Day 6 - Leg 3 - The Ocean Race - Back to Racing Mode

- Team Malizia is currently sailing very close to the ice limit. This is a limit enforced by the race and one that can be moved during the race. The limit is obtained by looking at satellite 🛰 images and ascertaining where the ice is drifting to. The idea is to limit the boats sailing too close to potential icebergs as even a very small iceberg would damage the boat. Incidentally this can make the race longer or shorter. Due to the curvature of the Earth, the closer the boats sail to the Antarctic the shorter the race is. Climate change is also playing an interesting role here, the warmer temperatures occurring earlier is meaning that the ice is breaking off sooner and then actually drifting further north. For our race this only means a longer race course and carrying more food but the implications for rising sea levels and rising air temperatures is catastrophic!

Durch die Berichterstattung von Antoine bekommt man einen so tiefen Einblick von dieser wunderbaren Crew. Man hat den Eindruck als würde man alle persönlich kennen. Jeder Einzelne ist so irgendwie so nahbar, einfach nur super. Und Rosalin ist einfach der Sonnenschein, der immer für Freude sorgt. Sehr unterhaltsam und immer gut drauf. Boris supervising and responsible for safety of the boat and his crew, a handyman too. Will's and Rosie's heroic climbing to do all the repairs, Nico kept on sailing the boat, also climbed to repair the sail and Antoine made it possible that we could follow the immense efforts. What a great team!! Thank you folks. Go Malizia!

Rosalin and Will are my new heroes, and Boris is the skipper we would all want in the Southern Ocean. With that constant high-frequency noise, I think you should all be paying attention to ear protection - if you ears are ringing when it stops you are doing some harm to your hearing.
Small wonder that Rosalin is feeling hungry after that Herculean task yesterday.

Great work on the at-sea repairs! Amazing effort! - I noticed the team all wear a norwegian jumper at times, is there a story behind them? Seems very non-performance wear compared to the rest of the gear 😅

What actually broke with the block that caused the sheet to tear into the mast? Are there any detailed pictures of the broken block?
I believe the halyard lock pulled out of the mast, not a broken block
Actually the hook broke!!! We are still investigating everythign but as soon as we know we will do a report for you guys to seee!

Are there any plans for a permanent fix (or better) fix for the mast tear once the team gets to port? Any plans to replace all old running rigging? (preventative maintenance?)
The repair should actually be stronger than before. But Clement our composite expert and our designers will for sure be reviewing this and gonig through it.

Weiß jemand, wo man die Positionen der Boote mitverfolgen kann?
Das Oceanrace hat eine eigene Website.Dort findest du den Tracker. Geschwindigkeit der Boote etc. Gibt es im Appstore auch als App. Ich habe auf dem Smartphone und kann jederzeit nachschauen. Update jede Stunde. Viel Spaß damit.
