I spent 24 years in the Marine Corps which six of those years were as a drill instructor, My voice was ruined and I only have a one note range to sing now, but if I could change one thing in my entire life it would be that I could sing like the man in this video, what a fantastic instrument he has, his voice! Just wonderful! D. E. Roberts SgtMaj USMC retired
Sunny side of the mountain is my favorite bluegrass song and these guy nailed it . This is the song that put bluegrass in my blood . My dad had the 45 record back in the 60's when I was a kid and I played it over and over , 20 20 vision was on the flip side .
OutStanding. THIS is bluegrass, and what they should be playing on "Sirius Bluegrass Junction".. or they should just change the name to "Acoustic Junction".
Great song just too bad that no one except the Banjo and (for the most part) fiddle could pick the melody straight... Everyone has to go all over the place and loose the basic song... A little fancy is fine but don't loose the song...
Alas, that's the Chris Thile generation for you. Glad they're keeping the general spirit alive, but there is an art to laying one down "good and clean" as Monroe would say. Too many younger players are looking to show off with amount of notes played rather than straight melody.
@@bobgrossman4371 Well said. Its really a pretty simple song to pick but just fill in ALL the gaps with unrelated runs, notes and fluff. Actually after listening to it again I retract what I said about the fiddle. She looses the song too. Sad.
RIP, Steve Gulley. 😢
Steve Gulley's vocal licks are second to none! And that band 🔥
This is just wonderful. Well done, everyone
That’s some hot banjo picking 👍👍

Great performance of this great bluegrass selection. Doesn’t matter where lovers of this music go - this is always a huge favorite.
Nick Dumas was amazing on mandolin, one of the best I've ever heard. I wonder if he ever got to meet my grandpa Chuck.
Loves Steve's ear to ear grin with all these whipper snappers tearing into it!!!
Best vocals we heard at SPBGMA this year.
Truitt Sosebee that's because Steve Gulley is probably the best singer in bluegrass...

Steve Gullen (the singer) is still a vocal power house IMHO
WOW :)
Okay I'm a former Sunny Mountain boy and that banjo player straight killed Sunnyside
son!
Okay....this is the 2nd time a Maddie Denton solo raised the hairs on my arms. Keep an eye on this girl folks. :)
Maddie is quite an excellent violinist but I'd have to say overall the band was too.
OH!...I agree with you 110% Maddie Denton has 'raised the bar' for sawing out bluegrass songs.
Cant tell whos pickin the banjo and whos pickin the guitar

My wife and I have been saying the same thing for years
Terrific playing and musicianship, but I wish the vocalist had been mic'd.
