Man,woman and child, nothing like listening to Lyell Bremser again. What fun following the Huskers over the last 50 years. Go Big Red. It has been a treat.
I watched this great game in November 1971. Johnny Rodgers was such an exciting player. This Nebraska team was arguably the greatest in college football history.
I agree, that 1971 team was amazing, Nebraska beat OU 35-31, and beat its other 12 opponents by a combined 472-87, totally astonishing, that list of victories also include Alabama. It is indeed probably the greatest in College Football History.
Except Jon Harrison and Joe Wylie were both clipped on his punt return, and although the referees were right there, no flags were thrown. Both were great teams. Great game.
my brother tony martinez was in the marching band, they had to be bussed over the state line to get lunch for the marching band. its a shame that we still dont play against each other. Go big red, nebraska #1
I became a Nebraska fan while watching this game. I became a bigger Johnny Rodgers fan. The best college football game I ever saw! I live in Indiana, but I am a big Nebraska fan. Indiana has always been bad, so there wasn't much going on. Purdue isn't much better. I hate the fact they don't play Oklahoma anymore. I hope that someday, Nebraska will again be great.
Hunting pheasants with the family and Nebraska football on the radio Saturday and Polka on Sunday! Thanks Dad, your grandson can hit a rooster with the best of them. Hunter Cyril Cihal would make you proud!
Both teams were great and ahead of their times, that is with the tremendous players they had. This game also showed me that Jack Mildred was arguably the greatest wishbone QB in history.
Still are, we pulled through and beat the Oregon Ducks down. The funny part is that Oregon could have beat us had they stopped with the foolish 2-pt conversions. #BlackShirts #SeaOfRed #HuskerNation
Just read the Omaha World-Herald's book on the Devaney years a couple months ago. LOVED what the sportswriter from Georgia(?) wrote after this game: "They can stop playing football now. They've played the perfect game."
It's one thing to win every game by 14 or more like 1995 Huskers did, but the 71 Huskers won 12 out 13 (the Oklahoma being the exception) by 24 including a Bear Bryant coached team in the National Championship

Compared to the seventies and most of the eighties, the NU vs OU games were awesome. In the nineties and in this century the same feeling isn't there anymore.
Nebraska didn't play very well on offense that day. Punt return was huge.

College football is so fucked up these days that if a Nebraska player made a clean block like Joe Blahak did on that punt return, a cock up his ass official would throw a flag on it.
After ? Joe Blahak ? plowed #12 Joe Atkinson @ the 34 yard line on Johnny Roger's punt return Atkinson was able to catch that touchdown pass later. I' d like to hear Joe Wylie saw if he got clipped on that return
This is truly the greatest game of college football ever played. 2 of the greatest programs in their prime dukin it out old school style. Nebraska would go on to oblitate the Alabama elephant asses and oklahoma will slaughter the Auburn kitty cats.

Lyell was the greatest

Nothing better than listening to Lyell...his voice was a fall afternoon in Nebraska.

One of the greatest games of all time! LOVE the announcer!

It’s 2019 we are finally ranked in the preseason with Scott Frost as our head coach sleeper this year

One of first games I remember. I was 5 years old, this was Thanksgiving day 1971. Great game. The Nebraska team in 1972 wasn't too shabby either.
Commentators back in the day had unique voices, you don't hear these days.
Both teams were great and ahead of their times, that is with the tremendous players they had. This game also showed me that Jack Mildred was arguably the greatest wishbone QB in history.
The 1971 Nebraska Cornhuskers were, and as of 2012, without any doubt one of the greatest teams ever in the history of college football.
Still are, we pulled through and beat the Oregon Ducks down.
The funny part is that Oregon could have beat us had they stopped with the foolish 2-pt conversions.

When we had a rivalry
That is really sad for College Football that this rivalry is gone.
Nebraska and Oklahoma fans are great!

The ONE difference in the game!
Huskersnake,
When football was real.

Nothing could be better than Oklahoma vs. Nebraska on Thanksgiving.
Nebraska 35, Oklahoma 31.
This was a great game, but get ready to be destroyed, Huskers. It’s gonna be ugly.
There was no safety in this game.
and then switzer owned neb for 20 years.
Barry was head coach for 16 years. He was 12-5 against Osborne
