In addition to some added skid plates, the FX4 comes with "offroad" tires, some "upgraded" shocks, no airdam for better clearance, and newer models have Terrain management (Selectable drive modes for different trans, traction control, and engine profiles) and Trail control (offroad cruise control). It also has an e-locker in the rear. The Tremor is almost identical in every way except it will have a bit larger tire, and a factory leveling/lift kit (slightly different front/rear springs).
I like that you treat the dogs as if they have a brain and some common sense. It's great that you include them in the adventure. They obviously enjoy the hell out of it.

I heard he got a winch sponsor but not sure Regardless I think he realized work smarter not harder Yanking em out puts a lot more wear and tear on his vehicles and isn’t as safe, not that it’s unsafe but there is a safer alternative The winch on the other hand does all the grunt work the vehicle is just a counterweight

Long time listener, first time caller. The FX4 package on a Ford includes the step rails, aluminum alloy wheels, A/T tires, skid plates and locking rear diff.
I thought the same thing. Had to rewind thinking I’d miss heard. I run 38 and 36 in my moderately small car. But, that’s more because the low profile tires kept pinching the sidewall on potholes.
That's the power of beadlocks... I air down to 12-15 psi off road and run about 25-30 psi on the highway on my Wrangler TJ. I can't go much lower off road without beadlocks, but I'm not doing extreme rock crawling either.
I run about 16-18 on my Cherokee on 37’s on the highway, and like 10-12 off road. I also have beads so I can do down to essentially nothing if I want to (and I have when rock crawling)
The Fx4 is a package of the off road suspension, Terrain management system, including a incline meter, trail control system, including a cruse control for slow wheeling, snow setting, dirt setting, etc., e-locker for the rear, some cardboard skid plates, some metal ones, off-road screen in cluster.
Came from Iowa to Hurricane a couple of weeks ago and stopped by for a shirt. The dogs were in a fenced in area and found out "Peanut" is a guard dog as well! Did a little growling. . . .
the FX4 package adds improved shocks, skid plates, and other notable features like a terrain management system. Additionally, the FX4 option will add visual upgrades through exterior graphics.
Yup, always a pleasure to watch ur teamwork! And if the owner was anxious about you taking the car down the trail, why did he go there in the first place? If I would get my RAV4 stuck anywhere, I'd gladly hand over the keyfob to Matt or any of his company. Cheers!

Invest in a good set of hybrid terrain tires (more aggressive than all terrains, but still gives you decent wet road traction, which you don't get with even the best mud terrains) and a set of beadlocks so you can air down to single digits and you might not even get stuck. I feel like the majority of his videos are just pulling out 4x4s on street tires that nobody thought to air down.

