You sir, are an absolute legend! My passenger door handle was playing up after I fitted a new complete door. Thought I’d missed something deep inside the door associated with the lock actuator. Came across your video and boom……..fixed in 5 minutes without having to remove the door card. Thank you, you’re a star!! 👌
Thanks so much for that instructional video, I followed it step by step and after almost 4 years of having a dodgy door handle it’s now fixed! It only took me 10 mins of fiddling with the self made coat hanger hook to get the little black catch inside the door. You’ve saved me (&others) so much time and money by teaching this little trick. Thanks and happy motoring, Huw
Mate, you are a legend!! So happy people like you exist! Just putting this like this out there to help whoever may be in need! You probably just saved me a few hundred dollars at the mechanic!!!
Brilliant sir....Fixed mine today in ten minutes. I only had to move the cable outwards by a couple of notches to get the proper tension back. No coat hangers required. JW Scotland
Many thanks! You made my day! Your hints worked pretty well and that sucking door handle issue at my van is gone! Awesome video! Crisp, clear sound, no anoying music, no "like my channel"! Great!
Cheers mate just sorted passenger door been like this for ten years. Van had been resprayed before I got it handles taken of obs!!! Need to do drivers door and all as should be.🤣😁👍👍👍
Great video and helped me locate the spring but now I've done this the handle now won't open the door?? I've also replaced the small cable in case it was stretched. Any suggestions what it could now be?? Help
Great video,,,, i have a Vw caddy 10 plate and recently have been unable to open my side loading door from inside or outside, the exterior handle comes all the way out just like in your video. Subscribed 👍
Excellent work! I've recently purchased a 2007 T5 and I have central locking issues. Central locking doesn't operate and I have to use the key to get in the drivers door. Locking button on driver's door doesn't lock/unlock all doors. Cannot get a key re programmed until central locking is working. Rear door doesn't lock and is vulnerable. Can you suggest what the problem might be please? Have to get it sorted to get a Roadworthy Certificate, or your equivalent of an MOT. Cheers, "T" in Melbourne, Australia.
Hey T, There is a central locking ‘control’ unit which lives under the drivers seat (on RHD vehicles), it would be worth checking that first as your fault seems to be manifesting in a few places? Door actuators also feature and as your driver’s door mechanism isn’t doing its thing, I would put the drivers door actuator on the suspect list.
@@markhutchens Thanks Mark, I had my suspicions of the control unit under the driver's seat. That was my first area to check. Door actuators was the next place to look at. Many thanks.
Plenty of opportunities here for me to really screw things up. Probably starting with me undoing the torque screw too far and it dropping it into the door.
TBH, I can’t say for sure. I would think it’s pretty similar tho and you should be able to get the handle off easily to find out. If your handles are pulling out too far then the clip has already popped off, so you won’t loose anything by trying 😁 Let us all know how you get on. Good luck!
None of this is needed. The screw that releases the lock has a second function ...moving a small cam forward to trap the handle return lever against the door skin. This is why it is important to keep the door handle pulled in the fulley open position when unscrewing the svrew
Tbh I’m not sure. I’ve carpet lined my door card so I’m reluctant to investigate. I suspect the door card will have to come off and then you should be able to see what’s going on. Let us all know how you get on 😁
@@mattclarke6773 I don’t think so. I would guess that the door handle has been removed in the past, reassembled incorrectly and the cable connecting the handle to the latch has been holding things together. Over time the cable may have slipped. Remove the handle and refit it properly. You’ll be glad you did.
You are going to need to take out the central locking mechanism for that, which requires access from inside the door. It’s a little fiddly but there are other videos around for good enough guidance.
Thanks for your comment. It’s not strictly a malfunction but a problem with reassembly after taking the door handle off. However, I agree, not the best design.
Thanks for very helpful video.Clip popped out on my t10 minibus whilst handle was being pulled and have fixed it thanks to your bid.BTW only needed single hook to pull clip into position.Cheers mate.
One of few no nonsense videos on here that doesn’t have skull splitting music and gets right to the point! Your tip worked perfectly.
Thanks

Brilliant! Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks a lot 👍
Thanks so much for this. Works a treat although as you mentioned very fiddly
Thanks, great video, does it also work the same for the sliding door handle ?
@@traversrudd4976 I suspect it would. However, I think you need to pop off the door card to remove the handle. So can’t be certain.

Amazing information and thank you for sharing it!!!

What is a t20 torque piece mate? Other names they go by? My handle has come right out.
They are hexobular bits. Torx is the founding brand. Any hardware store will have them. Shaped like a star but star drives are different! 😁

My tottx screw wont tighten back up now..any ideas why?
Have you tried putting a little pressure on the screw as you tighten?

...once youve removed the door lock try turning the screw back and forth and you will see the cam moving through the lock hole.
Any solution to this? Mine has the same issue. I’ve reverted back to the original sticky handle issue for now
Love it! Thanks!
Where do you live, would love you to refit mine, you made it look so easy
