Hey guys! Great reaction! The guy doing the harsh vocals is a co-founder of the band Shiren. He does play guitar and suffers from a form of tendinitis that is treatable. During this time it was pretty bad and prevented him from playing a complete set during live shows. Because of this he would take breaks and Jill would play his solos on violin. So during this performance her solos were actually written for a guitar. His condition even prevented him from holding a guitar so in some live performances and videos his guitar is on a stand. He seems to be getting better since in recent live videos he's holding and playing without a stand 🤘😊🤘
There's a side project from this band called "Quadratum" Drums, Bass, Guitarist Jinya and jill, here's a link to the solo from "Eruption" and Dream Theaters "Dance of Eternity" live ua-cam.com/video/XC2A1hbuLmI/v-deo.html
Glad you guys are enjoying this band. The harsh vocalist/guitarist Shiren writes and composes their songs. If you really want your minds blown on his capabilities check out their song CADAVER/REVADAC. It's the same song played forward (CADAVER) and reverse (REVADAC). If any of you read music there is a sheet music version where the notes scroll at the bottom of the screen. Keep on rocking and enjoy 🤘😁🤘
The violin makes Unlucky Morpheus what they are. There are a billion bands with two guitarists (and to be fair they normally have two), but the violin makes them stand out in a sea of typical band makeups. Jill definitely deserves her place with the group. That said, I get that it's not for everybody.
I noticed some people not liking the harsh vocals from Shiren, but they do not understand the role he plays in this song. If I remember the meaning behind it, it's an Angel (Fuki) vs a Devil (Shiren). This song is an absolute masterpiece the more you hear it. Jill (violin) could be playing 1st chair at Carnegie Hall, but here she is. She has her own covers of songs that are mind blowing (Eruption ).
The band's vocalist "Fuki" was originally the vocalist of a band called "Light Bringer", but the person who played the keyboard in that band was Kage member " It's Mao. And this Unlucky Morpheus drummer originally belonged to "Garnerius". *Garnerius' guitarist "Syu" and Love Bites' "Midori" are friends. このバンドのボーカリストである「フキ」は、元々「ライトブリンガー」と言うバンドのボーカルでしたが、そのバンドでキーボードを弾いていたのが、ラブバイツの作詞と作曲も手掛ける、影のメンバーである「マオ」です。 そしてこのアンラッキーモルフェウスのドラマーは、元々「ガルネリウス」に所属していました。 ※そのガルネリウスのギタリストの「Syu」とラブバイツの「ミドリ」は友人です。
This song originally has 2 guitarists but the guitarist arm was injured during this time so the violinist played his guitar parts but interpreted into violin. This band has been around since 2008 but it was 2016 when the violinist officially joined the band, so many of their songs constructed did not include violin originally.
Adrian also made the violin as schtick comment in Black Pentagram. It is fine if you do not care for it, to each their own. But the violin sound really hits for me and many others which is also fine, diversity is a good thing. Remember though of all modern music styles metal is most closely and deeply influenced by classical music. Violin makes perfect sense historically in metal.
They also have a sub-group called Quadratum, minus Fuki(vo.) and Shiren (gt./ vo.) . They do a cover of Dream Theatre, The Dance of Eternity, Steve Vai, For the Love of God, EVH, Eruption, Yngwie Malmsteen, Far Beyond the Sun and more!!🤘
the play as a instramental band where jill plays covers on violin of dream theater and ingvie malmstein . they go as unlucky morphous quadrium ,its worth a look
Unlucky is a Really Cool band. Very dramatic writing and Top Notch Progressive Instrumental Shredding. Fuki's voice is Traditional Japanese but Hard AF. Jill is the Real treasure in this band though. Here is a Banger from UM. ua-cam.com/video/UyxM03zOC1M/v-deo.html
Unlucky Morpheus are one of my favorite groups, and Jill is a huge reason for that. No other group has a secret weapon like her. All of them are monsters on their instruments (including the lead vocalist Fuki). Six regular members (Fuki, Jill, Jinya (gt), Shiren (gt, vo), Fumiya (dr), Ogawa (b). There is a 7th, Kasumi, who sometimes appears on stage with them. I've seen them live and they are mind blowing.
Nice! Yes, that screamer is one of their guitarists, the founder of the band, and the main composer. He is also proficient in many instruments. I recommend 《phantom blood》 live or 《knight of sword》 as the next🤘🏻🔥
I am going to mention that of all the modern popular music genre, metal is closest to classical music. Ask any serious musician. If you did not hear the classical scales played throughout this song, I don't know what to tell you. I recommend you guys listen to several other songs by them. JILL (violin) is essential to the band. Her instrument elevates this band above most of other "rock/metal" bands. In addition, Shiren (g on right) who composes almost all of their songs has medial condition on his wrist/arm (that's why he has his guitar on a stand many times) and often has JILL play his lead guitar parts. Her parts many times impart such feelings to the songs that they will make the songs sad, melancholy, endearing, romantic and grand. ---- Here is one that will blow your mind >>>> UM "Cadaver/Revadac" MV Official (with sheet music) ua-cam.com/video/_yrNRhIreyE/v-deo.html (It's 9 minutes long and there is a surprise half a way of the MV. I will give you bonus point for figuring out the whole concept of the song.) Oh, and yes, they can play that LIVE. I have the video clip of it. They are amazing.
