My favorite memory of this series was a live action bit where there was a technical glitch and an image of a test pattern came up for a split second of Doc Brown in a native American headdress.
I remember watching this as a very young kid and enjoying it just because I wanted more Back to the Future in any form. Great video.... BUT minor correction because this also blew my mind. Bill Nye did not have his television debut here but the character actually had been created and shown on the sketch comedy show Almost Live. It was a local show that started in Seattle but grew and was eventually picked up and repacked for a few years on Comedy Central. This may have been his first massively known appearance but just a little extra trivia for you.
That's correct. I grew up watching Almost Live, so I was very surprised to see Bill Nye pop up as Doc's silent lab assistant. I think Nye had also appeared on David Letterman before he appeared on the BTTF cartoon.
The live-action scientific experiments was my favorite part of the show. Me and my cousins try some of this experiments with what available materials we have in hand.
thanks for finally letting me know why loid did not voice doc brown in the show i always wondered why they had him for the live bits but not voice him in the cartoon

I watched the cartoon series as a kid before I even knew it was based on a film. I still remember the moment I saw a clip of the clocktower scene from the first movie played on a kids variety show. I remember (wayyyyy back) seeing a cartoon about The Partridge Family in space before ever having seen the original sitcom starring Shirley Jones et al. Some time later I saw an episode of the original show. Imagine my disappointment when they all just lived in a regular house and there was no robot dog.
I'm glad that I'm not the only one that remembers this cartoon. The episode I recall distinctly was the one about Jules claiming his younger brother, Verne, was adopted. And honestly, I would love to see a new release of the show.
I remember seeing this show on FoxBox. I actually went out to not only buy the DVDs but I also started collecting cels from the series. So far I own 3 (including a Cel FROM THE INTRO OF THE SHOW!)
Another problem with the cartoon's portrayal of Marty was in the episode "Roman Holiday" when while visiting Rome, Marty accepts a race against Biff's Roman ancestor Bifficus after he calls Marty a chicken. This contradicts the huge lesson about self-control that Marty had learned from his showdown with Mad Dog Tannen in the third film.
I'll be honest the timing of this video is unbelievable. I just watched the first season of this show last night! I'll have to agree with most of your points it could have been so much more. But it's still something to admire. I'll keep the DVDs and show them to my kids. Anyway great video!!!

I bought this on DVD about 2 years ago and for some reason both of my half sisters liked it. I remember watching it a lot back in the 90's and compared to the cartoons we have now I see why my half sisters liked it.
Season 1 was legit, as both Keanu and Alex did the voices, but then in season 2 they were replaced, the animation became more janky, and the stories were worse
Great video. I watched Back to the Future when it came out in 1991. I learned during that time Saturday morning cartoons were adapting to new regulations where they had to be more educational for children. So the series also focused more on science and history which is why the Deloreon can travel to different historical locations and the characters using science experiments that can be recreated by kids in the live action segments such as the electric magnetic.