Great shot as the Morvar drive train as it rolled over camera. Surprised not to see cover over flywheel as all the dirt and mud you get in is hard on starter. Thanks for getting him out safely
In that year model the fx package was mostly appearance. It gave you blacked out headlights and badges and body color trim with little to no chrome. The fx4 was 4wd with rear locker and “upgraded” suspension and the fx2 was of course 2wd and sat slightly lower with a sporty look (well as sporty as a giant f150 can look) and if I’m not mistaken the fx2 came with a different exhaust.
The extremely high consequences of this scenario and area make what looks like a simple drive out into a potential super dangerous predicament. We have a bunch of trees that can catch us in situations like this but when there's no trees and a long fall, the game totally changes. Great job getting this one and the others out!
I once got my '65 Mustang in a similar predicament and I had no way to call for help. But - it was a dirt road and I had an Army entrenching tool in my trunk. I dug a shallow trench for the up-hill wheels to follow and slowly worked my way back onto the mountain road. Phew!!
“To me ❤they all look stuck.” Love this channel. Visited Utah and the Mighty Five National Parks last month. Stayed in Hurricane four days. Seeing the Morvair and Banana in the parking lot was the trip highlight😁
Great video. What I don't understand is how anyone can watch this on TV and think they know better than you do how to get something out or what direction to go. You have driving skills that I am amazed at and a knowledge of that area that is amazing. But then, I'm from North Central Oklahoma where there is nothing like what you guys go through.
Matt and team - I'm not sure if you've heard of it, but if you haven't, thought I might suggest something helpful. If you have 0 reception out there then it might not help, but for my dog I have a collar called the FI 2, and it has a cell phone chip built in which allows me to track my dog's location if she gets lost. We don't always camp in reception areas, but when her collar finds reception it lets us know where she's located. Might be helpful for your pups.
The Fx4 package: on top of giving 4wd. You get 4hi and 4lo. Diff Lock, rear only. Upgraded offroad suspension. As well as metal skid plates to protect the undercarriage. I think that's mostly it. There might be a few things I forgot.
@@backwoodstherapy To protect the transmission and transfer case since they have aluminum housings these days and coming down on a big rock can crack them in half. Factory skid plates are a metal protection plate mounted underneath that will actually skid over rocks and protect the vitals.
FX is/was the trim and equipment level just below the Lariat. The 4 just denotes that it's the 4x4 version with offroad equipment standard. They also made FX2 which is geared toward street use.
The FX has running boards so when the guy that's driving it doesn't get his dress muddy when he's getting in it. Matt must be really talented he actually got a Ford down that trail. And for anybody that's worried about those dogs they seem like they're well taken care of. Lizzie you're just awesome what else can I say you rise to ever challenge
4L with the locker is a decent enough combo for light stuff. My biggest gripe about the current F150s is the lousy turning radius (evident in that left corner you took). My old '91 Bronco with the IFS front end turned on a dime. Great work Matt and the MORR Team!
Suspension type doesn't matter as much as wheelbase. The giant turning radius is because that F150 is about 40 inches longer than your Bronco. This era of F150 has IFS. Your 91 Bronco had Twin Traction Beam front suspension.
To simplify the answer to your question, FX on ford gives you skid plates. I have a 2016 F150 and it is super important because the oil pan is a composite material. Makes me feel better that I have the skid plates!!
Totally injoyable to watch!!! I love the way Matt says we're past the bad part ... Now we just have the bad part in front of us 😁 LOL ... First time I have ever seen Lizzie with her hair out 😳 wow its buitiful !!! Great recovery.!!! Thank you to the hole MORR team for the great content.. 👍
On my 2021 Ranger, FX4 has skid plates, tuned shocks, trail modes and rear locker. I don't do rock crawling so it is all that need to overland camp and run around in the snow.
Lizzy doing the shift pattern was awesome! While in Iraq and Afghanistan I had to give driving lessons to service members and contractors on how to drive a manual transmission.
I am 56 and have never driven an automatic, ever. They used to be the expensive option but have become more common in the last 15 years, but I have been driving the same car for 20 years so it has not affected me.
@@DavidtheSwarfer I have a couple of years on you, and I have gone back and forth over the years, as I learned to drive in a four speed manual, and a three on the tree manual, before ever driving an automatic. Took my driving test in an automatic, so that made it a little easier to pass. I can drive a manual still, but my knee won't take it for long, so my vehicles are all automatic currently.
My 2016 f350 when I ordered it the fx4 package came with a transfer case skid plate, electronic locking rear axle, down hill decent, rancho shocks and a fx4 sticker on the bed
FX4 package is shocks, skid plates and an E-locker in the rear. The Tremor package is all that with addition of a limited slip front differential, a leveling kit and larger tires. The Raptor is all that and a complete suspension package at a cost of towing capacity. I’d also add that the Tremor package was only available in the super duty trucks up until recently. And the Raptor is only available in the F150.
Don’t listen to the “nay-sayers” regarding the dogs. As a dog trainer, I haven’t seen anything on this channel happening to those dogs that gives me any concern at all. Keep up the great work and excellent content. Looking forward to seeing the finished Heavy Wrecker in action.
Pretty sure these are the main differences from FX4 vs regular F150 4wd About a 1 inch lift compared to a typical F150 Comes with AT tires from the factory 3.73 locking rear diff instead of the typical 3.55 A couple skid plates instead of plastic fuel efficiency covers underneath I have the same generation F150 FX4. Maybe it its a competent offroader for a factory stock truck but I'll never know first hand as mine is in the driveway for towing only. I'd prefer a regular 4wd with 355 and regular tires for better fuel economy but reasonably priced used trucks is hard to find so can't be too picky these days.
@@307.William The Lariat upgrade to the FX4 is nice. All things considered, even with the supposed 'offroad' suspension and the louder AT tires it still rides smooth and quiet.

Another great recovery from your team Matt. Not just myself but a lot of other people think that it’s time Lizzie had her own truck to help with the recoveries. She is an awesome person who can turn her hand to anything. It’s time to let her light shine. So how about it.
Fx4 gives you the electronic locking rear end. There are also a few other things like skidplate and different shocks but the electronic locker is the main benefit to the Fx4 package over a standard 4x4.
On my 2018 FX4, it is: locking rear axle / extra skid plates and the FX4 stickers. Ford literally quotes the stickers as part of the option package. And the locking axle is available without the FX4 package; so in reality 'FX4' is just a couple of fairly light skid plates and those cool stickers...
As far as I understand, the FX4 package is a set of extra skid and rock plates protecting the drivetrain and gas tank on the truck. I had an 02 FX4, and all of the plates were 1/4 inch steel instead of the plastic dust covers the non FX trucks usually had, if they had any covers under there at all.

