As an interior designer that is mostly doing kitchens, trust me, dont put marble in your kitchen! As you said, its is a pain to live with, especially in a kitchen where theres wine, sauce, etc. Its more for bathrooms or decorative purposes. I did like the veines in it but the Quartzite is soooooo beautiful! Its not only the look (which most commenters in favor of the marble are saying) its the material. For what I know you'll pay for, even with sponsors, you have to think about the life of the material. Go Quartizte, go!
I also immediately think of that, because of the warm tone it will pop that brown in the cabinets more and if she put green marble the cabinets will look more black.
Get the countertop that is the easiest to care for and is the most stain and heat resistance. You don't want to be a slave to your countertops or constantly worried that you are going to damage them.
@@RememberTheLord She mentioned two countertops she was considering in her video. I just gave my advice to choose the one of the two that was easiest to care for.
Go for the terra bianca, as someone who lived in a house with some marble countertops, they are really prone to staining and getting ruined with cleaning chemicals. Very pretty when brand new, not so much with years of use
I love the green in the Callacutta marble. It gives the very monochrome colour choice of basically black and white some interest, some unexpected character.
Your cabinet team look like a bunch of older dads who got together and decided that the cabinet life was for them. Absolutely love it! And if anyone has an issue with my comment my husband and father are both cabinet makers and they both said the same thing!
My last two houses , I have put quartzite ina d have been EXTREMELY happy with its durability and no fuss. I also love green, so the marble is so lovely, however the quartzite gives you the most flexibility for accent colours and for resale whenever that comes. Quartzite = timeless classic
Pick the Quartzite. The marble is gorgeous but a bit attention grabbing. The Quartzite is also excellent but is not so demanding. Kitchen surfaced should be a background to the colors of food. Also, quartzite is so much easier to maintain.
For the lights above the island, I think two junction boxes would be better than one. First because the island is longer and two hanging lights will make it look substantial. Second because you will have one light hanging above the dining table so this will give a good contrast with the lights above the island.
I am also all for the quartz. Its just not practical to have a countertop which stains so easily, as marble does and I feel like heat resistance is also a huge perk of a stone counter top.
Gyro (yhear-o) and roll the r. What's cute is how different the decision process is when it's your own home compared to makeovers. I suspect viewers can relate.
i love the quartzite! it’s subtle but still has a nice character. i think the marble is a little loud for the space but would be beautiful in a bathroom
i would choose the quartzite. as you said, the marble stains easily and requires to get sealed every now and then. since the kitchen is a high traffic area + where you cook, the quartzite would be the best choice for the function
i lived in an apartment with quartzite for years and loved it- now bought a house with marble and it feels really high maintenance in comparison. its only 6 years old and there are stains from the prior owners. the marble is lovely, just more work!
I have gone for wood aswell and the maintenance is surprisingly low we just reoiled the wood after two years it held up great. also no big stains and so fourth the grain of the wood helps alot. I personally wouldn't go for a white especially not marble bc of the upkeep and easy stain problem gorgeous stone though if one is better at cooking mess free 😅😂
Lone fox did calcatta in his new home and did a very cool and simple process of having them ‘laminated’ to prevent staining, etc. Should check it out! I very much prefer that to the quartzite. I will say it is VEEERY trendy, right now. Which means it could go out of style in a big way when people get tired of seeing it everywhere. And it is *quite* a statement. But if you don’t really care about things like that, no worries. It is absolutely beautiful, imo.
We are literally in the process of starting our Kitchen adventure. Picked out the cabinets, the layout and now talking with the contractor on walls being removed and electrical, etc. This episode is getting me stoked!
I vote for the quartzite, I wouldn't want to have to worry about re-sealing the natural stone all the time, or being afraid of staining it. I totally understand your stress about picking a countertop. We are changing our bathroom vanity countertop and it took over a year to find the sample and the place to install at a good price. The kitchen is looking amazing, I am obsessed with the lower cabinet colour. Good luck with the rest of the renovation.
I think the two stones are very comparable in looks, but I also think maintenence on the quartzite will be so much better! When we built my home, the things in my kitchen I appreciated most, were all the electrical outlets we installed, the cabinet for bakining pans, tons of large drawers, stove top and vent in the island (vent raises up) , and the indispensable appliance garage. 14 years later, I wish we had painted, and not stained the cabinets, but that's easy to fix. Oh, and after all this time, the one seam in the granite, is now separating slightly. If you do have to have seams, ask them to reinforce them from the bottom as well. Gotta figure out how to fix mine.
i’ve had honed Mystery White Marble counters in my kitchen for a decade, never sealed them since install and yes they get stains and etch and all that but they are beautiful and aging so well. I would still choose them again. Personally I think a slab with more veins and contrast would be interesting in your kitchen because it can be like abstract art. I have soapstone in a primary bath that is all the pattern needed. Quartz is so expensive because it’s engineered and usually you have to pay for the whole slab whereas natural is usually just the sq ft needed. Everyone learns so much from each reno project, kitchens are different each time.