Jill graduated from Japan's most prestigious art university. The university requires that students not only have artistic talent but also have excellent academic performance.
Good reaction guys, another song by this band that I recommend is Unending Sorceress, it's brutal and with excellent gutturals, by the way Babymetal released today a new single from the new album that will be released tomorrow 24, you should check it out, it's a banger.
"Angreifer" is a german word (1. spelt differently & 2. pronounced differently) for "attacker" German appears a lot in japanese anime and music. Nice reaction!
A little history, Fuki was in the symphonic metal band Lightbringer with Mao Yamamoto, the band's keyboardist. Mao now with works with Lovebites and a new band Lonesome Blue, which Asami from Lovebites also works with. The guitarist in Lonesome Blue, Narumi, was in Destrose the metal band Miho and Haruna of Lovebites were in. Shiren was in one of the earliest iterations of Babymetal's Kami Band for one concert. Everybody seems to know everybody.
Nope. Lovebites could NOT use a touch of this because they're playing an entirely different style. Please learn to enjoy bands for what they are and not for what you want from them.
Everything that I was going to say was covered perfectly by Socrates 1775. I will add something that is an example of how these Japanese metal bands are connected. When Unlucky Morpheus began in 2008, Fuki was also the vocalist of a good power metal band called Light Bringer. The keyboardist/primary composer for Light Bringer was a very talented gentleman named Mao. Light Bringer ended in 2014. Fuki then started doing some solo work, while still in Unlucky Morpheus, and Mao produced and composed for her. In 2016, a very talented female bassist wanted to start an all female metal band with an old school metal sound. She wanted an experienced composer to help her with her compositions and brought in Mao. Fortunately for Mao, this band was able to find a vocalist with a power similar to Fuki. The bassist was Miho, the band named themselves Lovebites and the vocalist was Asami. Since that time Asami and Mao have worked together in writing some classic Lovebites songs, including the title track to their latest album Judgement Day.
@Maximus Haughton Yes, Mao worked with Fuki on both of her solo albums, but the last one was recorded 4 years ago. Mao has played with many artists over the years and, of course, is currently heavily involved with Lonesome_Blue in addition to Lovebites.
Just to see your reaction, you could try Dolls Box - Take my chance. This is from 10 years ago and is a collaboration between Fuki and Gacharic Spin and like all things related to Gacharic Spin is a little bit odd ..
Hi guys great reaction.. It's a great band and a great song.. Check this one out for violin in metal.. You haven't checked these ladies out yet so go for it they are one of the pioneers of the Japanese all female metal bands.. The band is Aldious, and the song is Reincarnation live ua-cam.com/video/57UvVMWY2Vo/v-deo.html The violinist in this song is Chieko Kinbara, and is not part of the band, the band in this video is Re:No on vocals, Toki rythm, lead and accoustic guitar, Yoshi rythm and lead guitar, Sawa on bass and Marina Bozzio on drums (daughter of the hall of fame drum ledgend Terry Bozzio) Best wishes from France
You might wanna check out the australian band Ne Obliviscaris for another metal band that features the violin. I guess their music could best be described as "extreme progressive metal". "And Plague Flowers the Kaleidoscope" is a good song to start with.
So many bands today utilize harsh / cookie monster vocals. Personally, LOVEBITES is a breath of fresh air for that very reason - Asami's clean vocals. I think it's one factor that makes them unique. They remain true to their promise to continue carrying the torch of NWOBHM / 80s metal. UM is growing on me, but let's be honest, it's not the same adrenaline rush you get with Lovebites. 😀 Good react, guys. Hope you'll do more Lovebites thrash. THE AWAKENING / HAMMER OF WRATH live 2020 ua-cam.com/video/otJZPUCwyOM/v-deo.html. The Awakening is backing track intro to the 3-song encore, starting with Hammer, which has just a brutal riff (no surprise there). 🤘
Absolutley agree. No growling or screaming for me with Lovebites. Asami's mid-to-high vocals provides the perfect contrast and complement to Lovebites' prog-power-thrash genre. Her vocals cut above the extremely fast-paced and heavy riffs to afford the melodic lines to the songs.
Love the female singer Fuki, the violinist Jill and the overall sound. I do not like the growling which I find is both hideous and pointless imho....and is the only thing stopping me from buying more of their music.
