Sharon... Thank You so much for this information. Now I can create several training manuals that are badly needed here at the Store I manage. I love organization and having training manuals on hand is the first step for organization. Again Thank You for your easy to understand Training. Sincerely Pat.
Glad it was helpful for you! Here is a new video on Quick Reference guides in case you are interested: ua-cam.com/video/pVO4pxYRsdU/v-deo.html Thanks for watching!
Thank you very much for sharing this. This will help tremendously as I design a quick user/reference guide to my project's new dashboards. Highly appreciated!
Great video, very helpful! Would love it if you did the 2.0 version of this and went over some more advanced formatting and design elements when it comes to Word and making these guides.
Hi Brooke! Here is a newer video I did on how to create quick reference guides in Word and PowerPoint along with ideas for different formats. Hope this helps! ua-cam.com/video/pVO4pxYRsdU/v-deo.html Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much for this video. This is exactly what I am trying to do for a new program we will be using to push out a training manual. I am having an issue with the image inside the box. It is too big for the box and when I size it to fit, the image is blurry. I have used the snipping tool (copy and paste) and saved the image to add from a file but it still becomes blurry when the size is altered. Any recommendations?
I'm glad you liked this video! I also have a newer video on the same topic you may find helpful: ua-cam.com/video/pVO4pxYRsdU/v-deo.html It sounds like the issue you're having might be related to the image resolution and how it's being resized. Here are a few things you can try that may help: Use High-Resolution Images: If possible, try to start with a high-resolution version of the image. Sometimes using the Snipping Tool can result in lower-quality images. If you can, get the original image and use that. Insert Instead of Copy-Pasting: Instead of copying and pasting the image, try saving it as a file and then use the Insert option in Word or PowerPoint. This often preserves better image quality. Save as PNG: If you're using a screenshot, try saving it as a PNG file instead of a JPG before inserting it into your document. PNG files usually hold better quality, especially when resized. Check Image Compression Settings: Word and PowerPoint sometimes automatically compress images, which can make them blurry when resized. You can turn this off by going to File > Options > Advanced > Image Size and Quality and checking "Do not compress images in file." Resize Proportionally: When you resize the image, hold down the Shift key to maintain the aspect ratio and avoid distortion. Use a Shape Placeholder (PowerPoint): If you're working in PowerPoint, you can use a shape placeholder to contain the image, which helps to size and crop the image more precisely without it becoming distorted. The steps for this: 1) Insert a shape, right-click, and select Format Shape. 2) Choose Fill > Picture or Texture Fill and insert the image. This allows the image to fit the shape while keeping its aspect ratio. I hope this helps! Thanks so much for watching my videos!
Thanks so much! Excellent tips. I am having some trouble selecting a red circle on a screen grab and selecting them simultaneously to group them. Basically I want to pin the red circle to the screen shot so that if if resize the screen shot, the circle goes with it proportionately exactly where I placed it. Any advice on selecting both a shape and a pic?
Hi Anna - sometimes you have to change the "wrap text" of an object or image so you can select both to group them. Make sure that the Wrap Text option for each object is NOT "In line with Text" as that will prevent you from being able to select both. Then try holding Ctrl while selecting both objects and then you should be able to Group them. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!
Hi Nisha! Glad you found this video helpful. I used Microsoft Snipping Tool for screen grabs (If you have a Windows PC, you can type "Snipping Tool" in the search and it should come up and you can pin it to your toolbar or save a shortcut. Not sure if that is what you were asking about? I also use Camtasia to edit my videos. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks so much for watching and taking time to leave a comment! Take care!
Hello! I used a two column table so that I could design the guide with a variety of spacing options. With tables, you can merge columns or add columns if needed and in the end, you can hide the border lines if desired. You don't have to use a table, you can design from scratch if desired. I hope this helps! Thanks for watching!
What do you use to produce your videos? I love the look of them! I make instructional videos from a state University and like the combination of your main video and small vin deo of you on forground with transparent background. Please advise. Thank you!
Hi Heather! So glad to hear you like my videos! Thanks Sharon, great video. heaps of information to put in 9 minutes but delivered really well and easy to understand. Thanks again :-) How do you save the word document so that all the text boxes and arrows are locked? (sort of like a .pdf)
Hi Kris! Thanks for your kind words, I'm very glad you found this video helpful! You can lock the document down by going to the "Developer" tab, and under the Protect section, click "Restrict Editing" and a pane appears on the right. Under number 2. Editing Restrictions, check the box and select "No Changes (read only)" from the drop down. Then click "Yes, Start Enforcing Protection" it will ask you to set a password, which you may want to do but just don't forget your password because you won't be able to retrieve it if you forget what it is. Once you do that, then users opening the document will only be able to read it, they won't be able to edit or change anything. Then if you ever need to edit it again, simply go back to the "Restrict Editing" area and click "Stop Protection" and it will unlock so you can edit if needed. Hope this helps! Thanks again for watching my videos. Take care!
