I have narcolepsy and have lucid dreams every day. You nailed it. Great job! I wish I could have seen more chaos to be honest. Waking in your childhood bed and opening doors to places you both dread and desire to go. Running through halls and rooms filled with random unrelated evens from your past, or even things that may have never even happened. Wonderful work. The emotion is there, the music is suspenseful and the mix of extreme joy and sorrow is exactly as dreams are. I felt like I could have been reliving one of my own dreams. We all dream every day whether we take the time to remember them or not. They are the purest and most personal experiences of our brain's recollection of our lives. It's extremely frightening and rewarding at the same time. Facing our dreams, fully experiencing them, remembering them and learning about ourselves based on what our subconscious minds (and conscious mind) play for us every night is an invaluable life tool. This short is perfect and I wish more people will see it. Thank you.
"We all dream every day whether we take the time to remember them or not." This is why I cannot understand why people don't take more of an interest in this aspect of their lives. Even in non-lucid dreams, we are consciously experiencing things just as we would in waking life (key word here is consciously, because the dreaming brain and waking brain look identical except for the critical thinking areas not being as active). Yet people just don't care.
As a book and movie and all around story fanatic, I can't tell you how thankful I am that I stumbled across your channel. I spend a lot of my time researching about film making and writing, always trying to find the most inspiring and well done films; and may I just say, this may be the best short film I've ever seen. The execution of the story line, the cinematography, the acting, the soundtrack. All of it was so well done that by the time it was over I cried for the fourth time since hitting the play button out of pure thanks. It's so hard to find stories that weave in so many elements so successfully in such a beautiful way. Again, thank you very, very, much!
Simply, brilliant. Someday I hope to make films half as good as this one. Also, nice subtle touch with the paper Adam gets offered before he enters the staircase - just the numbers '8121' repeated, foreshadowing when he arrives in the shop and sees the same code (the number is also displayed in the stairwell, and probably a few other places I missed). I love when a movie has those blink-and-miss-it clues, it shows the director has considered every tiny detail beforehand.
I gave up tv for UA-cam years ago so I've seen my fair share of "stuff"...this is by far one of the strongest projects I've had the please of viewing. Thank you for all the time I will watch this.
This is the third time I've watched "Anamnesis" and I still cry at the end. I love most of the things Finite Films does, but this short film is truly the best thing to come out of the group.
Just want to let everyone know that Anamnesis-the short film-is now streaming with Italian, German, Arabic, and Dutch subtitles (as well as English closed captions)! All episodes of the web series will also be subtitled soon. Thanks to our international UA-cam fans who are making this possible!
Still probably my favorite short film on youtube. Always revisit this thing. Makes you feel something, The concept and execution is great. Theres so much I copied from this in multiple projects I've done without even knowing until revisiting back and saying oh snap I did something like that and this is where I got the idea to do my version of that. Props to you guys on this one. Such a good short film. That long one shot is dope where you go through his memories through the building. Seriously this film probably influences me the most out of everything and when I look back at my body of work this film bleeds into that. Congrats to you all on this project.
This film will resonate with anyone who has lost a loved one and has dreamt from time to time that they're still alive. At last, a web series worth watching. Well done everyone. Great script, good cinematography, editing, direction. Excellent performances. Deserves wider recognition.
India loves You!! I recommended this to my friends and they just killed watching it in a row Great work guys Dun know but hope with other languages you can translate it in Hindi also. Kickstart it We'll fund you
Oh my god, that 2 minute long shot. It's just so mesmerizing I can't stop re-watching that part. I can't imagine the amount of time and preparation you spent just perfecting that shot.
With so many comments it's doubtful you're reading all of them, but I nonetheless have mine too. You're going and taking us in the direction of humanity's next frontier, a big surprise, not just to our dreams but all that happens in the space we call sleep most modern societies have an unspoken taboo against taking seriously. We have looked exclusively for the answers to life's big questions on the outside, and you are taking us back inside where the answers are. You don't do that in a cheesy or hokey way, but with very conscious style, at least in the prologue. With that about 'who you always were', you bring in the depths of us, and so this is not just some artsy attempt to entertain. Bravo and thank you. I will say that your attempt to capture dream reality, while it does give us some of the feeling of being in a dream, you aren't able to capture all that well the impossible discontinuity of the dream state. And your first constraint is a bit off: letters and numbers shift so much in lucid dreams and O.E.B.s, you can't hardly read them, and that's one reason science can't validate at least O.E.B. experience, because it often uses numbers for people to verify, and you can't do that so well in such states. Here's link to an essay on lucid dreaming on my blog that describes a real life event where I was lucid in a dream and inside my grandfather's body while he died, which he did a couple of weeks later in the manner I witnessed and experienced it. acollaborationwiththeunknown.wordpress.com/the-epic-of-man/
Extremely well done. Engaging performances, superior camera work, and fantastic writing. You guys zeroed in on the emotions of the viewer. Absolute movie magic!
wow, unbelievable! so good... can't believe i just found this for the first time. I just began lucid dreaming regularly a few months ago... this is such a good film capturing what its like. Thank you for what your doing!
