I found that the best thing to do with the side buttons is to take a knife and break them off, so they don't work at all. That worked for me. Logitech refuses to provide the old drivers for my version of OS X, so I had no choice, if I wanted to use this mouse, as the side button always got accidentally pressed by large Cro-Magnon thumb.
You're very welcome bro. For me flux is a must for good and neat result. Otherwise you will probably damage the switches pad and burn the PCB, because tin not melted easily without flux. :D
