If you're doing a cute concept you need to add a 'special factor' that draws the public in and that's exactly what Red Velvet does. Their concepts may not be entirely unique in your eyes because they're "cute" but their charms along with that _special factor_ is the secret weapon that makes them so sucessful. They have their own color and you can't deny it.

I hate "dance practice videos" when everyone coordinates their outfits with each other or literally just wears their stage clothes. they have minimal makeup on and this video truly captures the essence of what dance practicing is

I really REALLY LOVE how confident they are with their own skin. None of the members are wearing much make up here and still they are confident and are showing their skin to the public which most artists avoid and often wear masks. This ,kind of, shows that they focus on the aspect that they are doing. Like its dance practice vid where they are slaying with their dance and not their looks. And another thing that makes them unique as a group is that they are not your cute ordinary girl group but they are weird, smart and go towards the more meaningful concepts in their velvet sides. So Eun Considering the camerawork (the way the camera zoomed down from the ceiling in the beginning of the video and then back at the end) I think SM were planning to use the footage:) if you want to see true "not-meant-for-the-public-footage" go watch SHINee's Lucifer dance practice; it was one of the first dance practice videos made public, and you can tell it wasn't meant to be broadcasted, bc there's a toilet roll on the floor in front of them to mark the centre of the room and the stripes on Taemin's shirt create strange visual illusions together with the low resolution :p Ever since EXO's debut in 2012 (the EXO members wore huge name tags covering their shirts in the dance practice video, something that clearly shows SM meant to release it to the public) SM has consciously made more polished and tweaked dance practice videos to put out more material for the fans, and many other companies have done the same. I don't think too many dance practice videos nowadays are shot without the idols already knowing it's going to be put up on UA-cam, it's sometimes almost as important as the actual MV:)

But because I live in a city with a massive Asian population, there's a little ( and extremely busy ) Kpop store within walking distance of my home. All girl groups are dancing, in any kind, but soo little of them talented enough to reminisce and dance like SM groups. There is so many complex dances with so many moves, steps, poppings and such things between three or four minutes and it's really so impressive to watch their live singing attempts while they're dancing like this. It's needs intelligence, talent and so many practice. Their stages are all whole package for the lovers of performance arts. It's literally different than screaming on the stage, acting cool or fierce and bring people into jam. It's an art form i like to watch and impress everytime.

I really love how this dance practice video is truly a dance practice video wherein they actually don't care about their looks (dishiveled hair, natural to no makeup, regular practice clothes) and was just candidly shot during a regular practice day in SM. All girl groups are dancing, in any kind, but soo little of them talented enough to reminisce and dance like SM groups. There is so many complex dances with so many moves, steps, poppings and such things between three or four minutes and it's really so impressive to watch their live singing attempts while they're dancing like this. It's needs intelligence, talent and so many practice. Their stages are all whole package for the lovers of performance arts. It's literally different than screaming on the stage, acting cool or fierce and bring people into jam. It's an art form i like to watch and impress everytime.
Anyway, good job Red Velvet. I hope SM release more practice videos in the future.