Look for Bill Nye on an old sketch show called 'Almost Live'. It was Seattles version of Saturday Night Live and it was a local show I grew up watching.
I loved the series! Maybe I was just the right age group for it when it aired, or the live action segments that stood apart from other Saturday morning fare. I have the series on DVD and have rewatched it as an adult, and feel some of the differences really are why many people only love it or hate it.
When I was a kid and saw this on TV, I could not let go of 3 things from this series that for me conflicted with the BTTF Trilogy: 1. Doc Brown already in the 2nd movie came to realization that it was wrong to mess with time as it started so many problems and consequences (remind there adventures was also only set in Hill Valley, and yet they went much further) so in the 3rd movie he had decided to destroy the DeLorean time machine (and Marty did that right after he went back to his time with a train massacring the car). And then Doc invents ANOTHER time machine in the form of a steam-locomotive (?) and in the cartoon series we see both the DeLorean time machine AND the locomotive time machine....this did not compute in my head. 2. As stated in the first note; Doc wanted there to be no more time travelings due to the dire consequences it came with - And now they freaking travell all over the world history, doing it far worse then in the movie trilogy (?) it is all so contradict to what was a established conclussion. 3. As Minty said, why is Marty McFly, the co-lead character of the Trilogy taking a back-seat here in favour of Doc's boring kids? Why is Marty stupid and his stret-smart persona all gone? This never sit well with me when watched the cartoon on TV.
When Marty changed the Biff Jorge relationship because Jorge hit biff and that they sed, it was too late to fix it They could just travel back a couple of minutes to fix it. The lightning strike wasn't a one chance only thing. They had infinity chances to fix every detail.
I loved this show as a kid, and they even got Christopher Lloyd back to do the live action segments at the end. On an entirely unrelated note, it was only when I was an adult that I realised that Mary Steenburgen was hot.
As a huge BTTF fan, I was very disappointed with the carton at the time. Marty was always my hero and in the cartoon he seemed like a loser. Btw we also say Macces in Germany :-)
Amazing job Back to the Future is still an awesome classic my request is please do 10 things you didn’t know about An American Tail series and thank you you and I have something in common we both like back to the future
In the US The Back to the Future Complete Animated Series is still available on Amazon on DVD. The Complete Series on DVD was released during one of the Back to the Future Anniversaries. There was also a box set that had the three movies & the Complete Animated Series.
Oddly enough the show did came back as re-runs during the FOXBOX (the replacement for FOXKIDS back in 2003 “maybe”) and it aired it back in the day when they stopped for more anime’s/ European shows to be dubbed it was short but weirdly remembered
Wow... Now I know WHY Bill Nye's show reminded me so much of Doc!! =D (Also, I think I used to get this show mixed up with the 'Bill & Ted' cartoons a lot.) Great as always! =)
Yooooo can't wait to watch this! I love this show. I have like every episode on VHS. Thanks minty. You always think everybody's thoughts... Sounded weird but you know what I mean
This was a really good video. I pretty much agree with what you said about the cartoon, this is probably my favorite movie trilogy ever but the cartoon is...well...yeah, like you said misguided!!!
I like the reflection of the studio lights in your Avaitor sunglass just like the mistake in BTTF 1 where Marty plugs into the amp and blows himself across the room!! Nice nod
UK here.. i was born 1980 so Back 2 the future was at the right time for us.. you know this is the first i am learning they made a cartoon!! thank you, go to go look..
Its nice to know that as of now Christopher Lloyd is still with us. Did yall see him in the movie Nobody? He was a downright action star. Then again, he did do some action stunts in the original Back to the Future trilogy.
I remember asking my mom to take me to Toys R Us, countless times, assuming we'd find action figures and a DeLorean based on the cartoon. I'm glad you brought up the lack of a toyline.
How could Doc (Emmet Brown) even make a timemachine out of a steamtrain in 1885? He had no way to make a timecircuit chip in 1885 or in any time in his lifetime from that year 😂.
Wow, weirdly enough just last week a saw the three movies on a full evening marathon, those be borrowed from my brother from his bluray collection. It was common for the movies to be broadcasted back to back on Saturdays on open TV here in Mexico, I also got them recorded on VHS for multiple viewings, until the tapes wore off. The TV series were shown here as well, but never did it catch my attention, as you said, they were too far away from the original movies tone. I liked the docs introductions and endings, I also believe they got the very same actor to dub him in those clips, so it felt a bit more connected that way. Great video!! 👌
I never noticed the yellow and red jacket much. But now that you point it out... Dan Castleaneta was great as Doc Brown. T.F Winson was great as the biff family tree trope characters. Those live action bits felt rushed, but they also kinda worked for their target audience, as it made the doc look really frantic. Like he was running out of recording tape. The show had a good audio mix for a 90's cartoon. It was Universal.
I love that you are now doing cartoons. Just a suggestion for your next one- Bill and Ted or Where's Waldo but there are so many other movies that were turned into cartoons.
I remember this show vividly. And even have the dvd set. Without this show, I never would've been able to use a sentence I thought I would never hear in my life..... "I don't want to alarm anyone, but would someone please explain to me, who's idea it was to let the dog FLY THE TRAIN????"
FYI, The ALF cartoon, it's spin-off ALF Tales, as well as the original sitcom, came out on DVD not too long ago. It wasn't too uncommon for cartoons to have live action segments like this. The Mr. T and Chuck Norris cartoons had them. This one was before my time, but I think that Fat Albert had live action bookends with Bill Cosby.
I loved the 'Back to the Future' movies as a kid, and was thrilled to see a cartoon come out, but it focused mainly on Jules and Verne, who were just annoying most of the time, I wanted to see more of Doc and Marty. Loved the live action segments with Doc, I never forgot the potato battery experiment and found it fascinating. A 'Back to the Future' cartoon done in the same style as the early 'Real Ghost Busters' could have been incredible.
BTTF was an educational show (the science experiments), as the FCC at the time mandated a certain portion of a TV station's children's programming be educational. These kinds of mandates eventually killed off Saturday morning cartoons. It was too difficult for the stations to meet these requirements so they just stopped airing cartoons and aired news or something else instead of children's programming.
It wouldn't have been until 2010 until we got another adventure with Doc and Marty. Well sort of because Christopher Lloyd reprised his role, with James Arnold Taylor voicing 17 year old Emmett in the Telltale game, with Michael J. Fox voicing an older William McFly in the 5th episode, with J. LoCascio voicing Marty
The concept of having live action sandwiching the cartoon goes back as far as the 1950’s. Almost every region in the U.S. developed a show for kids. They’d take a local personality & have them as host for or emcee for a series of cartoon shorts. Likely one of the best known was Bozo the clown. He got his own series of cartoons too. As for one of the earliest live action “cartoon sandwich”, that would have to go to “The New 3 Stooges” shorts from the mid 1960’s. The Stooges themselves were pretty old by this point but it was still fun to see them getting in some mixed up scenario or another. You could also throw in Bobby’s World as another example.

