It really was a tough one but very nice for pretty much the whole way! The terrain changes and everything were fantastic! Thanks Dixon, have a great weekend! 😃
Great video. This is my first time watching one of your videos. As a viewer it’s cool to see the emotion and your appreciation for the trail and your accomplishment. Thanks!
Jon, thank you very much and especially for your feed back. I really like to hear what it is that I do right and wrong. I haven’t made a video in a bit but I intend to get back to it ASAP and knowing what everyone likes to see helps with that.
@@ConnecticutBackcountry You’re very welcome. I always try to find videos that give me a decent understanding of the trail before attempting it. I’m not a fan of all of the “influencers” on UA-cam walking and talking to an iPhone/camera. People get nothing from that other than a dose of narcissism. 😜 I am planning a section hike on the Connecticut AT for next September, that is how I stumbled across your channel. I was able to get a decent perspective from your content. Thanks
Was nodding my head and felt like I was hiking right along with you. Great hike and excellent footage! Also enjoyed your friends telling you how to do your YT video intro.
Thank you! Yeah, that's my dad and he kinda likes tradition lol. He and Peggy dropped Allen and I off for the hike so I wanted to get them in there. This was a killer hike, I can't wait to get into Mass. I am going to work North to Maine first and then start south to section hike it all unless I become spontaneously wealthy lol. Hope all is good and you are having a good long weekend.
Such a great area...but sure looks like you had some pretty steep ups and downs...Always a bonus for me when there is some running water present along the trail. Always great views and another awesome adventure! Take good care now and have a wonderful weekend! Bruce and Otis
Bruce, hello! The running water was a bonus for me also, I swear so I drink a lot lol, the ups and downs come with every day life and, as usual, present their own reward. :) Give Otis a Pat for me and have a great weekend, both of you.
Nice hike Gary! You covered a lot of ground and some challenging terrain. I have hiked most of that myself. You did it in the rain. Kudos! I'm a fellow Nutmeger myself and I really enjoy the local content.
Barb, thank you an welcome!! I am glad you liked it for sure. =D It was an awesomely difficult hike and I look forward to doing it again in the future but going to work north from here for now. Thanks for coming around, I hope you like it, lemme know what, if anything, you like most. All the best, Gary.
@@BARBSCOUNTRYHOME999 It was great for hiking as I never was concerned about finding water. We just had tons of rain and all of the streams and rivers were completely full! =D
Yeah, the second one is a flat backed millipede, pretty cool looking. I was particularly surprised by the blue tailed skink though! That ladder was cool for sure! I dig the AT for things like that. Have a great weekend Jon!
Hi Gary. Enjoyed your video of that part of the AT in CT. Have you finished the trail in CT? I hope to hike the entire trail in CT one day. Will probably continue across into southern MA to catch the views from the mountains there. Thanks for your videos - God Bless!
Ken, I have finished the Connecticut section and am hoping to get the Massachusetts section as soon as possible. It looks like a real nice section too. I hope you get to it. I haven’t hit 1k miles on that trail yet but how much I would love to get to it! ATB and thank you. :)
Nice! Those mosquitoes looked like snow a bit on the camera lol. You talking about folks seeing rattlesnakes makes me wonder if folks really know what they are looking at, or is it like here where every snake is a "rattlesnake" to a real large majority of folks lol P.s. Good thing you mentioned Allen at the end. I was about to ask if you left him for dead somewhere. 😄
Lol!! They mentioned the noise lol!! Here it is usually copper heads as rattlers are few between. Bro, the skeeters were no joke, I had a recorded breakdown at one point cursing them out lol!! Allen isn’t dead he just had to bow out m, well at least he commented so you can see he is still alive . 😛
@@ConnecticutBackcountry Ha! I have ran across crafty little corn snakes that shake their tails in leaves before. I about browned my trousers. Lol Mosquitoes are bad this year. I can't hardly go outside without deet these days. Soon the temp will drop and they'll be gone for a bit.
Looked like a fun if wet trip. I should start to think about doing some of these New England sections of the AT. How long is the stretch in Connecticut?
The CT AT is just 48 miles without side trails and such. I took a break from the New England trail for one you can legitimately camp on more readily lol. Seems the same is a problem with that north south trail.
Wonderful view of the AT through Connecticut. I will be doing this state in the spring and the two things Im nervous about are St Johns Ledges and water crossings. Were they that bad? Any advice would be appreciated.
Hello. :) the water fording, you mean Guinea brook? There was a walk around that was about a mile out of the way but it is down 4 and up Barberry hill rd, pretty easy walk but others said they did it without a problem I took the detour as it was marked on a trail sign as the river was impassable. Saint John Ledges… let me say this about that…. They go up or down depending on which direction you are going and coming south to north can be a bit of a scramble down or north to south are a giant stepping climb to the top but I did not ever feel exposed or like I was going to fall. I went north to south. The trail that day was kicking my butt.. I, honestly, would not be nervous about either. South to north there is maybe a bit of an intimidating view down the ledges but go slow, plan your steps and you should be fine and going up, while tiring, is easier on the eyes. The water crossing at Guinea brook, walk down to the water, if it looks dangerous, walk around and nobody will say bad things as you just added mileage! I’m a bit excited for you Kathy, I hope you enjoy your hike!! All the best, Gary.
Thank you so much for the information. Good planning is my best Aly. It seems like no-one talks about Connecticut and I don't understand Why. I have heard its such a beautiful state to hike and Im looking forward to it!
Thanks for the trip down memory lane. CT was the first state I ever did on the A.T. Never saw a snake or a Bear, did see a Bobcat near the regional Highschool in Canaan. Mt. Easter is supposed to be the "rattlesnake hotbed" of the A.T. Looks like you had a great trip.
Right on, glad I could take ya back a bit! I’ll be doing it again so there is still a chance for a sighting something. :) Thanks for watching. All the best, Gary.
That was a monster hike. I'm ready for a nap now.

Nice, the CT AT is nice. I don’t like the no fire rule though. Thanks for showing us and take care.
As someone who used to live in CT, I never knew it has such amazing backcountry
Oh for sure, and that doesn’t even cover some of the cliffs on the New England trail and such. Where ya at now?
