@@wednesdaygeckok.7899 I’m happy the videos are worthwhile! The fanbase needs better videos discussing old products, so thats been my mission! Thank you!
Its crazy that one of the most popular and influential animes of all time has such poor information regarding one of its most important eras! You’re telling me some of the only images we have for Jakks figures are from 20+ year old Toywiz photos?
Honestly, I remember seeing these in the back of Shonen Jump 1 when it came to the states. I thought they were totally cool, so I’m glad you covered them in this video!
I remember this fondly because I wanted nothing more than Dragon Ball Lego as a kid, and I would always ask for these for Christmas/Birthday, but as you can figure most people and parents don’t know what the hell a “I-Men” is and where to get one, so I would have to use my imagination when it came to that area of Lego stand ins…
As someone who didn't grow up with these toys it's so nice to see such great videos about them, for whatever reason a lot of these lines at least in my experience are difficult to research so these videos are great! Hope to see more!
For what I can tell from other of your videos, we are sort of contemporaries, however I grew up middle class in Mexico and my DBZ toys were mostly bootlegs and even more low quality toys than the ones you mention. I still had a bunch of fun with them however
@@jorgerincon6874 some of the first bootleg toys I ever saw were in Mexico. It was a collection of bootlegged SBC figures painted in SS4. Broly was in the box so I was like… uh, what? Lol
Love these videos. as a kid i loved all these strange offshoot type toys having to do with Dragonball. I remember distinctly a little crappy plastic pinball machine i had that had plastic figurines that stuck into the top of it that i would remove and play with because the pinball machine barely worked.
Its really cool to see another old head who lived through the Irwin/Jakks era and is able to recount what it was like growing up in that period. Might I suggest a video or two on some of the interesting characters and variants Jakks produced? The amount of mould reuse from one character to another on one side and then you have gems like King Cold, Ice/Nova and Omega Shenron. No Legendary Super Saiyan Broly figure though is still weird to look back on though I guess they were trying to upsell their Movie Collection figure which was larger and more detailed.
I picked up both the DBZ and Futurama I-Men back when they were released and still have them all. Listening to someone talk about them like an archeological find makes me feel quite old.
I might have a suggestion for the magnets here. If you get the magnetic fake earrings online, they might be close to the right size. Thanks for reminding me these existed lol
I hadn't thought about these in years. They were featured in a catalog sent by Zstore years ago. I was always interested in them, particularly the Trunks figures, and simply because they were Trunks figs. Nice to relive some memories through your videos! BTW, I totally agree with you that the early to mid 2000s was the best time to grow up when it came to DBZ in the States.
Might be referring to the set of model kits Irwin produced in the early 00s. Basically upscaled Irwin figures turned into model kits. There's also the Full Action Pose line which was a Japanese exclusive line from the 90s that was the first attempt at super poseable DBZ figures with cloth outfits.
@ Yeah they came out in the 90s and were fully articulated model kits with rubber clothing and interchangeable heads for both forms. They are highly sought after nowadays by all collectors for there increasing rarity.
No kidding about the Futurama prices, I've looked and the only one I found decent prices is Fry from the Mega Bloks line, there is a Bender too but his price can be a bit higher than Fry
Amazing video man I remember hearing about these a bit ago and being interested in learning more about them Also I gotta disagree I think dragon stars are the best dragon ball figures due to the price point being consistent and all figures having roughly the same articulation But I also love Irwin and jakks for the sheer variety of characters they produced so in that respect I can see why people may say those lines are better
@ hey no problem man I’m not the kinda guy to insult someone over an opinion To me possibility makes figures more fun to play with but unlike figuarts the quality isn’t bad and they don’t upcharge things for no reason I still love Irwin and jakks tho I got a ton of them and love that characters like chi chi, garlic jr, general blue, nova Sheron etc got figures
I heard of these figures want some wasn't able to get any of those , no interest at the time , ironically bandai would release a similar figure line called dragon ball 66mm action figures first wave constisted of " super Saiyan Goku" " super Saiyan Gohan " and super Saiyan Vegeta and " super Saiyan trunks in Saiyan armor" the ssj trunks in Saiyan armor is the only one I have Left the second final Wave consisted of " super Saiyan God Blue Goku"and " super Saiyan God Blue Vegeta" and " super Saiyan trunks in jacket with sword" and " super Saiyan rose Goku black" they are good figures
As brief as possible, what are your thoughts on Dragon Ball Kai? I grew up with it and it holds a special place in my heart but I'm curious to see what an older gentleman like yourself thinks of it! Edit: 1:07 that DBZ trilogy HAS to be expensive nowadays because this is the first time I've EVER seen it!
On paper- Kai should be awesome, but the lack of Faulconer music, Sabat starting to not differentiate his Vegeta and Piccolo voice, and the JARRING re drawn scenes really detract from what could have otherwise been a much more "rewatachable" version of the show.
@@Chronically0nline Those are all really valid reasons do not be into it! Falconer's score is iconic and I play it while I read manga because it's so perfect for most of what I read! I'm surprised you didn't mention the obvious angry, yelling child in the room; Gohan. I know people that won't watch Kai on principle of Nadolny not being in it which to be fair, I totally get!
@@Chronically0nline yeahh the redraws, the changed voice actors (and even the same ones sound different), lack of faulconer productions music, and even some of the changes in dialogue made me not a fan of Kai.
It looks like the hip articulation changes between the two figures included? Sometimes the barbell is t-shaped other times it extends down from the waist in an h-shape, that’s really strange.
@@thebaker525 no its the same. The only difference is the ball hinges for the Super Saiyan figures are metal, to make magnetic connections to the wiring inside the body. The regular ones are straight plastic all the way through.
@@Chronically0nlineright but I can defo see gapping in the legs on SSJ Goku that’s not there on the base form, it looks like the ball joint itself connects to the waist from above instead of a bar straight through the crotch that makes a visible line.
