Hello mates. I want to emphasise the doctrine too. The brits were following the same terrain hugging or terrain masking during the Iraq invasion in 1991 (if my memory serves me well) and got shot down by RPG7 like sitting ducks. The Americans were using JDAM and other PGMs but the Brits weren't. That was the lesson the Brits learnt during Operation Desert Storm. I have seen this in a documentary and I wanted to share this with all of you. Everyone has a valid point in the comments section though.
During 1999 kargil war...planes were asked to fly above envelope of MANPADS..that was very practical solution back then.. And Su 30 is mostly air superiority fighter...and India is arming it with precision munition..like spice 2000..spice ER..and even Kab 1500... And when we need terrain hugging bombing run..then we will use jaguar fleet..
These incidents in Ukraine are very good learnings for the IAF. The IAF is literally getting a free learning session, or should I say, at Russia's cost. India should urgently take steps to protect its MKI fleet. It will be very stupid of us if we don't implement these changes on a war footing. Russian made fighters aren't good for deep penetration ground attack role. It was acquired for air superiority role & after brahmos integration, it can use for attack by keeping itself within the safe zone. IAF has only two kinds of fighters for deep penetration attack. Both are french made.. I don't think IAF will ever get a chance to use unguided bombs in future because of our policy on civilians in military confrontation.

Nah, i cant agree, in Pakistan we can easily pursue low flying bombings after SEAD as they don't have any better systems while In case of Chaina , our fighter jets are prone to MPADS and SAMS
Situation was same with india during kargil. I still remember that IAF was short of lgbs and was having dumb bombs. But our authorities worked day n night at Visakhapatnam and made laser guided kits and converted dumbs into lethal LGB. And this development turned the tide of war.

This to me proves the sophistication of American, European or Israeli weapon system. The Stinger missile has been around for a very long time but they are still shooting down Russian aircrafts operated by extremely skilled pilots.

(only 12 Su-57s delivered) MAWS will be a part of Su-30 upgrade If it's possible to integrate the EoTS being developed for AMCA with the Su-30s then passive targetting capability will improve manifold
Russian planes are not using MAWS, and hence maybe the plane did not have the clear idea of the missile approach, India is trying to upgrade MAWS on its Su-30 MKI upgrades DRDO has developed Dhruti for the same. Also for low level strike, we are using Jagaurs not Su-30 MKI

@@MathhackAssam DR 118 is Digital Radar warning Receiver, its not MAWS. RWR will warn when the radar waves hit the plane, MAWS will warn when a missile is laucnhed against the plane and give various details of the incoming missile based on the database it has.
Bhai most of the Russia air losses are Soviet era trash Su 25 , Mi 17 & Mi 24/35 . They are flying jets at heights of just 2K -3K feet, that's why MANPADS are Sucsessfully in shooting them
What I don't understand is why are the Russians giving the Ukrainians the pleasure of shooting down their aircrafts, irrespective whether they are old or new. Its a huge moral boost for the enemy.

Russian airforce has faced stinger missiles in Afgan war and in Syria. These missiles are also fitted with proximity fuse. So even if by chance a missile reaches near to aircraft, it explodes and causes damage. Such attrition cannot be avoided and is acceptable in a war. Please understand firstly that Ukrainian military is no small, and to neutralise it, you have to accept attrition and the attrition rate so far is very less and acceptable. Secondly, all the army and airforces must be watching and studying this war closely from their point of view. Wg CDR SK Agnihotri Retd.
Lesson 1 . Don't go to war without preparation 2 . Must have proper co-ordination with all the branches 3 . train for SEAD missions 4 . Avoid flying too low ( you need to neutralize enemy air defense for that) The guys who are whining " the Russian technology is poor " are delusional at best
If you are following this war from day one u should know that SEAD is taken care on day one of this ongoing war. In this case It's MANPADS which cannot be brought into SEAD and cannot be suppressed. It's just bcoz of the plane was too low and it was not designed to take hit by MANPADS and fly it was brought down. See frog foot took 2 hits and it flew. Stinger missiles will have no affect on the Su’s if they fly high with guided bombs rather than with Dud bombs .. i feel the strategies followed by Russian airforce might not be so up-to the mark else loosing so many jets seems mind boggling to anyone !!
The Russians were not prepared for the Stinger missiles though they should have been. This was their downfall in Afghanistan too. SU 27 is not meant for low and slow missions. It is a big aircraft that has a big RCS and can be identified quickly. Doubtless, they will learn quickly. They also were not ready for a sizable force of the US Blackwater mercenaries with the latest weapons and years of experience. Russian air force consists of pilots who have excellent aircraft but but are not combat trained. This will happen soon. By 2030 the US will be what England was in 1945. Victorious but broken - a toothless tiger.