I am so satisfied to see that Kelsey is also not that fast with design decisions regarding her own home as I'm sitting in a mostly undone apartment myself for some time now. Nobody understands, but I don't want to shop everything at IKEA (and am not a DIY pro :/). The options are endless and I also want everything to be perfect. In the end we're getting there!
I think the marble would be a grate choise and it would be an homage to the original kitchen. Plus it brings some color to the space but like you mentioned it wouldn't be overpowering or overdoing it with colors.
I was just about Year-oh, or Yearow, I guess Euro makes more sense. I know some chain restaurant that I can't remember the name of has a Gyro Hero, and saying that it rhymes like Care Bear. Definitely see why it’s hard choice, I think while the marble has more dark to tie in, the quartzite matches the aesthetic more of white uppers and dark lowers. So my final decision would be the quartzite
I loved, loved, loved the quartzite that I had in my previous home. It was very similar to the faux marble pattern of the one you were looking at. I had people think it was real marble or granite. I plan to redo the kitchen in the house I just bought and will use the exact same quartzite again. I love the ease of care for it.
It took me 4-5 months to decide on everything for my kitchen. I was just paralized with making a decision. What I had in my mind was so hard to find in reality. But now 4 years later, I would not change a thing. I regret nothing. Get the countertop that speaks to you. The Calacatta Verde marble speaks a little more to me than the quartzite, but they are both great options.
Watching this has made me so happy! I built my house almost 2yrs ago and chose the EXACT same upper/lower choices as you- white uppers with dark bottoms but also a dark upper above my fridge (I chose a dark grey). I was met with a bit of negativity by my builders because of this choice but stuck to my decision and insisted it be done as I asked it to be done. I never felt it was an odd choice and I love seeing that you’ve done the same 🤍🤍🤍 Can not wait to see your completed kitchen space 🤩
Oh and I did a white quartz countertop which has chips of grey/white/clear stones in it 🤍 I adore it- it brings the white of the uppers together with the grey of the lowers 🥰
I love the timelessness of the quartzite! I have quartz counters in my home and we have no issues with staining plus it’s easy to keep clean and maintain.
Mt husband and I have been looking to buy a house for almost 2 years now and this is both comforting and sad to watch because we just lost out on a house that I was excited about, bad inspection report came back and was going to be like $30,000 of work done on top of the price....stuff that's not DIY friendly, like replacing all the piping and subfloor...mold in the ceiling/attic, etc. 😢 absolutely suuuuucks
In the middle of a kitchen renovation myself. And all my research has led me to conclude that marble might look really pretty but its really really difficult to maintain. Quartzite for two reasons: #1 long term maintenance, trust me the constant worry and care of real marble will get old real fast - especially after the first red wine splash. #2 I believe the real marble is gorgeous, and the super obvious veins are gorgeous....while in a big huge slab. Once that gets cut up into smaller strips and laid end-end (for me) it then begins to look like zebra stripes, which isn't my vibe. I prefer the subtle and calming movement of the quartzite. It sure has been a joy to watch your channel over all these years and see your life expand from college students to full-blown adults!!!
definitely the quartzite. Not only is it more sturdy.. its a softer look. The marble is quite harsh and is one of those styles i can see loving at first but getting tired of later. The quartzite is a bit more timeless and easy on the eyes.
I would pick the bianca quartzite. Just because i know how brittle marble is and i would be waaaaay to lazy to always re-do it😅 And something about the bianca color is more suitable for me
Soooo exciting because I, myself am FINALLY getting my kitchen completed after 2 years. Long story short, I’ll never use lowes or home depot for a kitchen remodel ever again oml. I just picked out my hardware and they still have to put the toe kicks, and a side panel on. Not sure how long that will take but I can finally do my dishes and I never thought I’d be so excited to do dishes but after not having a kitchen, let alone a sink for so long, it’s stress relief.
If you can’t find a sustainable option, it’s important to at least pick a timeless looking countertop Future homeowners are more likely to rip out and replace (causing even more environmental damage) really trendy countertops that will be out of style in 5-10 years.
Slow down if you feel rushed to make decisions. Not sure why you have set a tight timeline for yourself. You want to get it right so you will be happy with the outcome. Maybe complete the ideas and areas you are certain of for now. As you sit and look at the paint colours, have fun mixing them until you get a "Yeah! and Yeh!". I struggle too with making decisions. At some point a decision has to be made. If it's something that can be changed easily later, then just go for it.
Hi Kelsey: you’re lucky to be able to use another kitchen, making the most of it and taking your time over your decisions were the right things to do. Don’t take marble. Please. Everything else is fine. Seeing your face when things were being put up will make anyone realise how painful it is to make choices and decisions about one’s very important everyday spaces. The kitchen is indeed the most important that way. All the best! I’m sure you’ll rock it when the time comes, you always do!

Oooh! Like a lessons learned absolutely!
