Idk why I kept saying “Up Into This Point!” But now I hate this video more than any other video I’ve put out.
Daniel Greene it’s fine. Don’t beat yourself up. Up into this point, I didn’t even notice.
Yeah and don't worry about calling it GoT. lol. It's ok.
Bruh it’s a good video I didn’t notice you saying that
I want meat, but I don't noticed any of the that stuff your worried about. I would preffer Game of Thrones.
good video mate
This is where the series really begins to diverge from the show in terms of plot. Most of the storylines got cut from the showrunners, but George really wanted to include as much as possible in the show. He tried so hard to get Lady Stoneheart in the show. I think most people don't realize that just because a certain character or storyline was cut or reduced in the show, it doesn't mean that they're not important in the books.
Dead Quaithe14 this
A good thing that Lady stoneheart was not in the show as her story was completely unfinished.
I don’t get why they gave Quaithes input to the story to Jorah in the show like for what purpose did that serve 😒 but then again d&d said they don’t care about the magic or lore of asoiaf which is why it ended so stupidly
I love the "what is a broken man" part in one of the Brienne chapter. Since Arya left Westeros, we now have Brienne as our POV to see how the common folk are affected by the conflicts.
The broken man chapter might be my favourite chapter in the entire series.
The "Fire and Blood" revelation of Doran Martell was one of my favourite moments in the book, as well as the prologue - last chapter plot.
Oooh. I still get the goosebumbs just thinking about it. So good.
Omg saaame
It made Dany such a bigger threat to the iron throne.
Agreed
What is the revelation again?
No mention of ironborn plotline in this one? It’s a stark divide from the earlier tone of series and many don’t like it. I do, I think the Kingsmoot was a masterpiece.
It was my favorite part of the book!
I wouldn't have expected YOU of all people to like the Kingsmoot, person with the Kraken sigil as their UA-cam pic.
Easily one of the best chapters in the series!
Victarion's chapters are my favorite. Surprised he didn't mention them at all. The plot significance of the Iron Islanders is game-changing.
It was a heart in the throat kinda situation..altho we knew who'd win..!!
First time I read Feast for Crows it was probably my least favourite because the pacing is so much slower than the 3 preceding books. But on a re read it might be one of my favourites because you really spend time with all the characters on screen and come to understand them a lot more.
What do you think of it now? For me it happened exactly as you said; I (didn't hate it but) didn't enjoy it as much as the other books, but after a second read it has become possibly my favourite book of the series because I actually took the time that the book actually demands from us and realized how great(ly written) A Feast For Crows actually is...
I hope what your saying is true, because right now its my leadt favourite
Kingsmoot is probably the best chapter in the series.
Lovecraftian Euron Greyjoy the biggest threat in the entire series
For me, this is my favourite book. When I started, though, I had to put it down as I couldn't crack it.
But suddenly after some days, I was able to fall into its Rythm... What I did different this time was that I forgot trying to read and focus. I dropped concern about plot.
I simply allowed myself to let the Prose take me, let the Reading take me wherever it takes... And I found this Book most memorable and beautiful. I will put it as 1st in my ranking.
The Jaime and Arya chapters, Dornish Plot and terrific character that was Doran Martell... That contemplation and silence, nostalgia in his chapters, Littlefinger's complicated scheme around Sansa, Darkstar, Brienne's magnificent arc which most find snoozey... I loved those chapters... The feel of Oldtown and Faceless Man.
This book is about Feels. You have to sip it like an extravagant vintage to really get soaked into its awesomeness.
You're forgetting the most important of all; The Ironborn Chapters
My summary of the Brienne plot line in Feast for Crows: “I'm looking for my sister. She's a maid of three and ten, with auburn hair.“
For me it was the weakest of the five books, it felt too slow, but maybe I was just missing Tyrion and Jon. Jaime's and Cersei's POV chapters were really cool though. :)
I laugh because it was so painful.
That and then burying nimble dick, finding out the hound is dead, and then getting fucked up by biter and them outlaws, AND THEN FUCKING LADY STONEHEART HOLY SHIT
@@iHomelessMonkey I absolutely loved the chapter where she faces off with Rorge.
Then she gets her face half eaten
!!!
I love Feast for a lot of reasons and one of them is how it breaks the pace of the previous books and gives the reader several chapters of downtime to soak in the events that have happened.
The Ironborn Storyline is hands down my favorite storyline to be added to the current story.
It really broadened the scope and scale of every kingdom in Westeros, and I especially liked the depth shown in the Ironborn .
The Dorne sub-plot was my favourite thing in this book. Just amazing. Great review man.
AFFC Cersei pov chapters made me fall in love with the character...even tho her character is very hard to love..her chapters are so well written and develop her character so well that she is now one of my favorites of the series
This book is best on the reared. It reads much better the second time around, but it will never be anything but slow. Still good though.