The FX Package is the Off-road edition and comes with upgraded shocks/springs as well as a rear locker and more aggressive factory AT tires. In the 2009-14 Model the FX also included creature comforts (leather, remote start, heated seats/mirrors, etc.) I had a 2011 FX4 Luxury which had all those things.
FX4 is their extreme offroad package with long-travel shocks, skid plates, low range modifiers for descent control, deeper oil sump for steeper climbing angles and front/rear electronic lockers.

Old Max is one impressive off road package himself.
I love that you take your dogs on these trips, and let them run! It's clear they are happy doing it, and anyone says otherwise clearly doesn't know dogs at all.
Camera doesn’t show just how steep that edge is. Matt’s caution shows how precious that job was.
Gotta say the customer didn't look too happy. Always trust your recovery agent, they tend to know what they're doing. Considering you've got previous for rescuing from that particular road, he should have bowed to your superior knowledge. Can't win them all.
Hey guys I just wanted too let you guys know that I've got a new found respect for the jobs you guys do in Sand Hollow and surrounding area. I recently made the drive from North Eastern New Mexico for UTV Takeover and let me tell you the terrain is huge! Knowing now where you've hauled a trailer, the terrain. It's absolutely mind blowing 🤯. It sucks cameras don't show just how steep some of your rescues are.
The dogs know better than us what they need. Good to see them out having a run.
Nice recovery
The best and most wholesome and family friendly UA-cam channel out there. If you can't sit and enjoy the beautiful Utah scenery and see these great people helping others then I don't know what to say. I love this channel and Matt's friends.
Hi Rick. Wonder if we're related.
Lol. The State of Utah disagrees.
@@andrewh7599 what that their not related? So how long have you been a state representative?
@@drgruber57 99% of my family is from Youngstown, Ohio. If you or your parents are from there it is a good chance we may be.
Matt, if you are looking for Corvair parts, there are a several Corvairs and Lakewood wagons at B&R Old car parts in Ogden. they have sold the place and the cars are being crushed on Dec. 1st. i know the Lakewood has good glass in it since i was there today. better hurry
Happy doggies!!! Anyone who has been around working breeds understands that they do what they want how they want if they want. Not getting them back in the truck until they’re ready! Your pack is happy, healthy, clean, active, and well loved! ❤🐾
Matt, that was some real world wisdom. "The worst is behind us except for what is in front of us." Deep man, really really deep. Should be a t-shirt.
0:14 seatbelts! I get nervous every time I see you guys without them.
Peltzman's paradox, automation breeds complacency.
Good to see Trevor, whether this is an old rescue or a drop-in.
This is the last video I know of that Trevor is in 😢 , he was my favorite on the channel. Kinda bummed
I still don't like Honeymoon. It's better when I'm going down, but even with riding in a group I always panic at the same place you guys rescued me before.
Seems lIke it’s been awhile. Overdue for a call Matt moment?
Having watched this channel for a few years, I thinks it interesting how Matt used to never use or even want a winch. Now almost everything is winched out. On a recovery like this I wonder how he would have done it in the past. This seemed like it worked well with the winch.
I heard he got a winch sponsor but not sure
Regardless I think he realized work smarter not harder
Yanking em out puts a lot more wear and tear on his vehicles and isn’t as safe, not that it’s unsafe but there is a safer alternative
The winch on the other hand does all the grunt work the vehicle is just a counterweight
I find my self clicking off my favorite channels to watch these videos. Think it’s time to label Matt’s off-road recovery my favorite channel
I'm glad Fab Rats always posts their video about 15 minutes before Matt does. That way right when Fab Rats ends I come over here 👍🏻💪🏻
Good idea.
Yeah much better than tv
It's nice to watch MORR, Fab Rats and Robby Layton for nice clean positive politics free content. I am sure many find it their guilty bit of therapy in todays insane world. For that they deserve a big thanks.
Matt you and the MORR team are such heroes to all the people you recover. You provide such a great service.
Had kind of a rough morning today so I really appreciated the levity and jokes. Always makes me feel a little bit less stressed out to see you guys handle these tough situations with grace. Thanks for sharing!
Long time listener, first time caller. The FX4 package on a Ford includes the step rails, aluminum alloy wheels, A/T tires, skid plates and locking rear diff.
The worst is behind us except the stuff in front of us.... you crack me up... Always entertaining to watch Thanks for all you all's hard work!
That was my favorite line of the video!!
The worst is behind us...except for what's in front of us.... Matt is always giving out life lessons.....
I love how high pressure for Matt is 15psi 😂
40's have more square inches to support a given weight than say 31.5's. 15 pounds per square inch of surface area.
Just to think my truck I run 80psi
The Fx4 is a package of the off road suspension, Terrain management system, including a incline meter, trail control system, including a cruse control for slow wheeling, snow setting, dirt setting, etc., e-locker for the rear, some cardboard skid plates, some metal ones, off-road screen in cluster.
Came from Iowa to Hurricane a couple of weeks ago and stopped by for a shirt. The dogs were in a fenced in area and found out "Peanut" is a guard dog as well! Did a little growling. . . .
In that model year the Fx4 gave it 3.73 gearing instead of 3.31 of 3.55 and also gave it a rear e-locker, which you discovered after the recovery.
the FX4 package adds improved shocks, skid plates, and other notable features like a terrain management system. Additionally, the FX4 option will add visual upgrades through exterior graphics.
Don't they all come with locking rear axles too? Something I thought I noticed looking at trucks.
So basically nothing for off roading. Just a package to appeal to suburbanites haha.
Don't forget the rear locker. That's the most important addition the package gets you.
My Brother has a Raptor. I don't think it's every seen anything other than a gravel road.
@@russellv6234 yeah the rear elocker t comes with isn't for offroading at all...
Yup, always a pleasure to watch ur teamwork! And if the owner was anxious about you taking the car down the trail, why did he go there in the first place? If I would get my RAV4 stuck anywhere, I'd gladly hand over the keyfob to Matt or any of his company. Cheers!
I'm an import guy! I buy Japanese hot rods and slam them on the ground but it turns out I enjoy your channel so much I'm thinking about buying a truck heading out your way and getting stuck! Love the good show keep it up ladies and gentlemen!
@@backwoodstherapy appreciate the advice! Live in the Great White mountains of New Hampshire trust me we're trail ready... Well I'm not but the fellas in my circle certainly are. There's definitely been a few videos where people shouldn't be allowed to drive 4x4s
that truck yall were drivin is a 2013-2014 f150 and the FX4 is an offroad package that comes with 3.73 locking rear end, and flimsy “skid plates” and a really nice interior
I work with dogs daily and I LOVE watching your dogs run and play around. It's quite evident they're happy and healthy. :)
Yeah. Anyone who has lived in the country with dogs can immediately tell that they're really happy, healthy, well trained and LOVED dogs.

