Unfortunately all these DF0/1 switches are limited to knocking out the internal drive when making the external DF0. Now, if someone could come up with a device that properly switches the internal drive to DF1, that’d be awesome.
All these years I just assumed the drive switches swapped the drive. In my 32 years of owning an Amiga I have never used one before yesterday. I learn something new every day!
There's a trick to swapping drives and keeping your internal drive available; power on the Amiga the with drives unswapped, then flip the drive toggle switch before booting up anything. That works with a physical switch, but I don't know how you could do that with this switchless one.
Yeah, I think pretty much all of these DF1 as DF0 type devices disable the internal drive when you swap the external to be DF0. Even ones with physical switches do it (that I have used). Does it keep the drive swap selection after powering the Amiga off and back on? Or does it default back to internal drive as DF0?
I don't think it's bad that it disables the internal drive, I think that [always] has been fully intentional. After all you can't just turn off the internal drive like you would an external. This allows you to do that. Elaboration; my setup has the gotek at DF0 and the floppy at DF1, it's really useful to be able to boot from the floppy, but after that point it does not make it possible to do anything not already possible with the gotek at df0. But if I want to run something [from floppy] that is touchy about external drives being turned on (on stock A500 configuration) with my floppy on the outside - this covers it. If you run a mixed drive setup it's not very important which drive is which, so one combo would be enough? ACA500plus for bootselect :)
I was thinking that most of the physical switches do that - literally swap DF0 and DF1. Am I wrong in thinking that? Honestly on all my years owning an Amiga I have never had the need to swap drives
Yes just another of a growing number of switches that disable the internal drive. Someday perhaps a true drive swapper will appear but I fear it will require some internal mods. Still I love your reviews thanks Doug.
Wow... You have not seen many of my videos have you. I personalize almost all the gadgets and doo-dads that I work with. I won't apologize that my style is not up to your standards. Nor will I change.

Oh cool! That is good to know!
Nice review Doug 👍🏻 This was advertised over on EAB. Oh..Dibs on Shoulder cam 😂 Patent Pending.😊
I was just not fast enough to register "Shoulder Cam" - darn it!
Elbow Cam! Heheh. Enjoyable video and a neat thing! I’ll be getting my A500 backup now that my 2500 is, well, yeah.
Thanks Q! The A500 really is something special. So many expansions created for it over the years!

Powering down reverts it to normal DF0: on the floppy from what I have seen. Good to know this is a universal way that they work.
@@10MARC Does it still do the same after just a reset?
Great review, as always
Thanks my friend!

It's certainly not the end of the world. I was just surprised by it.
Very cool video my friend. Another great option to supe up our Amigas!
Yep. It works well with my external floppy emulator for sure! It also would be handy for those with broken internal drives.
Edu, please make more Ultimate Floppy Emulators. :)
I agree! I use mine on all my Amiga's all the time! The ability to use a GoTek on the external bus so easily is fantastic.
Nice one, Doug. It's a shame it doesn't swap those drive...I mean what it does is fine, but having both drives be active would have been quite nice.

@@10MARC I have a physical df0 switch and it does disable the inbuilt floppy aswell. So my guess it's just a thing that some of them do.
Your voice had a sinking feeling when you discovered DF1: was missing.
I was kind of surprised, but I guess almost all the drive swappers act like that. Bummer
True. The one I had in my A1K that did the same. I have since removed it to make room for other upgrades. My Gotek now lives happily as DF1:
😀

You may be right. I heard about on new one that actually swaps them. I would order one... But I don't really need one!
The CIA chip is not odd or even, they are identical; the slots they go in are designated odd and even.
Yup. And this device goes into the Even CIA.
@@10MARC No, the device goes into the socket designated Even
"I think it might actually be about 10 minutes today" yea right lol :D
Well... 14 1/2 minutes is sure a lot closer than my average of like 36 minutes! 😉

"This little honey right here" what are you on. It's a bloody circuit board..this is seriously creepy