1. you've obviously never had a lucid dream because you don't control everything in it. You control you. you can shift your focus to different things but ultimately its your sub conscious that creates your dreams, your merely exploring whats in front of you. 2. Its much more easy to do something morally wrong owning a computer.... so by that logic you should get rid of your computer! 3. i don't really understand what you mean by that. and lastly, again you have a complete misconception of what lucid dreaming is. Its not a spiritual experience. its having a dream where you become aware that your dreaming, and can then shift your focus in the dream to explore different parts what your sub conscious has created. PS. why are you watching a movie involving lucid dreaming and then reading comments on it and replying if you are so against it? hah anyways sorry if that all came off to harsh but i think they are pretty valid points
Incredible job on this short film. By far the best one I've watched on youtube. The cinematography was excellent, the acting was great, the story was suspenseful, intriguing, exciting, etc. Terrific job!
I'm crying my eyes out. This was the most beautiful film. The way this story was told. Bravo!!!!!!!!! You all know exactly how to weave emotions. Wow. Amazing.
This gave me the strongest frisson I've felt in years. Well done, and please can I have some more? Beautiful work. You and your team deserves a feature film, though I liked the short format of this a lot.
THIS IS AWESOME! For some reason this reminded so much of inception! A creative, mind blowing and award winning piece. Without a doubt I would pay to see your films in a movie theater! The music, the acting, the story...keep doing what you guys are doing and you guys will be great!
Amazing film. You accomplished what many have tried but few could, using finesse to string together all the various bits. Such a complex story, and you did it without giving things away too quickly. Really, really well done. Wow. Bravo.
The writing moved me. You are what you've always been...brilliant! to come to think about it, our lives are on the whole a dream because a human life is shorter than the after/before life. Make more films! Cheers!
Thank you! We are honored to have your response and hope that even now (a year later) you are still passing our work along. We would really appreciate that :)
Quite simply the best thing I have seen on You Tube, You make amazing films, I am telling all my friends about this. You are BRILLIANT, better than any Spielberg etc. Really. Thank you so much.
I have never responded to a youtube video before but this and 1000 days have blown me away. This is good drama in the highest category. I have no doubt there is more of your work to impress viewers. I will pass this along for sure.
The word awesomeness crossed its limits. Loved every second of it. Especially the emotions, the feeling that are depicted at each moment. A big thanks to the movie crew for this short film! I'll surely share it and really looking forward to the series!
simply amazing! I actually mentioned and praised you in my uni class (Studying contemporary film) i hope my teacher shows the rest of my class some of your movies :)
This was friggin awesome. As a film maker myself, I found this very inspiring. The production values are fantastic, the acting is fantastic, the score is fantastic, shooting, everything. Very nice work. It's not very often a short on UA-cam makes me choke up and feel real emotion. This did. Very nice piece of cinema!
Wow guys. I've been watching a lot of short films here on UA-cam but I must say, you blew all the others out of the water with this one! Keep up the great work and I am very excited to see the web series!! Will definitely follow along and be sharing this with my friends.
Wow. With every new film finitefilms produces, I find myself consistently impressed. For Anamnesis, the direction, score, and writing blew me away. The mystery, intrigue, and suspense were balanced incredibly well with the humor, pacing, and heart. The musical cues for the liquid sent chills every time I heard it. And the direction made each scene stand out on its own while fluidly transitioning to the next. Fantastic job. I look forward to your next!
Back again! I just saw the pilot for Anamnesis over at your webpage. I soooo hope it does become a TV series! The concept is brilliant! It's just my cup of tea!
Seriously this is the best thing I have ever seen in my whole life. It's just not fair that you are so underrated! Please keep on your work and do more of that awesome stuff. Thank you
I make short films myself and this is literally one of the greatest short films I have ever seen. You guys did so awesome with this.. Everything from the acting to the filming to the score was spot on. Great job guys.
I think that the film illustrates the idea that he was only "Adam" in his life here on earth after which he returns to being what he has always been before.
Wow, this was amazing. Fantastic work guys :) you've outdone yourselves once again. It's a shame you don't get more views, you definitely deserve it for the amount of work that goes into each film. The directing, acting and music were top notch, and the way you worked the constraints into the film was remarkably clever. My hat is off to you guys once again. :)
What I think it means, is our soul, or spirit, if you will, has it's own identity. That spirit inhabits a body, and that body lives throughout it's life creating a new identity, in this stories case, Adam. At the very end, his forgotten identity begins to come back to life, and leaves his body, starting it's next journey into another human. Although this theory is probably wrong, I love that nothing was spoon fed. A lot of it is up to the viewer to determine the plot. Very strong film :)
I don't see why things like "Cardboard Warfare 2" have millions more views than this... I'd pay to see this any day. Anamnesis definitely needs more exposure
Excellent film. I really love how you worked the constraints in, and that long shot was spectacularly choreographed. Finishing on a mirror shot?! Just showing off really :D Seriously, loved this so much.