Fighter jets have to be accompanied by ground attack jets to take out enemy air defences, or SEAD. Russia has not been able to demonstrate this capability satisfactorily at all in Ukraine, and this should be a red alert for IAF.

Russia tactics is always quantity over quality they don't care about there losses but overwhelm the enemy with numerical superiority & incredible Rocket power. Don't forget 2nd world war & what they did to technologically superior German Army.
Even China is moving away from quantity over quality. In todays world China has the only man power to go on for quantity over quality but they already know it is out dated tactic and so they try to abandoned. In ww2 there is no full automatic rifles only machine gun is fully automatic so quantity has an advantages but in modern warfare a single soldier can take down human wave assault so quantity is outdated. And also Russia has a small number of population so they should not focus on quantity over quality. USA has more population than Russia.
Russian tech is also good but at the end if you don't have enough fund then don't dream of excellent technology One of the best example is Kaveri engine for us

Hi bro the reason for losses in Ukraine war according to analysis below let me know your thoughts 1) Putin orders his forces for “training and drills” surrounding Ukraine border and his generals comply by amassing over 200,000 troops. 2) Putin thought Ukraine will capitulate by a week after seeing the military buildup and hearing the plans what his generals showed him 3) suddenly when Putin ordered invasion , most generals would have obeyed his orders and hastily prepared war plans were not executed properly in northern and eastern front of Ukraine as these forces where mostly conscripts and losses mount for army 4) That’s why the real Russian air power is also missing in the war because the army and air force was instructed to conduct training and war drill with Belarus and now they are ordered to attack Ukraine . 5) Due to this development.. Russia is forced to use huge number of unguided bombs instead of guided munitions .. even tv guided munitions were also not used reportedly ( which is surprising ) their logistical plans were stuck in northern and eastern fronts.. due to tough civilian resistance hence more tanks , apc. IFv trucks lost as well .. many abandoned due to low fuel. Many don’t have maps or gps Also Lack of single engine fighter in their inventory to intercept enemy air power is also significant .. in a closely contested air space .. single engine fighter perform better than twin engine heavier fighters 6) Since conscripts are failing to achieve objectives in norther and eastern front .. they are pushing whatever aircraft they have to provide close air support and losses mount. 7) however Crimean front is progressing as per Russian standards because from 2014 it had the real Russian military stationed there .. mr Zelensky always highlights the losses in his south the most as he is visibly worried by the development happening in the south and using his propaganda ( as every country would do ) to showcase his victories in north and east Going forward I think Putin will take stock of the situation at the end of 15 days and then we might see some rearrangement from military command in north and east to proceed further.. Anyways we have a template in the past in form of Gulf war of 1991 where air power ( around 1000 planes ) were used to pound air defenses and neutralize Enemy air defenses in day 1 and start the ground invasion in day 2 .. can Russia has the capability to do .. yes it has but now they have messed 2 out Of the three active fronts Coming to Indian air force .. MAWs and LWS are installed in HAL Rudra and LCH helicopter but not in Jaguar , Su-30 MKI and Mig-29. I think Indian air force made this choice deliberately ( its not a right choice as explained in video ) because Malaysian Su-30 MKM has the same MAWs , LWS which we have for HAL Rudra and HAL LCH .. hopefully we install desi systems asap to bridge the technology gap

