    ----------------------
"I understand English but I am unable to speak it". This problem is so common, millions of people face it. There’s a frustrating gap that one feels (between being able understand English vs not being able to speak English).
But don’t think that it’s a problem. I want you to change your attitude towards it. Just think like on the scale from 0 to 10, you’re currently somewhere on 3-4-5. So you just have to increase your standing on that scale.
Think about other languages you don’t even understand. Do you understand Russian? German?. That means you have a great headstart with English. Most of the work has been done already. Understanding a language is no small feat. And it’s the second language we are learning after our mother tongue after all.
Speaking is a separate activity for which you have to train yourself separately. Since you already understand English it will not be too difficult.
    What’s missing are 2 things:
    1. Proactive practice
Don’t wait for situations and depend on them for your practice. Proactively make time and effort and practise English. To start with, try practising daily for 15 minutes.
    2. Courage
In addition to practising, you have to show courage when situations come which require you to speak in English. Don’t run away. Don’t be afraid of making mistakes. Show some courage. You’ll soon realise you were making a bigger deal out of it than it really is.

I went to India and because I had to speak to my girlfriend in English, I managed to put every part of mine together so that I could speak properly. It had to be done so I managed to do it. And later on, in Bangalore, I used to get lost on the street on my scooter a lot because I didn't know anything about the roads, directions, etc. Auto drivers don't usually understand English. So I managed to learn Hindi from Auto drivers on the go.
I tried to take some Hindi classes before auto drivers taught me the language but the classes were not really helpful. The teacher used to tell me this is the subject, this is the object, etc. and finally, I stopped going to her class. But when you are lost on the street and you don't know the right direction, you don't really care about subject and object. I used to read their mind and body language and connect them both to the words they used. It worked.
Now that I think about it, I used the exact same method for my profession when I was around 17 and it worked for me. I noticed that they taught me useless things in school like geography, history, etc., that this is mount Everest and there is a lot of ice on the top and this the elevation, etc. I knew I could not do much with all those things. So I quit school when I was in class 10. My father had a shop where they repaired telephones, electronics, etc. So I learned simple things from my father like how to cut wire, how to connect a battery to a lamp, very very simple things. And I learned how to repair telephones just by looking how my father used to do it. As time went on, I learned everything related to telephones and my dad gave me the shop. I used to run that shop for many years on my own.
I guess, if you keep your life practical and forget about unnecessary theory, you can always get through life without problems. Problems will be there but you will always find ways to solve them. Things that people learn in school and college are not necessarily useless but the problem with school in general is that they focus on your degree, so they don't give you any time to really learn anything, or at least that is how I felt in school. The funny thing is that in my time, the actual application of a degree was that you could get married if you had a good degree otherwise nobody would trust you with their daughter. It seems that our world is little bit upside down. :)

One should question oneself , is one able to formate a story in english about event which alredy happened in the past ?
Is one able to formate in one's own mother toungue ? If yes then one has to create english mindset in order to form a story in english.
To be impeteous and impulsive take time . Keep on practicing

English is like a second language to me... Like from my childhood i was always into English... The cartoons in the childhood movies, youtube, documentaries in my youth... All in english... Honestly its very rare that you would find a content that is not in english in my youtube history... When i hear a sentence i dont have to translate it in my mind i automatically understand what that sentence means... But because of the lack of speaking opportunities i cant speak english... I stutter because to me its not natural...

Agree! Speaking English is a bit hard but practicing makes everything easy for you. If you are unable to speak a word in English don't worry you will be good at it after practicing.
But my Question is How can i practice ... what should i do for practice,

isn't it great that almost all the comments are in english, that mean people can write and express. my experience was sort of same, i could write, read but could not speak well as speaking requires quick response, so we got to think fast and speak keeping things withing our preference and desired intention as to what we want to say. my biggest progress in speaking is when i travel alone. talking to strangers and that too not from your native place gives you more confidence and pushes you to do it more. if you are from northern part of india, travel to south and try and speak there because that would be the only option to communicate. Bring yourself into the situation where you have almost no option but to speak, that is where one starts to show confidence. Talk to foreigners if you could, honestly speaking they do not judge you because the do not expect from you.

Mam i think, in our indian school the govt. Should firstly start the teaching/learnin/spekaing at all knowing this language (english) then prefer 2ndly to other hindi or other.
It should bhi mandatory to every indian to speak english fluent. after that the word हौआ will definately not be in existence😊

I am a woman of 62 years old. I was a student of English literature and did my Master's degree in English. I used to teach English in a school, but couldn't continue my job there because at that time I started expecting my daughter. After that I never looked for any job. But my daughter, now a grown up lady, living in the USA. And she and mu son in law are eagerly waiting for our visit there. We are going visit them in June, this year. But as I am not fluent in spoken English, I am in a fix now. Is it possible for you to assist me?