Look for Bill Nye on an old sketch show called 'Almost Live'.
It was Seattles version of Saturday Night Live and it was a local show I grew up watching.
1 thing I didn't know about Back to the Future cartoon series, I didn't know it even existed.
I loved the series! Maybe I was just the right age group for it when it aired, or the live action segments that stood apart from other Saturday morning fare. I have the series on DVD and have rewatched it as an adult, and feel some of the differences really are why many people only love it or hate it.
Not gonna lie Minty, every time you said "Verne" it made me think of Jim Varney as Earnest P. Warrell, turning to the camera and saying, "Hey Verne!"
This is the show that gave bill Nye the science, guy exposure and lead to his very successful TV program in 1993
I have the anniversary blu-ray collection which includes the series. And I fondly remember watching the series as a kid.
Minty Comedic Arts, You're amazing! I hit the like button as soon as I saw it!
"Great Scott!"
Love you and thanks for your videos
When I was a kid and saw this on TV, I could not let go of 3 things from this series that for me conflicted with the BTTF Trilogy:
When Marty changed the Biff Jorge relationship because Jorge hit biff and that they sed, it was too late to fix it
They could just travel back a couple of minutes to fix it.
Me too I didn't see it as a child but as I got older. Yeah, she had something going on 😁
I remember watching the Back to the Future cartoon series when I was a kid it's great and I wish that a third season would happen. 😀👍
Use to watch this every Saturday morning.
As a huge BTTF fan, I was very disappointed with the carton at the time. Marty was always my hero and in the cartoon he seemed like a loser. Btw we also say Macces in Germany :-)
Keep it up on your work and this video and channel
I love this video and channel
Thanks you for your video and channel

Christopher Llyod was probably busy with hulk hogan at the time 😂 in suburban commando
Been watching this show obsessively for the last 15 years, it's so gold
On dvd?
This was a really good video.
I pretty much agree with what you said about the cartoon, this is probably my favorite movie trilogy ever but the cartoon is...well...yeah, like you said misguided!!!
I like the reflection of the studio lights in your Avaitor sunglass just like the mistake in BTTF 1 where Marty plugs into the amp and blows himself across the room!! Nice nod
GREAT VIDEO MINTY! THANKS MATE.
Great Scott
UK here.. i was born 1980 so Back 2 the future was at the right time for us.. you know this is the first i am learning they made a cartoon!! thank you, go to go look..
"at the right time"
I remember this show! I loved it! I'm glad I have it on DVD now!;)
Its nice to know that as of now Christopher Lloyd is still with us. Did yall see him in the movie Nobody? He was a downright action star. Then again, he did do some action stunts in the original Back to the Future trilogy.
Not gonna mention the most famous universal cartoon studios franchise/creation: the land before Time? Yep Yep Yep! :-)
And during those years, he would not have been enabled to build any of the components needed for a timemachine.
I do love this series
1 thing i didn't know was that they even had a back 2 the future show😂😂
Wow, weirdly enough just last week a saw the three movies on a full evening marathon, those be borrowed from my brother from his bluray collection. 👌
I appreciate your work, Minty. Thank you. 🙏🏼❤️
David Kaufman, Josh Keaton, Cathy Cavadini, and Dan Castellaneta, now lauded veterans in the VA sphere.
Your videos are always the highlight of my day. I would like to see a video about the attack of the killer tomatoes cartoon.
Alf had an animated series that was kind of a prequel to the live action series. It also had a live action intro and outro
Recall watching the ALF cartoon on NBC with its co-opts with the Marvel franchises of Barbie, Spiderman and other cartoons.
This animation is giving The Magic School bus vibes 🎉😂 proably cus around the same time
BTTF was an educational show (the science experiments), as the FCC at the time mandated a certain portion of a TV station's children's programming be educational.
Totally agree, Minty. A gem, but a misguided gem.
"Where we're going we don't need roads!"
Dear Minty, could you make an episode about 10 things about Problem Child?? one of my fave movies
Totally for about that one! Good movie
Nice one, Minty.
Are you going to do a review of Fight Club?
Never knew there was a cartoon. Anywhere streaming it?
