First for Sunday Morning Bonsai Breakfast Club 😁 It was a real pleasure to visit the nursery a couple of days ago, meet with Peter who was utterly charming, and his friendly team. 🙏
Peter doing his thing again. Makes everything look so simple. Much harder than it looks. I fooled myself into thinking i could get it "right out of the box". Maybe a little Tanuki in everybody.
Great demonstration and great detail and information, I don’t think anyone tires of maple demonstrations or any other type for that matter, we are so happy you take the time to share your knowledge with us.
I greatly appreciate this wonderful man's wisdom, focus, and dedication to teaching the fine art of bonsai. These videos are helping me to discover my own inner artist. Thank you.
It’s Sunday Breakfast again 👍 When you did your first video you inspired me to go and play with what I had in the garden and although most trees have had a slow year this one has begun to take its shape.
Thank you for encouraging freedom of expression in this art form. My grandson and I enjoyed “styling” junipers into the beginnings of a process we’ll enjoy over time……if the trees survive!!
Hello Mr. Chan. It's always very early in the morning (most might say middle of the night) when your new videos appear in my timeline. Always a welcome sight to see you and your work during my quiet morning time. Today I was potting some cuttings from a favorite elm as I listened in. This gives me great peace. Thank you for existing. Blessings on you and your endeavors.
@@peterchan3100 Hello Mr. Chan. I am in Texas. The heat of summer is finally abating. Thankfully. I can finally turn my mind to working with my trees instead of just keeping them alive through the heat. Good times.
I learnt the hard way that bougainvillea breaks easily. Luckily it was only a branch that broke off and a new shoot grew from the break and created a bend naturally. Lovely video as always, Peter. Greetings from a rainy Cape Town.
Nice hot and sunny here in Jozi we could go with some rain, please send it up this way when you done ; ). This season is crazy our side some trees 6/8weeks early on the budding and no rain. Again no real winter like we used to get. Currently 24c before 11am , we have had snow here this time of year a few years back crazy times.
There is a very nice shop called "little shop of bonsai" in Cape Town that's the guy that taught me what I know, if you haven't already you should maybe go check him out, he also have some very nice material for good prices, I like to go there every now and then
Great demonstration. I love my Tridents, but my Junipers need so much attention, I am at a loss, and demonstrations like this help me to try to come up with visualizations for possibilities. I only wish my Shimpaku's would fill out much, much more so I could possibly restyle them and find a more creative way of showing them off. Thanks Peter!!
I remember this Tanuki, I actually watched that video the other day! And was thinking when we would get a follow up! Omg 😭♥️ I found a Wolf juniper growing by a beach where I live, I’m taking cuttings soon to start my journey
Mr. Chan, may I ask what first inspired you to begin your journey with bonsai? Your videos have been of great inspiration, encouragement, and consolation to me during the gloom and trials I’ve been recently experiencing during the pandemic. Thank you so much for doing what you do. I’m very honored to be one of the many people whom you inspired through sharing the art of bonsai.
If you search through my videos - there is one called "All you need to know about bonsai pots". In that video I tell you about how I got started in bonsai. Glad you like these videos of mine.
@@peterchan3100 Thank you, Mr. Chan. It was inspiringly relatable hearing about the start of your bonsai story. I realize we all begin somewhere simple-just like a bonsai. I hope to have the honor of visiting the nursery one day. Best regards! :)
Another great video. I have seen a very nice example of this with a olive on a big "stump/trunk" . Remember if your cable ties are too short you can link them up to get the size you need, just put on end into another just a little way until it bites.
I always have my eye out for juniperus virginiana Eastern red cedar driftwood. I have carried substantial pieces 50+ lbs a mile or more to make tanuki. You are very inspiring.
I would already feel gloryfide getting more light and air,but eventually tis tree must feel happy, after getting compleyely transformed in a elegant way. I think you did a vrry good job, thsbk you for sharing.
Thanks So Much Mr.Chan. where we live we have an abundance of ground juniper and Ponderosa Pine and Spruce and I have THROUGHLY enjoyed your videos of the different ways you can make Bonsai with Conifers. I have a larger Juniper that I was wanting to do something special with because it was already growing in such a way that it will be PERFECT for a "Tanuki" Juniper Bonsai. We also have a huge abundance of dried hard as iron root wood from Spruce and Pines that will make PERFECT TANUKI structure...I can hardly wait to go out and collect a bunch to find just the perfect match for my first "Tanuki" Thanks Again. Randel Hill from the Black Hills of South Dakota, USA.
@@peterchan3100 Thank You, I will. We have a Variety of Spruce that grows no where else but our Mountains here it's called Aptly enough, Black Hills Spruce. It's so easy to work with and remains very flexible clear up to 1" or sometimes bigger Branch or Trunk. Sure wish I could send you some seedlings to grow and see how you like them but I have NO IDEA what is required to ship them outside the United States ? Thanks Again and keep making videos I learned most of what I know from watching ALL your videos clear back to when you started. Randel Hill
weather here in wesdtern canada temperatures got to nearly 50 celcius. So many garden trees and municipal trees died from the drought and intense heat. Watering was 4-6 times a day sometimes.
Peter can you please help I started watching your UA-cam channel and now I can not stop buying trees from Al over the place . My wife think I have an illness . Thanks for all your time teaching me and all the others the art of bonsai
I’m back on the side of the mountains of Colorado where beautiful bonsai style trees grow in by the thousands all on there own. I only wish I could make my trees as beautiful.
I’m running into the problem Peter mentions, I have an eastern red ceder and a piece of driftwood but the tree is much too small for the wood, so I’m hoping that the tree will work with the wood after it’s grown a little
Very nice sir. Is there any reason that you used cable ties instead of wiring the tree to the dead wood? Cost is what I suppose. At any rate, another fine video and of course a fantastic shirt!
As it is "fake" some bare thickish branch, burn a track of char in a crevice in the branch, lightly knock out the loose char. Saw it done once, on a slope. Looked like an old lightning strike or old forest fire damage on the side of a mountain.

Hello 😊❄
Tamuki are tricksters and visually tricking the eye by marring a living tree to dead wood is indeed a good trick.
Instead of a deadwood can a craggy rock or a small boulder be used for tanuki?
Ah, finally... The deepest of the secrets comes out. He is doing statistical analysis on the trees. 😳
Are you a statistician if you know about Curve fitting ?
Very nice sir. Is there any reason that you used cable ties instead of wiring the tree to the dead wood? Cost is what I suppose. At any rate, another fine video and of course a fantastic shirt!
Could I soak a nice pice off soft wood in epoxy and use that for tanuki cause the expoy would make the would long lasting 🤔
Thank you sir.

Is it possible to buy those plastic bonsai pots? I am in New Zealand and we don't have those here. They would be fantastic to get ahold of.
hey, I think the audio quality is a bit off in this video, content is great tho!
Have you had any success with a pine tanuki?
In NE Illinois, we have had a severe drought all Summer.