Agreed, I hated AFFC on the first read because I really misliked Cersei’s chapters. But now they’re my favorite.
I absolutely loved the book. It is incredible how we can fall in love with characters we just met, 4 books later. Wow.
One of my favourite in the series
Same! :)
What are your thoughts on A Feast For Crows??
... necessary.
It suffers from the comparison with A Storm of Swords. However, I found that the new Greyjoy and Martell were well integreted, and parts of Cersei and Jaime were very interesting. Indeed some narrative arcs are slow, such as the interminable quest of Brienne. Even if it is an unpopular opinion, I think that dividing spatially plots and not temporally wasn't a very good decision. I know that, on the contrary case, there would be too many characters at the same time, but maybe it would have been easier for installing The Winds of Winter. But I greet the risks taken, and I consider A Feast for Crows as a good transition to the second part of the series.
Brienne's chapters were a snoozefest. Cersei would be so much more hated by the fans if the show used more of her chapters. The introduction of so many point of view characters was not a good idea, why did we need several Greyjoys and Martells to advance the plot?
@@bluehope42 After all the characters killed in A Storm of Swords, I think it was necessary to introduce new ones in order to prepare new plots and pursue the 'political war'.
DNF...
I understand your criticism of GRRM killing off too many characters but this is one of my favorite aspects of ASOIAF.
I think that his choice to write the series this way gives a true sense of realism. It is shocking for events like the red wedding to take place but in retrospect with the details we are given, that outcome is what made the most sense. With the characterization we get for Tywin and Walder Frey, the Red Wedding (or some other form of Frey betrayal) isn't surprising. GRRM has a way of hitting us with surprises that, upon re-reads, make you almost feel stupid for not seeing it coming. This gives the story such a sense of realism because this directly reflects the in-fighting and betrayals we learn about in European history, which also does not discriminate when it comes to who lives and dies. Great men died young, evil men thrived, and every other possible combination.
Thiis is where I think GRRM has a leg up on Tolkien and Jordan. All three have written massive fictional histories and the LOTR and WoT universes are much more developed, but GRRMs fictional history feels more real to me because it actually feels as violent and indiscriminately brutal as our own.
Also, I'd very strongly recommend adding the Dunk and Egg stories (A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms) to your reading (listening?) list. The actor who plays Viserys in the the show does the audiobooks and he does an incredible job. His performance is so amazing I find myself listening to one of the three novellas on a weekly basis.
The first half of this book is slow paced. It took me about 12 months to get through it, picking it up and putting it down. But once I started getting hooked by the Dorne and Ceitcei story line. I finished the second half in about a week. I loved all the plotting and where everything is going. Now I’m getting ready to read a dance with dragon and I have a feeling I’m gonna be pissed off once I’m done with and have to wait forever for the remaining books to come out
Feast really goes from decent to brilliant on the reread with all the details and nods you don't notice on the first run through, Brienne's chapters, which felt directionless on the first run, really became some of my favourites when I realized how well they developed the world and showed the aftermath of the war. Sansa's development in this book also makes her one of my favourite characters and I am really excited to see where she goes next. Highly recommend a reread of the series to really get into what makes it brilliant.
The UK versions are amazing if you ever want to re-read the series. They split up A Dance With Dragons in two, so after A Storm Of Swords, you get to ADWD part 1, which is only 600 pages or so, moving to A Feast. After that you catch up with ADWD part 2 ( which basically is a follow up to both books.) I know the combined reading order online sort of does it this way but those "3 volumes" in the uk make for a better reading experience in my opinion.
I might have to buy those for my reread lol I want to do a combined reading order so I like that this does that
Really intresting review Daniel! What were your thoughts on the Dornish and Iron Islands plotline?
Yea like you said on the rereads this series gets better every time. I’ve read it like a large handful of times and each time I find myself appreciating a different chapter or story ark more. Great video!
Just in time. I am in the middle of reading the first book game of thrones. Awesome review very focused. For sure I will review this series in my channel. I really like your video.
i just finished a Feast for Crows and damnit i loved it so much, it might have been the shortest of it. took me a week and a half
Have you red the Kings Dark Tidings series by Kel Kade
Just finished Feast myself. About to start Dance, and I pretty much agree with what you've said.
I think a major part that this book lost out on, besides splitting into two with Dance, was something that Dance also lacks (from what I understand) and that's a King of the North POV.
Catelyn was our KOTN storyline perspective in books 1-3 and she was killed off. For obvious reasons, her POV chapters ended in book 3....
I think ASOIAF not having that KOTN perspective and basically ommiting that storyline from the readers eyes hurt the story a bit.
Now granted, it couldn't be Catelyn in book 4. So for this I really wish that the Blackfish got some POV chapters, at least 3.