It could be true that Russia is not using its airforce at full strength n saving it for big occasion like in case conflict with USA, stinger can shoot down low flying targets perfectly so no worries for SUmki, its a upgraded version, even aftermath of Balakot Airstrike episode . Pakistan positioned its SAAB AWACS but they trailed behind to seek n track SuMkI , Indian SUMKi perfectly dodged missiles fired by them. Without MAWS, a big aircraft like SU 30/34 is always vulnerable to MANPADS when flying low and slow.. SU 30/34 are suited to be operated as precision strike aircraft where they can fire their weapons from a standoff range from higher altitudes and also for air superiority missions .. Either the Russians underestimated the air defence capability of Ukrainians or Russia simply doesnt care about losses , due its dominance in numbers. . IAF should use Jaguars for low level strike missions or mirages with guided bombs as was done in Balakot
One thing that's been disappointing in the Ukrane war is Russian Planes and Tanks. Ordinary Ukraine Civilians with 1 or days traning on shoulder fire equipment downed Russian planes, Helicopter and Blown up Tanks. So the better we get rid of Russian Planes and Tanks the better. Shift to French Isreali British or American Planes and Tanks and other equipment..
But. India should not be worry about It but china should worry. bec in LAC Chinese Airforce have to fly low due to Low air in the Mountains area and they can be easily targeted by Indian Anti- aircraft Shoulder fired Missiles. And the Helicopter also can be targeted same.
We do not have anything even near to su34. Su 30 and su 34 are totally different type of jet with different aerodynamics and flight profile. It is like comparing jaguars with mig 29.

RPG 7 has been around for a while , and they still destroy modern tanks.

Russian planes are not using MAWS, and hence maybe the plane did not have the clear idea of the missile approach,
India is trying to upgrade MAWS on its Su-30 MKI upgrades DRDO has developed Dhruti for the same.
Also for low level strike, we are using Jagaurs not Su-30 MKI

Russian airforce has faced stinger missiles in Afgan war and in Syria. These missiles are also fitted with proximity fuse. So even if by chance a missile reaches near to aircraft, it explodes and causes damage. Such attrition cannot be avoided and is acceptable in a war. Please understand firstly that Ukrainian military is no small, and to neutralise it, you have to accept attrition and the attrition rate so far is very less and acceptable. Secondly, all the army and airforces must be watching and studying this war closely from their point of view. Wg CDR SK Agnihotri Retd.

If you are following this war from day one u should know that SEAD is taken care on day one of this ongoing war. In this case It's MANPADS which cannot be brought into SEAD and cannot be suppressed. It's just bcoz of the plane was too low and it was not designed to take hit by MANPADS and fly it was brought down. See frog foot took 2 hits and it flew. Stinger missiles will have no affect on the Su’s if they fly high with guided bombs rather than with Dud bombs .. i feel the strategies followed by Russian airforce might not be so up-to the mark else loosing so many jets seems mind boggling to anyone !!

The Russians were not prepared for the Stinger missiles though they should have been. This was their downfall in Afghanistan too. SU 27 is not meant for low and slow missions. It is a big aircraft that has a big RCS and can be identified quickly. Doubtless, they will learn quickly. They also were not ready for a sizable force of the US Blackwater mercenaries with the latest weapons and years of experience. Russian air force consists of pilots who have excellent aircraft but but are not combat trained. This will happen soon. By 2030 the US will be what England was in 1945. Victorious but broken - a toothless tiger.

The first step to gaining air superiority is having a cutting edge fighter aircraft. Fighters are not geared for ground attack, they are designed to defeat the enemy aircrafts in thier airspace. Fighter jets have to be accompanied by ground attack jets to take out enemy air defences, or SEAD. Russia has not been able to demonstrate this capability satisfactorily at all in Ukraine, and this should be a red alert for IAF.
Spray target area with staggered-time fused dummy bombs. CEP=100 Metres.Then hit with SMART Bombs, CEP < 1 Metre. Follow up with as many dumb bombs as available. Standard tactics.
Basically those 270 MKIs are basically duds.. they couldn't even handle Pak F-16 AMRAAMs.

