Great video! Loved the Double Features series. It's the undubbed versions of Clean Up Your Own Backyard and Almost that are in the movie, so it's not a mistake that the overdubbed versions aren't in the film. The unedited versions of King of the Whole Wide World and I Got Lucky in stereo were first released on a Danish cd "Danske Single Hits" (Danish Singles Hits) in 1990.
This is what I enjoy - delving into the music and all the various releases. Love the Double Features sets, it was so much fun collecting these and seeing what little gems would be released on them for the first time. Some of those mixes are still my favourites. BMG, Ernst and Roger really did kick off the great releases in the 90's onwards, that Joan started to provide us in the 80's.
Same! And totally agreed - I may have (intense) issues with some of the sessions releases, but nothing can take away the amazing work they did on the catalog in the 80's to the 2000's!
The Viva Las Vegas soundtrack [the original single and EP] was issued in stereo for volume 2 of the UK EP Collection back in 1982 [mixed by Dick Bogert and reused for the Double Features pairing]. A year later, a limited edition UK LP [paired with the Jailhouse Rock soundtrack] also included the tracks appended by the other Viva recordings [minus the Ann-Margret duets]. Also, worth noting that not all of the soundtracks in the Double Features series were remixed [Kissin' Cousins, Girl Happy, PHS and Spinout among them]. Excellent discussion, gentlemen.
A great episode. I love the Double Features CD Series. "The Double Features Film Can Set" 1993 was first sold at QVC TV-Shopping but WITHOUT the Card Box (Metal Box only). The release of the Film Can Set was limited to 15.000 in the USA, the release for the EU/International Market was limited to 18.200. The first 4 single Double Features EU Releases have the original european EP or Album Cover Design. 7 of the japanese DF CD Releases have the original EP or Album Cover as a kind of Bonus-Foto included! Thank you John and Jamie! @ Jamie; your Johnny Tyronne Outfit is SENSATIONEL 👌...only the color of the pants is wrong 😏
Thank you so much, Harald! And yeah, I love the film can release - I just wish I could find either of my two copies of that!! lol! And thank you on the shirt, too! You're right on the pants; I have them, bu I didn't wear them for this episode... but I did for a future one!
😎👍 VERY VERY VERY COOL SHIRT!!! ⭐ Get me my lemon aid..lol. I'm with John , Girl Happy & Harum Scarum,my favorite and least favorite..I loved when Double Feathers came out.
Elvis CDs from back in the day when we could go to the record store and be completely surprised at what was released. Good days. Now we know months in advance. Which is good but I loved being surprised. Thanks for the video guys.
Oh, absolutely - great times! I also wish that some of that could come back, even if I get why that's harder to do. It's getting harder to find a CD store these days!
Have got all the Double Features, Jamie, they were my introduction into buying Elvis Soundtracks, and a BIG part of my childhood! 😍👍 Great discussion with J & J! 😂 )BTW... your Harum Scarum outfit is absolutely sensational! Wish I had one!) 🤩👍
Nice! And same for me, they introduced me to a LOT of this music, too! And thank you on the Harum Scarum shirt! Maybe we'll find a way to have those made one of these days!
I have sound track box set, however, those double feature CDs evaded me in Australia. They were released here but I didn't purchase them. By the way, I reset up my turntable and I've inherited my older brothers sound track albums. Fun in Acapulco is magnificent on LP, it gets played plenty for happy time music 😊👍🏻🍷 Ps I love how you guys are so into Elvis in every detail. I was 11 when Elvis died and for many years I felt out on my own. But you guys I'm guessing are about 20 years younger than me, and to see you guys doing this is very conforting and totally fantastic!!!!
Oh, that's very cool! Yes, "Fun In Acapulco" is a great listen! And thank you so much, too - this is Jamie, and you're close, though I'm a tad older than I look; you've got 14 years on me (I'll be 44 in February). But you're not far off!
Another fan in Melbourne here. Lucky you to inherit your older brother's soundtrack albums. I had them all from when I bought them in the 1960s as a teenager, but didn't keep them (long story). However, a school days girlfriend died a few years ago and her husband gave me all her Elvis albums as he didn't need them, so I was very lucky to get most of what I'd lost!
I'm the same with these releases Jamie, I played them to death and still cherish each release! Thanks for another great video. I only have the European releases, which we get in Australia, so it was good to see the US artwork.
Absolutely! I wish I could have found mine in time for filming, but after 3 days of looking we just figured we'd get to that version in another video, lol
As usual for me, I had never heard of these CDs until I saw them reviewed on another UA-cam channel. Jumped on to Amazon and ebay (as you do) and found them all. I only bought the Follow That Dream/Flaming Star/Wild In The Country CD, because I had all the tracks on the other CDs elsewhere. Cute outfit Jamie.