Yep....These are EXPERIENCED dog owners.....Dogs are at their happiest when they know their place in the pack and they are TREATED LIKE DOGS.
I gotta say, I love the undercarriage views of the morvair. Very awesome
Great shot as the Morvar drive train as it rolled over camera. Surprised not to see cover over flywheel as all the dirt and mud you get in is hard on starter. Thanks for getting him out safely
I agree - the Morvair looks good from below.
09:17 Might want to fix those tranny seals it's starting to look like the Exxon Valdez under your rig.
I once got my '65 Mustang in a similar predicament and I had no way to call for help. But - it was a dirt road and I had an Army entrenching tool in my trunk. I dug a shallow trench for the up-hill wheels to follow and slowly worked my way back onto the mountain road. Phew!!
That rescue made my hands sweat. I really liked the video of the underside of the (I believe) Morrvair. Thanks for a wild ride.
Those that think that could have been driven out would likely have rolled down that slope. Good work Matt
I love how the dogs lead the way then when they get a little bit ahead they wait for everyone to catch up 👍🏻
As is most usual with Matt's recovery his crew are experienced and completed this recovery with no problems. Good job 👍
I just want to say thank you for including your dogs in the videos. It's always lovely to see them.
FX4 means skid plates and rear electronic locker.
That was a scary and potentially very dangerous scenario! Great recovery job!
“To me ❤they all look stuck.” Love this channel. Visited Utah and the Mighty Five National Parks last month. Stayed in Hurricane four days. Seeing the Morvair and Banana in the parking lot was the trip highlight😁
It's always a good day when Max is allowed to tag along. He must have been behaving himself.😂
Love seeing all the dogs but it's a special treat when Max is along
Great video. What I don't understand is how anyone can watch this on TV and think they know better than you do how to get something out or what direction to go. You have driving skills that I am amazed at and a knowledge of that area that is amazing. But then, I'm from North Central Oklahoma where there is nothing like what you guys go through.
your best content is these types of recoveries. it shows your genius at figuring this stuff out.
Did you know there's no inspection cover over the torque converter on the corvair? Seems like something you'd want to keep buttoned up out there.
I love to see how sensible and self confident is Matt. It's already like a friend of mine
Matt and team -
I'm not sure if you've heard of it, but if you haven't, thought I might suggest something helpful.
Happy Friday to MORR & everyone else! Hope you all have a great weekend an stay safe!
You too‼
Lizzie’s Off-road Recovery! 😊. Love the hi-flow, ventilated Morrvair torque converter cover!
The Fx4 package:
on top of giving 4wd.
You get 4hi and 4lo.
Diff Lock, rear only.
Upgraded offroad suspension.
As well as metal skid plates to protect the undercarriage.
I think that's mostly it. There might be a few things I forgot.
Skid plates?
@@backwoodstherapy Yes.
@@gregbrooks3577 more like thin pot metal
@@backwoodstherapy To protect the transmission and transfer case since they have aluminum housings these days and coming down on a big rock can crack them in half. Factory skid plates are a metal protection plate mounted underneath that will actually skid over rocks and protect the vitals.
@@fritty9927 They are a joke. I have had 2 FX4's. Don't take one far off road.
I agree with everything but the Ford diss. 😂
@Brian In Georgia is correct. Also, that truck is at the newest a 2017. Ford changed the look of the truck after that year. Can tell by the tailgate.
I remember when I bought my '90 Bronco I was surprised that it had a tighter turning radius than my '87 Jeep Wrangler.
I'm glad the license plate on the front says TRUCK...just in case I'm confused!
Happy Friday, MORR
It said “Truck Country”. A dealership in Utah.
Always a pleasure to watch your content. I lived out west for 30 years and miss the beautiful views. Thanks for sharing your life with us.
Pretty sure these are the main differences from FX4 vs regular F150 4wd
About a 1 inch lift compared to a typical F150
Comes with AT tires from the factory
3.73 locking rear diff instead of the typical 3.55
A couple skid plates instead of plastic fuel efficiency covers underneath
I have the same generation F150 FX4. Maybe it its a competent offroader for a factory stock truck but I'll never know first hand as mine is in the driveway for towing only. I'd prefer a regular 4wd with 355 and regular tires for better fuel economy but reasonably priced used trucks is hard to find so can't be too picky these days.
I drive a Lariat that has all the same things and I agree I wish I had 3:55’s and better economy. 😬
@@307.William The Lariat upgrade to the FX4 is nice.
All things considered, even with the supposed 'offroad' suspension and the louder AT tires it still rides smooth and quiet.

