Hey folks, I know this is a really long video, it's acually the longest video I've ever released, but most of my videos for now on will be over one hour long....I do not like editing multi part videos for one trip, so if its longer than you prefer, I apologize and suggest you just watch it in several manageable parts. I'm currently editing an 80 mile michigan backpacking trip, and then after that one will be the grandaddy of them all for 2024, a 351 mile thru-hike of the Pinhoti Trail over a 15 day period in the Alabama and Georgia mountains...I can't wait to share these with you all! Let me know how you feel about the longer format of videos, thanks and Merry Christmas everyone!
New subscriber here! What city about did your stop and end in? I've been wanting to do a 3 day kayaking and hammock camping trip, so this is pretty rad.
@jasonwish- I enjoy them all. I'm halfway through this one and it's been great. Gets me through the work day and winter until it's time to have my own adventures. Appreciate the content, keep it up and I like that you've made the videos longer.
We actually live on a branch off the pere Marquette River, there were some areas you showed that we haven't tried yet so thank you for all the info :) we are so blessed to be able to do day trips just about anytime, but def weekdays are better for the peace you were hoping for. We have days when we never see anyone :) thanks again for a great video! Pat and Christine K.
Yes, I agree, You are very blessed to be near a beautiful river like that in the state of Michigan. I’ve told my wife many times I would love to own a piece of property along one of Michigan’s rivers, especially the little Manistee. Looking forward to exploring many more in the future. Thanks so much for watching and commenting, I really appreciate it and Merry Christmas!
@@chasingodministriesinc.2835 Thanks. Yes, we did the Au Sable about 4 or 5 years ago. I did a four part series on that river...definitely one of my favorites other than all the ponds.
What a beautiful water system and a great location to finish too. I'll give the butternut (winter squash) a try next time I'm camping. Hopefully The Colonel can make your next trip!
Love the videos. If too long, just watch the full video in pieces. I just started a backpacking channel largely because of yours, Sintax77 and Frozen. 💪🏻
Hi Jason love the longer videos. Can't wait for the new ones and miss Wishwell farms. Love the fact you show what farming is all about (a way of life not a job). God bless and Merry Christmas. You are always in our prayers.
Ludington is my home, born and raised. Been kayaking on that river for years. From Custer to scottvilles Henry's landing. And trust me, I've drank more than 4 beers at a time during our trips.. lol great video
LOL, I thought that was so funny when I read that...I'm actually suprised that they put that on the sign of a wild and scenic river...at least they recognize that it's happening and allow it. Beautiful place to grow up and live!
16 September through 20 September of this year I kayak/camped the Ausable River from Grayling to Lake Huron. Which was inspired from your trip with the Colonel. Thank you for sharing your adventures.
@@mikeemmons4062 yes it was, fortunately I was able to be there on a weekday as well and it was much quieter. and it didn’t help that it was salmon season ha ha
Looks like a great trip! That was a mighty nice camp spot on night 2. I am surprised i have never ran into you on the Mad, since i live right here in Marysville.
It sure was, I would take a spot like that anyday of the week! The Mad is a great river for Ohio...I just wish it had some designated campsites other than the liveries.
I was just wondering the other day if you’d be posting anytime soon! What a great adventure. Always enjoy your hiking and kayaking videos, regardless of length. I figure if it gets too long, watch it at 1.25 speed or over several days. Hope the holidays are good for you and yours!
I think it can be a great trip if you plan your stops a bit better than I did. Supposed to stay in the campgrounds in wild and scenic designated areas, but there are numerous campgrounds along the river to make that possible if better planned...my trip was a bit impromptu
Great video! Not trying to rain on your parade but I believe there is no camping within 1/4 of a mile along the P.M. corridor except for designated campgrounds because it’s a wild and scenic river.
Thanks! Yes, I believe you are correct. I went into this trip with no planning, it was a last minute decision, so obviously that is my fault. I was planning to stay at campgrounds each night but it never lined up with my daily schedule.
Great looking trip. I’ll watch it in “episodes”. Can’t wait for the Pinhoti trip! I hope y’all have a Merry Christmas brother! Your old hiking buddy, “Papaw” 👍🏼🙏🏼
That "tanker" you saw at the end was the S.S. Badger , a car ferry that travels from Ludington to Manitowac , Wisconsin. It takes about 4 hours to cross the lake and it can carry 180 vehicles , over 600 passengers and has a crew of about 50.
Late comment. How does that Sound kayak track on the open lake? Any side winds pushing it around? It looks fairly good from watching your video. It is on my list for a starter multi purpose kayak. Thx.
I actually prefer long videos that I can watch in parts. Short videos can sometimes play in strange orders and have more commercials between the start and stop of every one. Do what ever makes it easier on you to continue making more vids. Thanks. A Thermacell must not have worked for you. My success with it might have just been luck. I plan on putting myself in a mosquito haven to test it further before I suggest it again. Great idea on the frisbee plate. I'm definitely a function over form guy so I'll be using this. Also I'm looking to get a bigger frying pan like yours. You seem to have cooked a lot in yours. Can I ask the brand and a brief opinion on it? Thanks again.
glad to hear that you liked the longer ones, appreciate the feedback! My thermacell was just out of fuel, it turned on in my bag and ran dry...I talked about it on camera but ended up cutting that part out. I plan to test it out again for sure. The frying pan is just some cheapo Ozark Trail 9" from walmart...needs a wider bottom, mine is shaped too much like a wok and doesn't have enough bottom surface area. Try looking at Fire Maple, MSR, Sea to Summit, GSR and Jet Boil, ect, there are tons out there.
To be honest with you I’ve loved every one of them. If you want good camping I think the pine and big Manistee would be best but the little manistee was pretty darn nice too. The Pete Marquette would be better if you went outside of the salmon run and utilized the campground options along the way. Can’t wait to get on the pigeon and the Platte next year.
First let me say I enjoyed the video, but, I see this a lot on UA-cam in regards to the Pere Marquette and Pine river National wild and scenic sections. You cannot camp on either river unless at a designated site. Please research your camping trips before you go. I enjoy your channel but I would hate for people to get the wrong idea on what they can and cannot do. These are extremely popular rivers, hence the special designation and rules.
Yes. I was planning to stay at campgrounds each night but it never worked out for where I was at near the end of each day. If I would have started in the morning and not the afternoon everything would have worked out…and deciding to go to this river the day prior didn’t help. All the rivers I choose from here on out will be only where dispersed camping is legal since that’s what I prefer.
I did a solo run the same section of the River in September of 2017. A lot has changed since then. It just so happens that my son and I were kayaking the Big Manistee the same time you were on the PM. Our run was 9-13/9-16 we started at Mesick M37 and ended at Lake Michigan on Monday. Next year maybe we all can coordinate and paddle together. Anyhow another great paddle adventure you have shared with us and we always look forward to your videos. ✌🏼🇺🇸🛶
Hahaha, just a football game...hey, I love your state for kayaking, RVing and backpacking, no need to rub it in, lol. My wife and I are even considering a retirement property up there somewhere, but we will always be Buckeye fans 😉