I was all over the masters box sets as they were released through the early to mid nineties, but I skipped these Double Features discs thinking they would eventually release the complete 60’s movie masters as a box set at some point. Instead we got Command Performances. It wasn’t until the early 00’s that I realized I needed to collect all the DF discs (along with Blue Hawaii and G.I. Blues) to get all the 60’s movie material. By then they were out of print, so it was a bit of a challenge to acquire them all but I finally got it done eventually. Nice set to have.
There was also a limited edition Elvis double feature ,4 CD picture version in a metal 16 mm film canister with a photo booklet and 4 b/w pictures and a pin from QVC tv show .
Yes, indeed, David! I have two of them, but we searched for three days and couldn't find either set before filming this - so when one of them finally turns up, we'll do a quick take on it! 😁
I purchased the film Canister Soundtracks at a Aust$35 at the discount xmas sale in the 90s. 90s were starting to get exciting where I used to pick up my regular 2nd hand lp /cd store to fill my Elvis album collection. The store is gone which breaks my heart. Also going to HMV Hong Kong stores to fill up Elvis cds. The HMV Hong Kong stores are gone which breaks my heart. Harum Scarum I prefer the bongo drum movie version for Hey Little Girl. Looking good in the Harry Scarum outfit! I wonder if Elvis/Ann Margaret filmed Your the Boss? Or lost film footage lost in the Kansas City Salt mines? Spinout song sounds amazing on vinyl! Thanks for the top reviews and keep them coming!😊👍
Hi, Henry! Wow, that's a great deal on the Canister set! I hear you on stores - quite a few where we are are also gone, and it's very sad to see. Thank you on the Harum Scarum shirt, too! As for Viva, I'd love to see if any outtake footage exists - though if it does, it may also be in private collector hands. Thank you so much, so glad you enjoyed the video!
The song Fun in Acapulco is faded on the double features series but not on the the vinyl record.................To my ears Harlem holiday, Frankie and Johnny.Paradise hawaiian style, Spinout, Double Trouble & Clambake soundtracks sound much better on the double features series and have been given a better mix than the original mixes.............Great show by the way
Thank you, Eddie! And I agree, they do sound better, and could sound even better than that with new technology! And that's true on Fun In Acapulco, too!
I was happily surprised in 1982 that the british ep collection had all the "Viva" songs finally in stereo on its "Love in Las vegas" ep!.. enjoyed the episode and loved collecting these cds when they came out,im impressed with your knowledge on the different mixes! Yes,as you've corrected the camden vinyl viva songs were mono but were stereo on the cd releases.
Thank you, Dan! And that's right, I do have that EP collection, but forgot all about it! We're suckers for mixes - hopefully one day, we'll get to do our own mixes of the material!
Was this the firsr time we heard "You're The Boss"? I remember hearing it on Elvis sings Leiber and Stoller but not sure which one was first. Love the content fellas.
While the sound quality isn't as good on "Elvis sings Lieber and Stoller" it's the best version because it takes the best moments from the different takes,so when I made my 12 song "Viva" CD. I beefed up the sound from that version, love talking to you knowledgeable Elvis fans!!!
Disappointed 'Roustabout' was a double feature it was a #1 album and deserved to be a single CD the cover was my fave album cover. The double features show little love for the content or history. Why don't we have things like the film version of Spring Fever with Shelley Fabares and Gary Crosby. We need to see Jamie karate chop a leopard and sing to a talking camel. 😂
Hi, Paul! You know, I'm honestly surprised some of those versions didn't make it to FTD, either! I can understand your thinking on "Roustabout," too - that one was especially difficult to track down on CD for quite a long time! As for me chopping a leopard, we'll have to see if we can find a stuffed one to match the movie, and the camel, too! LOL
What about „Paradise, Hawaiian Style“? It was a Double Feature, but it was never released on the „Follow That Dream“ Label. Do you know why? Greetings from Germany, Thomas.
Sorry guys the "Viva Las Vegas" songs from the Camden LP's in the USA such as the "C'mon Everybody" LP was only released in "Mono". The "I Got Lucky" LP was also "Mono"
@@exenx2995 Oh, you're not an idiot at all! UA-cam hides these the descriptions anymore, it drives me nuts, lol - but I absolutely love that you're enjoying the videos so much!
LOL - absolutely! I actually won a contest one year (1998, iirc) doing Harum Scarum and Frankie & Johnny material... with costumes to match both of them!
Just my opinion "Frankie And Johnnie" is probably my least favorite soundtrack and recordings of Elvis' career to be all on one LP. I feel like John watching "Double Trouble" with this one. 🙈🙉🙊
Funny enough, I used to feel that way about the movie! I've warmed to it over the years, though. I can see how the soundtrack could be a bit lacking for some, though!
The single of Frankie and Johnny and please don't stop loving me are the two best songs, beginners luck is pretty good too if the sound quality was better it would help, pease don't stop loving me sounds better on the mono single.
