Much prefer the Revels. More mid range presence and much more natural decay. KEF sounds exacting and treble forward in comparison.
three years ago, when I searching for a new pair of speakers, I chose the Revel M16 over the Sonetto 1, Vandersteen VLR Wood, and the KEF R3. The Revels have a beautiful full midrange sound the others just lacked. And while the detail and sparkle was present, it wasn't harsh and overbearing. The M16 has a sweet detailed sound.
The R3, while they had a bit more detail in the upper mid-bass, they were fatiguing for me - couldn't listen to them for more than 10-15 minutes without cringing. The Revels? I can listen to all day...
Maybe what you computer speakers have too much midrange
Sometimes the speakers switch at a very inopportune time. A manual override for just a few seconds would be nice.
Each speaker needs to play the same passage - a missed opportunity here, I'm afraid.
This is a callous choice and a close competition. Both sound really good if you don't compare. M16 has got a bit more weight to the sound.
Because of this video I go the R3's and can't stop listening to Star Night demoed here.
Revel wins. KEF too bright and thin for double the price.
M16 Represents the music in more nautral accurate way. R3 has too much brightness, sounds almost artificial. Also R3 costs double of the price of M16 but it does not give a better sound.
Maybe your speakers your are listening to with this video has too much brightness.

Listening to this over studio monitors, while of course I could never get a real feel for how the UniQ drivers sound without actually listening through them, but from this demo the Revel mid range sounds thicker, the highs are less clinical and sharp and it sounds more pleasant overall. The R3 is almost unpleasant to listen to on some of the metal tracks as it sounds like they are too revealing and project forward in an overpowering manner all the distortion that is typical of the genre.
Gotta agree with DM 💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗, except I think the recordings of both these speakers sound off, otherwise , nice comparison E 💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗
Hear more difference in the bass. It seems M16 has more bass or the highs in R3 arrived earlier than the bass. Most prominent in the acoustic guitar where the highs and the bass are produced by a single instrument.
This video convinced me to buy the Revels, they are shipping today. They sound better to me, better midrange, sound warmer and sweet. Trust your ears and stop listening to price tags. If you think the KEFs sound better, good for you, trust your ears

I prefer the kef r3 better imageing due to uni q an just sounds better all around better test would be performa vs kef r
Nice work, I watched about 3 change-ups till I realized this is the M16 not the M106. Who is wanting this M16 vs R3 ($600 pair vs $1,800 pair) mismatch of speakers? The comparison we want is the M106 vs R3. Also, try and avoid switching at key changes in the material, whatever difference is washed away with the change in music. Try switching a few times every 2 seconds then maybe play each with with 5 - 8 seconds of playtime, we can always click the time line to hear it again. Good work on the sound quality, I can really hear the differences listening on my F208s.
Stop listening to the price tag, you sound like a clown

Revels are more natural sounding. Kefs are bright and kinda thin sounding.
maybe it is your computer's speakers that are bright and thin sounding
M16 is the clear winner here

ok, now the balance IS off in this video. The Revel is correctly balanced, but the R3 is shifted to, and a lot louder on the left.
Yes the R3s are screwed..and sadly so is the 3030i with the Nova. It's just fine with the C338 wich is an older recording.
I was forced to listen more closely to it and admit to him he was right. 😡

@@DougMen1 No this is much worse, but the imaging is not centered and focused properly with the Nova in the other onr wich makes it sound like sh..its a no fair comparison, and an inaccurate one. Invalid one?
@@williammiebach1798 Ok, I just listened to that video again, and it doesn't sound so much to me like the balance is off, but like the speakers are out of phase on the Nova. But, it doesn't sound like that on the video with the 3030i by themselves with the Nova, which I assume is the same recording that was used in the comparison, so the error must have occurred during the mix/mastering/processing stage of the comparison video.

m16? it should be compared with m106
What's scary here, is how well the $1000 ($700 on sale) Revel M16 stand up to the $2,200 ($1,700 on sale) KEF R3 speakers. I bought the M16 over the R3. I also now own a pair of M106. The sweetness of the M16 is still there, just a more detailed and nuanced, without the bass bloom on the M16. When they're dialed in with a sub, they feel like a $10,000/pair speaker.
Kef R3 are clearer and more balanced. simple.