1 during the seige of Riverrun. 2 give him the POV when talking with Jamie Lannister. 3 the last chapter in the book could have been his POV after escaping the seige. I think Catelyn passing the baton to the Blackfish would have kept the KOTN perspective intact and kept readers more invested in that part of the story.
Another character that could have gotten some major POV time and didn't get any should have been Loras Tyrell.
For a majority of the book, he had dealings with Jamie and Cercei in King's Landing. At least 2-3 of Jamie/Cercei chapters could have easily went to Loras as well as his 4th chapter taking place at the seige of Dragonstone.
I understand their is speculation he isn't actually fatally injured and that the Tyrell's are plotting, but his fate could have been left off vague just like Brienne's. And even though Loras is a Tyrell, it wouldn't surprise me if he is ignorant to a lot of what Olenna has actually been up too.
I loved the book but understand why some consider it the weakest. I think the Blackfish and a much needed Tyrell POV could have definitely added to the intrigue for Feast.
Sorry for the long comment 2 years late, but I'm a die hard! 😅 Great content btw!
Euron King!
Most will tell you this is the weakest of the series and I would have to agree just because certain arcs were painfully slow (*cough Brienne cough*), but it undoubtedly contains incredible storylines that often get overlooked because of how they were treated in the show. Cersei’s storyline in this book is probably my favourite arc in the whole series and I also love the Dornish and Ironborn chapters.
Enjoy A Dance With A Dragons, it can be a bit of a mixed bag at times (some really slow arcs near the beginning) but when it pays off it’s incredible, probably my favourite book in the series.
I really liked some of the Brienne chapters, they create a sad and mellow vibe I love.
I think he killed all the characters off quite naturally and effectively
"the feeling when you're coming down from a bender" wow the Irish slang JUMPED out
I do feel as if Feast for Crows was setting the stage for the next book, though yeah I get what you mean when you said some plot lines didn’t really go anywhere.
The biggest issue I had was the decision to split the characters into two books, so Book 4 and 5 are the same timeline but following different characters. That made it harder for me to follow. It's still good, but it loses a bit of its magic in the process.
I enjoyed Feast, many seem to dislike it but I found it enjoyable. The story was familiar but different from the first 3 books and watching the television show, the only weak spot was Brienne’s wild goose chase.
This is my favourite book so far... I hated most of the Brienne chapters (until the last few) and wasn't in love with all the Ironborn chapters... however I LOVED the rest. Particularly the Cersei, Jaime and Dorne chapters... absolutely intriguing. Chefs kiss to GRRM.
I can't wait for Winds Of Winter 🙏🏾💖
good review, agreed with your points.
In A Storm of Swords.
One thing about the books vs. show is that we don't know for sure yet how close GRRM will have his books mirror the tv plot development. We aren't 100% sure how much was the producers influencing the direction. So for example Sansa hasn't even really developed yet in the books. She doesn't even get to Winterfell and assert herself. It's her childhood friend that marries bastard Bolton.
It's probably best to try one of the All Leather Must Be Boiled/Feast For Dragons alternate reading orders. It's worth it if you can tolerate going between two books.
I love Feast for Crows, it has the most character, the most world building, and it is just beautifully written (also no Dany or Jon, which is a plus)
@Ed Neward I thought the stuff at the wall was not partictularly interesting. For once the show changed something for the better by having him go to Hardhome rather than just look at all the food they have for one chapter
Anyone who thinks that book 4 & 5 are bad compared to the first three just didn’t pay enough attention while reading
I feel like so many chapters were so slow to the point of being boring. Brienne's chapters were long and didn't really become interesting until the end. Cersei's chapters were really slow of her really just ruling Kingslanding and trying to undermine house Tyrell. Jamie's chapters are again really slow and dont really peak anywhere. Arya's chapters were some of the better ones but they were few and far inbetween. Sansa's chapters were nice to see more insight on a Kingdom we didnt really ever see (the vale). Samwell's is good until he sails for Oldtown then it becomes boring. I feel like the Dornish-Ironborn chapters carried the book. The only interesting things to happen was Arianne trying to crown myrcella and Dorans master plan/ the Kingsmoot and the invasion of the Mander/shield islands. I also liked how it focused on parts of Westeros that weren't highlighted in the other three books or if they were it was small like the Vale, Dorne, and Iron Islands.
This book is definitely less action packed than it's predecessors. It's like the calm after the Storm of Swords. It's a lot of politics and exposition that sets up the storm on the next book. Feast for Crows leaves off on a lot of great cliffhangars. 3 people are after the dragons, Sansa and Petyr are scheming to put Sansa on a dual-throne, Cersei and Margaery are going at it. Some good stuff, we just haven't seen the big setpieces that are being set up.
