There is a certain confidence that comes with beating a team six times in a row, stomping them by 28 even. You can see how the Celts are dominating a team they know they always beat.
Dallas problem isn’t defense . They’re keeping up for the most part . It’s Kyrie not showing up , if Kyrie gets going Boston defense will open up a little
It looks like they kept up in game 2 because Boston shot the ball horrible in game 2 but game 1 there defense was cheeks
You're right but Kyrie hasn't scored 25 or made 10 shots or had a positive plus minus against Boston in over 3 years/10 games. It's like the Celtics were built to counter him
Ok I'll bite.
- First off, Jayson Tatum is doing what Kyrie should be doing. In both games when he realizes he just doesnt have it offensively, he stops trying to force it and starts facilitating and playing D even harder. He drives trying to draw as much coverage as he can to free up coverage on his teammates.
Kyrie just kind of slumps and forces shots up on objectively bad posessions. Mind you, we know that he can facilitate, he just doesn't. -
- Luka is obviously incapable of playing consistent defense right now. Might be the rib or knee thing, but Celtics can just ignore him like a subway turnstile and even let him get his. He's such a hole on that side of the floor after the 1st half in both games that it just doesn't matter. -
- They are simply outmatched at every other position. Superstars win when they play teams with gaping holes. Celtics are a complete team on both sides of the ball. Maybe the most complete since the 2014 Spurs.
Something to keep in mind here, is that they haven't had a single good offensive game this series (for them) based on their actual net rating. God help the Mavs if Tatum can suddenly start hitting shots in Dallas. Which might actually happen because...-
- Final point. Celtics have played worse at home than on the road for 3 years now. They are undefeated this Playiff run while on the road, but this isn't a new thing. It's been happening since 2021-22 season. They play significantly better on the road in high pressure games than at home. -

Agreed, this is the crux of it. And I just don't know what the Mavs can really do on either side of the ball. It's just an awful matchup for them, and this Celtics team is so well constructed. The Celtics shot terribly but were still getting quality looks the entire game. If the Mavs trap or put two on the ball, Tatum has developed enough as a passer to where Celtics are going to generate advantages. If they don't, it's an easy drive and kick vs Luka/Ky in isolation every time. If they put a big on Jrue/DWhite in the dunker spot, that's an easy mismatch to attack on the perimeter. If they don't, all five of the guys can put the ball on the floor and score easily with no rim presence there for the Mavs. This is why running them off the 3 point line is not an option as well. Mazzulla has presented the Mavs with a bunch of problems to which they don't really have the personnel to solve, because of how vulnerable their defense is on the perimeter.
And then on the other side of the ball, the Mavs are hinging on both Ky/Luka having high efficiency games on floaters and long range middies, while a group of poor 3P shooters need to hit at a good clip. Unless they can find a way to force the Celtics to send more help from the corners, they're going to continue to get the same shot diet: tough long range twos and above the break threes for their role players - not a recipe for success.

Idk what happend with mavs pick and roll...they had so many lobs to Gaford and Lively in wolves games, and now it feels like they are both useless...and wolves were bigger and more physical team inside the paint...they keep brining Kleber in and he can not hit a shot, they might as well try THJ at this point. Also it doesnt help that Jones all of sudden air balling wide open shots, and Kai putting up 15 points on 30 something percent shooting. And on top of that missed free throws, and turnovers, but i cant blame Luka for that tbh cuz it feels like no one else is capable to create a shot or a play. Idk man they need to change something.
A lot of it is the Cs putting Tatum on the Mavs' center. So when KP/Horford's guy is coming up to screen, suddenly it's a much smaller guy rolling to the basket that isn't a rim threat. The Cs are also just fighting over screens a lot and contesting instead of over-helping, which takes away the 3 but concedes long twos. They're compensating for this by helping off of a poor shooter above the break. They're usually not committing fully to a double or trap, but to take away passing outlets and driving lanes, or force the driver to pick up the ball by digging. When they do this, suddenly it's a much easier contest for whoever's the weakside help.
The Celtic has a lot of mismatches to attack even Luka to make him tired just like the Mavs did to the Wolves

This is just a bad matchup for Dallas. Mazulla has a better gameplan than Kidd and a deeper roster. Boston is keeping Dallas from doing their pick and roll lob offense for the most part and then wearing down Luka, yeah he had 32 pts but most of that is in the beginning of the game. I dont think there is anything schematically Dallas can do to win.
I think kp is prob limited Wednesday. I think kyrie is prob going to be more motivated in that game than he’s been in a decade. But Luka and Kyrie have to recommit to defense and one of the others has to score for them. I expect Dallas to win game 3, prob drop game 4, and fight for their lives in game 5. If somehow they get game 5, I think it would go 7. Still think Celtics eventually win whether in 5 or 7. The role guys are just so much better.

I mean ur both right. It’s a tough concept for the 2k crowd to grasp, but if you don’t play defense and ur playing a team built on breaking into lane and kicking out or driving all the way all ur points are useless.

@michaeln3044 his triple double wouldnt have been useless if Derrick jones, kyrie, gafford, pj scored 5-6 more points and were more useful just like all the celtics role players.
Mavs can still be better on offense and make it competitive. Only issue is Celtics shot horrible from three 10/39. If they shot closer to their average, lets say 15/39, game would have been blow out.
87 % of celtics 3s were contested. 53% of mavs 3s were contested....and yet celtics still making more 3s. The mavs are contesting a lot of their 3s, people act like they're just missing open 3s. These guys are pretty much automatic when they're wide opened.
So do you ever want to see a Celtics vs. Lakers Finals again? It seems like you don't. You simply want the Celtics to fail. The rivalry being revived would be good for fans and good for the NBA. Hey, some people are narrow-minded. It takes all kinds.
