  • The fawn is less than 20 minutes old at the beginning of the video. In the hour or so after birth the mother must clean the fawn and the fawn must learn to stand, walk, and suckle. Once these tasks are complete, the fawn will hide in the grass for long periods of time while its mother grazes, until its mother retrieves it. This hiding behavior will persist for up to two months. The hour after birth is very risky for the fawn because until it begins hiding it is very conspicuous and vulnerable to predators.
This mother and fawn suffer several interferences by other gazelle - a hazard of giving birth within a herd.
