  • It’s Not Easy was written by Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil for the Righteous Brothers just before their 1966 break up.
This epic production from 1966 was recorded in London, with Normie Rowe laying down a blistering vocal. The orchestra on the recording was 36 piece which included John-Paul Jones and Jimmy Page, both of whom went on to form Led Zeppelin.
This should have been an international smash for Normie, unfortunately the stars did not align.
Turntable: Technics 1210 M5G with KAB PSU, Tonearm Damper, Strobe Defeat, Applied Fidelity Sapphire Bearing, Funk Firm Achromat
Cartridge: Modified AudioTechnica AT95E loaded at 36K Ohm using 150K Ohm RCAs (Wood body and nuded JICO Hyper Elliptical Stylus), Tracking force 2.3g
Phono Preamp: Schitt Mani with Swagman PSU

This was my friend Marty's favorite song. Summer of '69? We lived in Oregon at the time. Had airplay on the Portland radio stations

This was meant to be a Righteous brothers song however they had split up so Normie Rowe was lucky enough to grab it.

If his number had not come up in the draft lottery, he would have been a far bigger star internationally Fate.

In Australia we call it National Service. He and I were in Nam the same time but he was in the Armoured Corps and me Medical. he has been a backbone for veterans in this country ever since he got back. I admire him a lot.

@@happyolddude Thanks for correcting me, sorry, I lived in the USA for too long. You may find this a nice tribute to him from the early 1980's. ua-cam.com/video/b4-ONrVsOYo/v-deo.html

engineered rather than fate I think. (It was rigged so that his date came out)

His birth date was not drawn.
Either he volunteered or a corrupt Govt. wanted an "Elvis" type pop star to serve in the Australian Army. I can't believe Rowe did not know that it may have been rigged.
Two draws per year live on TV.
Everyone I knew, in the second draw for my year, knew if their birth date was drawn. Fortunately mine wasn't.

@@GlowingTube When I had my EP collection of around 4,000 records one of the EP's I had trouble finding was his EP named 'Penelope'. It took me years to find one and finally did but it cost me plenty. Normie and I were in Vietnam at the same but he was in the Armoured Corps and I was in the Medical Corps in Vung Tau. Vietnam just about ruined his career but he managed to survive. I admire him a lot.

@@happyolddude Wow, that’s amazing. Normie had just left our local neighbourhood when my family moved to Northcote in 1966. The grown ups were talking about him and as 4 year old I was thinking, Normie who? He is very talented guy who managed to keep his career going, I really love this song and his performance, what better way to celebrate it by giving this 45 a spin on high end equipment to make it sound decent.