Great review
I'm a new subscriber and love your videos! I would like to suggest that you check out the Critical Failures series written by Robert Bevan. It is very much a satire of the fantasy genre that left me laughing out loud on many occasions throughout!
Erm jon wasnt really in feast but i see your points
This is my favorite book. It's oddly better on a second read through.
That books is all about the themes
I’m so thankful I chose to read the books before watching the show
this is my favorite book in the series lol.
I love it. Just finished
I thought only Catelyn died?
If you skim through or ignore the Ironborn plotline, you'll have a harder time understanding the next book.
A lot of this book was kinda just people wandering around the riverlands in the aftermath of the war
So boring
@@zm4522 I loved it 😅
What a handsome guy
I enjoyed the Dorne plot, and The Island plot, cersei chpaters, arya chapters, and some brienne chapters, Sansa was ok, I was bored out pf my mind anytime Jaime came up, And I think I HATED sams chapers
Cersi is the best!! Long may she reign!!!
Hi from uk 🇬🇧 sorry not fan of games of thrones.... 🙁... ☃️❄️ happy reading to everyone!!
May I ask why?
This was probably the worst book of the series (I JUST got done with all the books and now I'm going on to WOT) the prologue and epilogue were probably the best part of these books lol. But this book did give an insight into Cersei's mind and REALLY made you hate her lol. She THINKS she's so much smarter than she is, like she's a female Tywin (WRONG) LMAO.
I'm also reading a very small series, first before a WoT called "Wit'ch Fire" by James Clemens. They are very small books so I will finish them quickly. I suggest you guys check out this series because it's pretty good.
AFFC didn't have an epilogue.
Didn't only one pov characters die?
Ned Stark
how about catelyn.
Aurene waters was the mvp of this book.
Heyyyyyyy
"versus", not "verse".
Daniel sarcastically calls Cersei’s ways “sinful”……..ummmmm incest?
True confessions...have not finished because it got too slow and I was tired of Cersie. (I have an internal eye roll every time I think of that character) I keep meaning to go back but haven’t. I understand if you must judge me harshly.
We kinda forced to read it now to get to the next one😪
This book is pure politics. And travel.
The Ironborn plot is so boring. But at the same time, so cool. All the mythology of the drowned god is incredible and the Viking characteristics are impressive. Martin is a great storyteller. It is a "standing" book but strangely captivating (and so is A Dance with Dragons). The world is so meticulously perfect. Why not a little history and architecture, right?
But if The Winds of Winter looks like this, I'm going to be a liiiiittle triggered.
@Adaneth Whoa, so much information! Sometimes I think Martin would not be able to close all the plots (and prophecies) built in just two books. But this blog made me have a little hope. AND ANXIETY
@Adaneth Thank you! It is my addiction to read about ASoIaF. Oh, they can die... except Dany and Arya and Jon and Tyrion and Jaime and Brienne and... oh shit
This book kinda sucked. still, it doesn't diminish my enjoyment of the series.
I loved it 😄
A Feast for Crows is where I started to fall out of love with A Song of Ice and Fire. It is still better than the mess that is A Dance with Dragons but still disappointing given just how good the first three books are
I thought Cersei's chapters were the least interesting actually. Couldnt wait to get to the arya ones. Interesting looks at the ironmen as well
What's up with the thumbnail, it's so cringy, no offense intended.
This book was TOO slow... very inferior to books 1 - 3.
That's the dumbest ASOIAF book I've ever read (I still haven't read ADWD)
Slowest book in the series ? Oh boy, you don't even expect what you'll get in the next book in terms of being slow...
Ikr
This is a re-read so I'm pretty sure he knows what Dance is like. That being said, Feast and Dance are pretty similar in pace, I'd say.
@@JFCBFilms He said in this video that in previous read he didn't go past Feast of Crows. So he indeed doesn't know what awaits him in Dance ))
@@markvorobjov6185 Oh ok. Either way, I don't know why he'd be shocked by the pacing of Dance. I'll assume he's just expecting more of the same and that's what he's gonna get. The story is just a little more spread out than Feast.
Dance is much better, imo. My only gripe with it is its weird structure. It starts getting very cluttered 3/4 in when the other plotlines from Feast start coming in again. Other than that, Reek, Davos, Jon, Bran and Tyrion are some good reads, imo.
This is my FAVORITE book in the entire series. I enjoyed this book from beginning to end. I wasn't expecting to like the Iron Born storyline and yet I really really liked it. The Dorne plotline I really liked. Sansa and especially Queen Cersei have the best chapters. I HATE A Dance with Dragons. I find Jon and Dany to be incredibly BORING and Theon you can barely get through his chapters. So I disagree with most people. This is my favorite and ADWD is the WORST in my opinion.
