I just received my second Trident Maple, that will join my much younger Trident Maple in my small collection of trees, from a bonsai nursery here in the states.
I found when it arrived, it has a triple trunk. This is something that will be much more of a challenge for me. I am not sure exactly how to deal with it yet.
It is now April 18th here and I think the season for hard pruning might be past for this tree, so I most likely will just let it go for this year, and plan on when would be a better time frame for hard pruning a Trident Maple. I dont know for sure if I like a triple trunk Trident, even though your Field Maple is VERY interesting as a triple trunk.