Matt said in the comments that the heavy wrecker will take some of the snow jobs this winter. But the Bombi will just have to make it through another season as is.
Great recovery. A little TLC and that pickup made it out without any additional trail rash. Loved the scenery shots at the being of the episode. Such gorgeous country. Thanks for sharing.
Lizzy looked cool behind the wheel of the morrvair. We need a Lizzy build.
They're supposed to be doing a tracker. Hopefully right after the wrecker. But as with any busy operation everything is always in flux.
My parents had a 03 fx4. Thing would go through a lot with a lift and the factory locker.
They have Ranchero shocks
Locking diff
Skid plates
Upgraded trans cooler
Another great recovery from your team Matt. Not just myself but a lot of other people think that it’s time Lizzie had her own truck to help with the recoveries. She is an awesome person who can turn her hand to anything. It’s time to let her light shine. So how about it.
Matt can drive the new wrecker, Lizzie can then take over the Banana or Morvair :)
Matt can drive the new wrecker, Lizzie can then take over the Banana or Morvair :)
Fx4 gives you the electronic locking rear end. There are also a few other things like skidplate and different shocks but the electronic locker is the main benefit to the Fx4 package over a standard 4x4.
I always wondered how many people get stuck just to see you guys. Haha. Or get a shirt.
That was an awesome underbody shot. I have never seen a tourqe converter spinning like that.
Love your dogs. Always great to see happy doggies.
Max is such a lab. He’s really funny.
he indeed is. I take care of a black lab for friends when they need a sitter for her. So far, I have not noted her being quite as bad as Max has at times been, but when she sees another dog... Squirrel! Gotta hold on for dear life or I fall so gotta be aware of that and rein her in.
⬆️Hit me up.......💬☝️☝️
Lizzy becoming an incredible off-roader
FX4 is their extreme offroad package with long-travel shocks, skid plates, low range modifiers for descent control, deeper oil sump for steeper climbing angles and front/rear electronic lockers.
With lizzy getting training that means she might have to rescue you some day.
