    Thats the best speaker here in my opinion and its clear enough. Please ,open the speakers apart a little more in order to have a more realistic demo if possible 😀

    the Revel M16 is among the best. one of my favourites. beautiful, precise, balanced, dynamic sound. this combo is also pretty decent.

    I replaced my Polk LSi15 towers + PSW 404 sub with the Revel M16 speakers + the same PSW 404 sub. I much prefer the clarity/detail and mid-tones of the Revels. The aluminum dome tweeter of the M16s offer just enough sparkle to bring out detail and texture, but not to the point where it's abrasive or fatiguing. It's tamed just a bit. The Polk Ring Radiator Tweeter felt veiled in comparison. ...And the M16 wave guide - just creates in giant holographic sound stage. They're not hard or fussy for positioning around walls, but you'll want to position your seating just inside the listening triangle. Give them a little juice, they just open up...especially when dialed in with a sub.
    I chose these over the KEF R3, Sonetto 1, and Vandersteen VLR Wood speakers.

    Excellent work Dr E. Been waiting for these foreverrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr 😊😊 I didn't realize they had 6.5" drivers - I tend to prefer 5" drivers but at their current price these are a winner and sound great with this amp. I think the amp is just smoothing them a little but I still think there's plenty of clarity and detail. It would be interesting to hear them with some other amps to see how big an effect the amp is having. I agree that they sound refined and top tier. Check out Amir's review.

    The imaging on Fields is so three dimensional that it makes the 906 sound rather flat and two dimensional in comparison. This is a tough act to follow, and I'm not sure whether the R3 can even better these.

      @@DougMen1 But what is so special about them ?

  • @DougMen1
    @DougMen1 Рік тому +1

    I think we have a new contender for the leader with this amp. I'm torn between the weightier and more balanced sound of this speaker and the leaner and livelier Aria 906. I think this Revel might be better with the blues and rock music that I mostly listen to, but I think they'd be too bassy for my small room. Now we really need to hear the R3, R200, Q350/150, 12.2, and Meta with this amp to determine where this speaker sits in the hierarchy of our favorites here. These Revel's level of refinement, composure, and detail is so astonishing (on Seasons for instance) that they tend to make the 906 sound at times like a somewhat ragged and cheap bookshelf speaker, which is no easy feat.

      @@colinchang1543 Great question. One thing that E’s Channel together with general listening has taught me is that amp/speaker matching is a real thing and that’s speaking as someone who hates audio BS. I really hope that Professor E can let us hear the M16s with a few different amps. As a generalisation I tend to prefer class A/B over class D and think that the Yamaha AS amps offer a neutral/accurate sound for a reasonable price.

      @@davidcarr2216 Agreed. I wouldn't have believed it if it weren't for E's channel. I also like what A/B's bring to the table and would prefer that. I'm not familiar with Revel speakers, or the Revel brand sound, but if these speakers are representitive of it, I mainly really like it. They're extremely balanced and controled with this Nova. This is closer to what I associate with studio monitor balance and neutrality, more than the Adams monitors or for that matter any of the Focals, KEFs or MA studios. I have to be carefull or I'll blow my reputation for not liking metal tweeters, but these are pretty refined, and seem to lack most of the usual sharpness and shimmer those often add. Most, not all. Otherwise these have a highly balanced character where nothing sounds missing or out of place, and details are vivid. This may not be the absolute most organic or utterly lifelike combo, but it's not lacking too much and is otherwise very engaging and musical sounding.

      Hey, thanks for the advice on the other video. It got me thinking and was wondering if you wouldn't mind sharing your opinion on a few speaker amp combos. I'm contemplating either the Polk R100/200 or these Revels and an amp in the 500-600 range (used works as well for a higher end option)?

      @@colinchang1543 Wow man, I'm sorry I forgot to get back to you, Colin. My bad. My philosophy is that while the speakers add more of their own charicter to a systems sound than any good amplifier does, a really good system has to begin with a good amp. I'm a person who went the used vintage gear route, buying 1990s NAD seperates as a sound uprgade to descent Onkyo and Sony ES receivers I was using before. Every speaker I have powered with them was greatly improved. No guarantees except money back if DOA. It's a bit of a risk, and even though after 4 years or so of perfect performance the preamp developed a problem with hum, it began due to an unfortunate, incorrectly wired phono cartridge incident, long story. I chose this old gear because I always liked the sound of that vintage of NAD class A/B's above anything at their price at the time, and still feel it is generaly sonicaly superior to any current integrated amp I've heard under 2 grand at least, and I paid around a quarter of that for them. A couple have slightly more sharply defined resolution in the top end, but none have the same lifelike musicality to me in other respects. My opinion and choice. I won't sell it too hard. Speakers are really a very individual taste. If you want a speaker with excellent tonal balance and detail resolution without breaking the bank, these Revels are about good as I've heard, but they're not close enough to my sound preference in their textural presentation, i.e., I have never owned a loudspeaker with metal tweeters or any metal drivers. Some people may think that's daft, but I listen with my ears not theirs, as you listen with yours.. 🙂

    Just compared these to the R3s with NAD C338 and the R200s with the C338. Very interesting. On here at least, I think the R200s are a bit closer to the R3s than the M16s. The M16s have a bass boost and a smoother top end than the R3s or R200s. Amir's measurements show a roll offin the extreme treble. Still not sure if the smoother top end is mainly down to this amp or it is in fact the speaker. Either way, these speakers with this amp would likey be more forgiving than the R3s or the R200s. Very strong competition for the R200s.

    • @DougMen1
      @DougMen1 Рік тому +1

      His measurements on all speakers always show rolloff above 10khz that no one else shows, including Erin. Sound and Vision's measurements of the M16 actually show just the opposite, a rising response between 10k and 20k.
