand how to get my s right until this video. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Thank you! I didn't realise I had a lisp until I was about 12 and got teased for it. Since then, I've been self-conscious and rush 's' sounds so it's not obvious.
This video has made me realise that I never knew how to make that sound!
i can notice a difference already, it's not perfect but it's more clear on more words now, thank you and I will keep doing these exercises every day.
You have got to be kidding me!!!!! You have brought tears to my eyes!! Thank you so much for letting me know how much this helped!!! And good for YOU for being so diligent and putting in the work. You are obviously being very careful and working so hard to make progress like that. Thank you so much again for sharing this great news!!! Sending you lots of love! Keep up the great work!!!!!
@@ellenfrankspeechtherapy I have been working at it every single day for an hour or more. Muscle memory is improving immensely already. It's going very well. I kid you not, Siri doesn't recognize me on my phone now! I have to reprogram my voice so that she does! 😂 Thank you again!!!!!
I started speech therapy in elementary school. It took a long time. Fuzzy wuzzy was a bear and sister Sally sold seashells by the sea shore. I am so happy I went through it.
@Ellen Frank is probably one of the top 5 most signicant things that has happened to me in my life and I am 53. Thank you Ellen u have vastly improved my quality of life. God bless you
finished!!
this is incredible, so so helpful. I had a lot of speech therapy as a child for a cleft palate, and never quite cracked the S. I now have a good sense of where to place my tongue for /s/. Thank you
I'm 17, and had oral surgery one week ago. The surgeon's had to remove four teeth and now I can't say s, t or z properly. I knew I had to learn my abcs again so I came to your video and I must say this video has helped me and my s's TREMENDOUSLY. Thank you!!
Oh gosh, I have braces, grew up with a lisp and had a tongue cradle put in my mouth to train my tongue to fix its placement. I do however ALSO have to get four molar teeth pulled😭now I’m scared that I’m gonna start lisping again
i really want to thank you so much💘
this is the first time I saw this video and it was so helpful to me , I couldn't pronounce the letter "S" correctly, and the thing that made me watch this video is because Because I am ashamed to speak in front of a large group of people .. or raise my hand and speak in my class
So I'll practice this before school starts💟.!
I have been sometimes embarrassed when people always pronounce the right way to say the S sound but now that I watched this video for the first time I have been a lot better! Thank you!
Thank you so much! I helped my 7 year old grandson tonight. He really needed help and this was great! He was struggling with S’s in every way you showed us how to speak.
Oh thank you for letting me know! That’s great to hear!
This was very helpful for my three year old nephew. It was quite the challenge for him and a little frustrating but he sssstuck to it and in the end felt very accomplished. Thank you for sharing your expertise.
When saying the s sound I would use the right side of my tinge and the air would come out of my right side instead of of straight. This helps a lot thx.
My daughter and I finished all three!!! Thank you so much!! 😊
I did this with my daughter! I’m glad I found a video we could work on at home.
Omg , Thank You so much. I used to get bullied alot in school for not being able to say the "s" word but things have changed after this therapy video.
Thank you very much.
Thanks Mam 🤍
Am law student and speaking fluently is the key skill of an advocate, I always found it difficult to pronounce S ; but today ( due to this session) I improved a lot and I promise that I shall practice hard to pronounce S clearly. I will edit the comment when , pronouncing S properly will be my natural habit.
07.04.23
Edit : Am way better than before, I pronounce almost 70% correct sound of S
WHY bro?
Oh my gosh this is great news! Congratulations on such awesome progress!
I recently got a lisp after a dental procedure. This helped me with my s sound greatly. Thanks!
Aww I’m so glad to hear that!!
Ugh that happened to me. Why does that happen?
Same here. I think when they do fillings and stretch your mouth open it misaligned your jaw. I’ve had 3 root canals and it caused a clicking jaw so I know my dentist popped it. Ever since then I kind of have a lisp now I’m here learning how to say the letter S at 51 years old. Ridiculous!
Idk why it just came to me today to search and watch this vid, but blessed to see this after living for 21 yrs having a difficulty with my lisp ❤️tysm
Thank y’all for commenting allowing me to practice even more. 🙌
People have made fun of my slight lisp over the years... I couldn't find someone who could help me with speech therapy and this video was the first time I heard myself say the 's' properly. I can still slightly hear my lisp as I'm recording my voice and listening to it, but it's getting much better and I'm determined to fix it. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much for making this video, It’s really helping me with my S sound. I plan to come back and watch it everyday for about a week to practice. Great job!
Oh I am so glad to hear this has helped! Please don’t hesitate to ask for tips or advice in the future. Good for you for doing the hard work and practicing. You will get it!!! Sending all of my love your way! ❤️
@@ellenfrankspeechtherapy Ma'am when I speak "S" but it's pronounced "F" For example I want speak "Sun" but pronounced "Fun". How I fix it? Please help me.
