    Will you describe the covers you have on the hives when you take them to the almonds? No telescoping cover or migratory cover? Just a solid inner cover?

    Fun fact the bears don't go after the honey they go after the bee larva but in some rare cases they try for honey

      Took the words right out of my mind! It was hard to take seriously when children' songs were being played.. :) Still a cool process :)

    the part of California I live in has almond farms i always wondered where the bees came from and I'm thinking of raising my own bees I was wondering how honey bees would do

    • @hagensteele4447
      @hagensteele4447 9 років тому +1

      Well, that all depends on you, really, Zane.
      The problem with beekeeping in areas with a lot of monoculture farming, like your almond groves, is that after the initial bloom, there is little left for the bees to forage on, which means they stand a good chance of starving, and dieing. Monoculture farmers pretty much eradicate everything other than what they want to grow, so there isn't left for hungry bee colonies.
      IF you can find an area that provides enough year round forage for your bees, then you should be fine, but if your area doesn't provide that forage, you will have to supplement their feed with sugar or honey.
      Regardless, just remember that life is hard for a bee, and there's about a 30% attrition rate every year for various reasons, so if you want a bee hive, better get 3 to stand a better chance of having one actually survive.
      Best of luck, regardless.

    I saw a honey bee and a bumble bee on the same flower yesterday . Then I got stung by a yellow Jacket .....the little shit !!!!

    • @agentfungus9742
      @agentfungus9742 9 років тому +1

      +Tom Adams : Yellow jackets are not native to the US, neither are honey bees. Yellow jackets are ill tempered SOBs compared to bees. Bees are gentle and so cool to watch.

    • @tomadams5582
      @tomadams5582 9 років тому +2

      Agent Fungus Lol . I have never been stung by a bee . I have been stung only by wasps and hornets . THEY SUCK !!!!!!! Natural selection screwed up !!!!!!

    • @agentfungus9742
      @agentfungus9742 9 років тому +1

      Tom Adams : Indeed. I've had paper wasps and mud daubers trying for years to nest in my garage. The paper wasps can get irritable if they are disturbed. A jet of Raid convinces them to nest somewhere else. The mud daubers are peaceful, but I still prefer not to have them set up any major camps in my garage. Yellow jackets can get to be bad in late summer. Cannot leave any food out at a BBQ. Sometimes they even land on the food on our plates when we're eating it. They haven't been bad this year, thankfully. No problemo at all, as usual, with bees.

      This guy in Florida found a 10 ft nest of Yellow Jackets . He was stung 45 times through his bee suit . He claimed there were millions of them attacking him .

    Why dont the Almond people in California have their own bee hive?

    • @degen83
      @degen83 10 років тому +2

      Almonds only blossom once a year, if the Almond people in Cali had their own beehives they would die of starvation after the Almond blossom ended since that is the only thing growing for miles and miles.
      Bees need food year round to survive.

      degen83 if they stop monoculture then it wouldn't have been the problem. but money always speaks and selfish human beings win.

    • @beebob1279
      @beebob1279 7 років тому +1

      dic, I get your statement. But, monoculture is the best way to produce enough food for the masses.
