Nice demo and explanation of the process. What I liked most is that you explained that the flint and steel method actually takes little chunks of your steel. Many people don't realize that before they start using their 300 dollar carbon steel 'bushcraft' knife as the steel for the flint and wish they had just bought that 20 dollar designated striker steel or brought another designated steel like part of an old carbon steel file for instance. Or even just a 8 dollar carbon steel Hultafors or Mora knife as backup knife and have a stainless steel carefree expensive 'bushcraft' knife. They often think it works the same as a ferro rod aka firesteel.
You will always need a fire first before you can make char cloth but you did demonstrate you don't necessarily need a tin to do it. Still a tin is an easy way to do it and carry your flint and steel as well. I don't recommend carrying the flint in your trouser pocket because it's sharp and will cut. In many places in the world it will be hard to find rock hard enough to act as flint. And if you are lucky enough to find one you want to keep it with you so the tin for transport is still a good idea.

Great video Tyler. Very similar to one I made, where I just covered the cloth with various natural materials, such as paper bark, before tamping out, and covering with ash.