My son did the practice and did great! Thank you for this!!!
Got through and my confidence has increased! I will certainly be back for many more. Thank you.
I'm finding the word Something a good one to practice because I can really feel the change in my tongue position, from the correct S sound at the beginning, to the TH sound in the middle.
The TH sound is my usual way of saying S sounds, so to feel the difference between them is pretty illuminating
I am a non-native English speaker the S and R sounds represent a challenge for me. Thank you for this video! 😅
I finished today's exercise. I need to come back and do this again.
Definitely you are the best pronunciation teacher I've ever seen during my entire life. Thanks for this value lessons.
hey, how did you do it? I keep trying to do these lessons but my tongue always keeps going behind my down teeth, and i just can't keep it behind my top ones. Am i doing something wrong i don't get it.
My kiddo found this video really helpful! Thank you!
My six year old daughter and I just did this and enjoyed it. Thank you!
Thanks so much it helps me a lot, I don't understand how to thanks you mam you like as a god for me you got me new life because, I was not able to speak s sound words but after watching your video I Feel so motivated.😊❤🙏
Amazing. I just did this with my 5 year old. You're awesome
Oh I’m so glad it could help! ❤️
My 7yo got it done and practiced so well! Thanks!
Mam amazing i solve problem of a small 8 year old boy
Dil se respect mam ❤❤❤
Ellen - if its more natural for us to place our tongue behind the bottom teeth, is that acceptable as long as our tongue does not create an interdental lisp while speaking? I ask because it seems that other speech therapists say the tongue can be placed in either the top OR the bottom.
Very nice video ma'am...... Don't quit making videos I like the way you teach and something unique and beautiful.....
Thanks I am now able to pronounce s rightly.
FINISHEDDD IT HELPED SOMEHOW I WILL DO THIS EVERYFAY. I SWEAR
Thank you so so or should I say tho tho much, I am an adult but I have never had such a successful exercise. Bless you! You make it so easy
Thank you! This is just a major learning experience for me!
In my whole life i was been bullied for say s sound, that seeessss i hated even myself for that...
Thanx mam finally someone open up on it ❤
Im a 12 year old and I have a cleft which causes me to not be able to say S very well so Im trying this therapy which on my first time doing it seems like a great practice!
I have an open bite and im considering giving up, because my tongue slips under my front teeth and it never seems to work for me. I have been at it for 3 days straight and its still the same. please help if you have any tips for my condition 🙏🏽 thank you for your work.
I have trouble with the back of my tongue going up instead of only my tip but I’m happy that I now have an idea on where to place my tongue. I can’t wait til I’ll see improvements!
I always knew I had a little lisp. I think is not too obvious but lately has been taking my confidence away. Thank you so much for helping usssssss🥰
My tongue feels weird now hahaha
Thank you! My son is 4.5 years old now and he completely mistakes “s” with “f”. He can’t pronounce “s” so he says every word with an “s” in them replaced by an “f”. I think he realizes it now and it started to bother him as well, not to mention that it is very hard to understand him many times.
I appreciate your support and am sending you lots of love and light!
@ thank you🙏🥰
2nd day in a row and my S sound sounds are sooo much better! Thank you so much!
This has to be the best video to get rid of your lisp, thank you very much!
OMG!!!
I can't thank you enough
After mounths of struggles to pronounce a clear s sound I ve became desperate but thanks to you I finally made it .
You're a hero !
Suddenly after a mild concussion I could say my “s” correctly or maybe it was the new high end hearing aides or am I just tired and lazy. This was a helpful video to relearn how to say S. Omg the things to learn at 61.
Hi! I'm from Ukraine, and l'm a speech therapist. I'm interesting, how to pronounce English sounds. It's imaging, that we learn children that the tonger should go down.
I like your chanel. Thanks.
Awesome video my lil sis had a hard pronouncing some words and this video helped her God bless
You are amazing to explain it. I never knew about it before. Tq.
It really helped! My s's sound better now! And I now have an American accent for some words! From Master R, age 11, UK.
Finally, seems like I am getting over this!
My daughter says her /s/ sound is getting better! 😊 thank you for the video! 😊
I am learning accent and it helps me great to overcome my s sound problem.
Yes I did with my kids as one of my 4 year old is not pronouncing s sound properly. Thanks a lot ... It will help. I'll do this daily with her.
Doing these exercises with my almost 6yo boy who had tongue and lip tie revisions as a baby. These videos help make it fun for him. (That and the promise of a Lego set once he masters it lol) thank you!
Haha this is awesome. Great job!!
