My succulents are wet from the rain since last week but I don't care, here's why!

- It has been either raining or showering since last week, and the weather forecast tells me it will continue until next week. But I am not concerned because I have taken the necessary precautions.
Since the wet is still drenched, I won't be able to do some planting this weekend, which also means my Let's Plant episode is delayed. So instead I thought I'm going to talk about how I'm dealing with my plants being wet all of the time lately.

I tend to post a lot of non-video stuff on Facebook.
Do you live in a climate that stays hot all year round? How do you deal with the humidity and rain?
Also I usually work on fixing the english subtitles (and add a few translations) when I publish but it has been a long day and it is getting late here. I will do it in the morning instead.
Once upon a time ..........
When I was younger ,years ago : I bought an aloevera and was obsessed with growing it and nurturing it to its best potential . My little brother also got one cz he had to annoyingly copy everything I do .
As I was very methodical I read a lot about succulents and how to take care of them . At many places it was referred that they like less water . Due to this I didn’t enjoy watering as I do now because I was constantly fearful that I might over water .
My little brother who only had interest in playing with water , exposed the plant to quite frequent showers . I was waiting when his plant will rot and die as i would triumph over my logical and methodically superior ways .
But ......... his plant out grew mine dramatically and even flowered while mine didn’t . I was burning and ashamed
Later I contemplated that his watering was conductive to progress but as I knew water can also rot I came to the conclusion that prolonged wetness rots via microbes and fungi , and dry out was only necessary to kill these not that plant hated water ....
So from the analysis of that my gardening improved drastically and I now enjoy watering plants giving them an occasional dry out via calculation ( they must be wet for sometime and only a top dry out after that to kill the vermin )
Many years later: now my brother has less of interest in plants and well I’m still obsessed with them ,especially succulents
Apologies for boring you guys with this 😂😂😂😂😂😂✌️
Definitely agree with you man. Every expert horticulturist I talk to, who are not necessarily into growing succulents, stress the importance of having good garden hygiene and practices. This includes making sure to include quarantining in your routine. Keep the new plants away from your garden for some time until you are sure they or the soil is free of disease.
Nicely researched...I got one but sadly...died from not having enough sunlight
Your collection is amazing!! 😍😍
I like your simple, realistic approach to your gardening philosophy. As you have emphasized, soil I agree, is the main building block to successful gardening. You need to adapt to all the micro climates and either add or subtract contents to your soil. I'm really enjoying and learning about succulents. Kept planting!!
Thanks again for another great video, Chuck! I always learn so much from you. I hope to see another update of your succulent seedlings. I sowed my echeveria seeds just last week.
Ohhhhhh good luck!
Garden tour
Yeah looks like we're due one. Maybe I can do one after I finish planting up Project Deux? Or at least maybe just the Patreon Shrine for now. Unless people don't mind seeing the unfinished bits. Actually now that I think about it, it makes sense showing everything including the works in progress.
I guess I can work on a tour for my next video if I still am unable to plant over the next few days.
I love this video because I saw so much of your collection! My favorite video so far!!
Hah, you'll love the next garden tour video that I will make! Not sure when I'll work on it though but soon!
That's right👌fungi are rampant and kill succulents in summer where humidity and rain make the ideal conditions for them to grow. However☝️shading and cutting watering for as long as you can in summer hardens off the succulents and makes them dormant . That gets them through the summer heat. If you can't shelter them from rain, then they need some cover above to keep them dry. In winter echeverias like rain. It is the best time for leaf propagation too. I always had great success. Also, in their natural habitat they grow wedged between rocks where the roots get moisture and it's cool, But the soil needs to be gritty and avoid bark-chips as they encourage harmful bacteria when they decompose. It's best to use a weathered soil such as scoria, perlite, pumice, red clay; basically soils that are already decomposed and won't harbour bacteria. Remember🌟the natural soils for succulents are that.Have a good day Chuck😊Thanks for sharing knowledge🌟
Thanks for mentioning the bit about "already decomposed soils". That's a very good point!
@@Cerriscapades Yes Chuck😊👌It's important.Have a good week. Hope the rainy days are finished in Melbourne🙏
Alas, the rains are still ongoing. It rained heavily again today haha!
@@Cerriscapades that's been a long week or more of rain for you😨the succulents should be fine because they have a good free-draining mix👌
Wow. That was great !!! Answered so many of my questions.
I LOVE YOUR VIDEO
Your echeverias primary are amazing bud. Thank you for sharing your wisdom I learned something from you.
You're welcome man!
Fast-draining soil. That's the key. Also planting in a proper pot with drainage hole. Succulents love unglazed terracotta.
Definitely agree!
any succulents will live during rain or shine?
some keepers said that they're selected types...
OMG this is such a colourful succulents garden in my dream😍😍😍
Thank you.
So beautiful, may i know what is your soil mix percentage?
I am house sitting. The owner has a cacti garden with a jade plant desert rose plant and another type. My concern is that they have fabric on the soil and I feel it is suffocating them. Should I remove it because the jade especially is not looking the best
Aii yes, this is a good vid. I had my cacti out in four wet weeks, they grew like crazy. Ok, it was warm tho, but they were wet several weeks. Now tho, im in a four week wet but also colder period. One week of rain to go. So i am wondering if they all survive.
I have the worst luck with rain and succulents. Not due to wetness of soil but the water trapped between leaves and burns when the sun pops out immediately after.
Thanks a lot. Your weekly episodes are very educational and a lot of fun.
How do you protect your echeverias from hail?
I don't, since I don't usually know when hail would strike. I just let them get hit and just let them outgrow the damage haha! I'm not that OCD about trying to keep them pristine all of the time, which makes it a lot easier for me. Otherwise I would have built a permanent shelter for them, which would be a shame because I like seeing them unprotected and exposed.
I live in Jakarta - Indonesia where rain is intense while the temperatue somtime reach 32 degre centigrade... alot of my potted succulent die due plant rot ..., what to do about it plese give advice, thanks
Love this video!! Unrelated question but I Saw that you have big succulents, do they all come to grow to big?
I’m waiting anxiously for 125😊 .
Hah! I'm anxiously waiting for the rains and showers to end 😂
Can you sell this product ??
How about cactus sir??
Good Job Bro
Thanks man!