Russia tactics is always quantity over quality they don't care about there losses but overwhelm the enemy with numerical superiority & incredible Rocket power. Don't forget 2nd world war & what they did to technologically superior German Army.
it may work for WW2, but in the modern world of fire and forget this is going to get costly real quick.
Even China is moving away from quantity over quality. In todays world China has the only man power to go on for quantity over quality but they already know it is out dated tactic and so they try to abandoned. In ww2 there is no full automatic rifles only machine gun is fully automatic so quantity has an advantages but in modern warfare a single soldier can take down human wave assault so quantity is outdated. And also Russia has a small number of population so they should not focus on quantity over quality. USA has more population than Russia.

Hi bro the reason for losses in Ukraine war according to analysis below let me know your thoughts
1) Putin orders his forces for “training and drills” surrounding Ukraine border and his generals comply by amassing over 200,000 troops.
2) Putin thought Ukraine will capitulate by a week after seeing the military buildup and hearing the plans what his generals showed him
3) suddenly when Putin ordered invasion , most generals would have obeyed his orders and hastily prepared war plans were not executed properly in northern and eastern front of Ukraine as these forces where mostly conscripts and losses mount for army
4) That’s why the real Russian air power is also missing in the war because the army and air force was instructed to conduct training and war drill with Belarus and now they are ordered to attack Ukraine .
5) Due to this development.. Russia is forced to use huge number of unguided bombs instead of guided munitions .. even tv guided munitions were also not used reportedly ( which is surprising )
their logistical plans were stuck in northern and eastern fronts.. due to tough civilian resistance hence more tanks , apc. IFv trucks lost as well .. many abandoned due to low fuel. Many don’t have maps or gps
Also Lack of single engine fighter in their inventory to intercept enemy air power is also significant .. in a closely contested air space .. single engine fighter perform better than twin engine heavier fighters
6) Since conscripts are failing to achieve objectives in norther and eastern front .. they are pushing whatever aircraft they have to provide close air support and losses mount.
7) however Crimean front is progressing as per Russian standards because from 2014 it had the real Russian military stationed there .. mr Zelensky always highlights the losses in his south the most as he is visibly worried by the development happening in the south and using his propaganda ( as every country would do ) to showcase his victories in north and east
Going forward I think Putin will take stock of the situation at the end of 15 days and then we might see some rearrangement from military command in north and east to proceed further..
Anyways we have a template in the past in form of Gulf war of 1991 where air power ( around 1000 planes ) were used to pound air defenses and neutralize Enemy air defenses in day 1 and start the ground invasion in day 2 .. can Russia has the capability to do .. yes it has but now they have messed 2 out Of the three active fronts
Coming to Indian air force .. MAWs and LWS are installed in HAL Rudra and LCH helicopter but not in Jaguar , Su-30 MKI and Mig-29. I think Indian air force made this choice deliberately ( its not a right choice as explained in video ) because Malaysian Su-30 MKM has the same MAWs , LWS which we have for HAL Rudra and HAL LCH .. hopefully we install desi systems asap to bridge the technology gap

It could be true that Russia is not using its airforce at full strength n saving it for big occasion like in case conflict with USA, stinger can shoot down low flying targets perfectly so no worries for SUmki, its a upgraded version, even aftermath of Balakot Airstrike episode . Pakistan positioned its SAAB AWACS but they trailed behind to seek n track SuMkI , Indian SUMKi perfectly dodged missiles fired by them.
They are powered by Israeli decoy system as Israelis are master of airtstrike.They have best counter measures.India is blessed to have a Israeli support.

Without MAWS, a big aircraft like SU 30/34 is always vulnerable to MANPADS when flying low and slow.. SU 30/34 are suited to be operated as precision strike aircraft where they can fire their weapons from a standoff range from higher altitudes and also for air superiority missions .. Either the Russians underestimated the air defence capability of Ukrainians or Russia simply doesnt care about losses , due its dominance in numbers. . IAF should use Jaguars for low level strike missions or mirages with guided bombs as was done in Balakot

One thing that's been disappointing in the Ukrane war is Russian Planes and Tanks. Ordinary Ukraine Civilians with 1 or days traning on shoulder fire equipment downed Russian planes, Helicopter and Blown up Tanks. So the better we get rid of Russian Planes and Tanks the better. Shift to French Isreali British or American Planes and Tanks and other equipment..
