Imani, In south India Each state has its own language. Learn important sentences in Malayalam as well. It will help to break the ice with locals. Going deeper into Kerala very few people speaks Tamil.
Being Tamil I know only few words. Hope this helps.
    Sugamano - How are you?
Ningalda per endhanu - What is your name.
    Aliya - Machan.
Eniku Malayalam kurachi kurachi ariyum - I know little Malayalam
For proper pronunciation get help from Kerala friends. Keep going man😊

Kerala is called 'God's own country' because the avatar of Lord Vishnu formed this land for his followers to reside in...also with it's lush greenery and scenic landscapes along with people of different religions coexisting in harmony...every 1m radius, you'll find a temple, mosque and church..unity and hospitality of the people..highest literacy rate..
Malayalam is the most difficult Indian language but you can always manage with English (don't use Hindi as it's a North Indian language). 'Kerala' means the land of coconuts and every part of the coconut is used for different purposes..it also has a wide variety of bananas.. jackfruits are also abundant here.. they're really tasty unlike durian
