    Interesting: In the U.S. the carcass members are 19.05 mm. With an 18mm overlay we have a ~1mm reveal so when carcass goes to carcass we have a ~2mm reveal to match the vertical gap between door pairs.

    Ryan these videos are ace. I’ve watched loads and learning tons thank you . I just bought 30 gtv full overlay hinges can I ask how many would you put on double wardrobe doors about 350mm. X jut over 2000mm 18mm mdf. Also a bit cheeky have you done any vids on scribing to the ceiling. My wardrobes are an inch off the ceiling and I need to hide the tops. Any ideas 🙏. Subscribed 👍👊

    When your using the inset hinges is the set up for the hole in the door and the back plate on the carcass the same as the full overlay hinges.

    I have a question. From the USA. Enjoyed your video. We are a general contractor in Texas. A customer wants stone veneer on their cabinet doors. What type of hinge would be best to allow the thicker door to open without interfering with the adjacent door? I'm picturing a hinge that will extend out passed the other door. If you can, any information would be great! Cheers!

    hi , Can you fit full overlay concealed hinges if the carcus is 40mm and your door is 12mm thick. If so is it the same method as you mentioned in your video? mine does not want to line up so its full overlay . I try to adjust side to side height and all but still no luck . Any help would be very much appreciated. thx

      Yes. As long as your door is slightly smaller than the cab. Like they are on a kitchen

    Hi Ryan,
    With the inset hinges is there a maximum door thickness you can have? Also is there a chart or a system to work out where to drill the cups and how to set the hinges in the carcass. This just my first time using inset hinges.
    Thanks again

    In your example of the half overlay,how would I measure the width of each door to fit the carcass properly using half overlay hinges?

    • @thelondoncraftsmanworkshop
      @thelondoncraftsmanworkshop  7 місяців тому

      I guess it all depends on how wide your doors are.
      Basically, if using 2 overlay hinges on a single 18mm division, each door will overlap that division by around 7.5mm ish.
      Basically 2 x 7.5mm overhangs plus a 3mm gap between the 2 doors equals 18mm.
      Then add whatever width you need onto the 7.5mm, and that will give you each door width.

    Is it possible to slightly adjust giving a bigger overlay?

  • @example2061
    @example2061 3 роки тому +1

    In the Full overlay: when the door is open, it’s not aligned. It’s a bit shifted to the right side. For how much is it shifted? I’m asking, because I’d like to use a Blum drawer and afraid that a door will block it to open. Blum has 5mm gap from a wall to a drawer‘s front. IKEA’s drawers won’t have this problem though. Thanks for a video. Really good explanation;)

    Excellent video. What’s your thoughts on screwing hinges into MDF. Will they come loose over time. What would be your preference for carcass material

    • @thelondoncraftsmanworkshop
      @thelondoncraftsmanworkshop  Рік тому

      Hi screwing into mdf face is fine just no good on the edges as it breaks out. I'd say ply or solid timber would give strongest results 👍👍

    When does the use of a third hinge come into play, as it relates to the door height? I’m sure weight and width are factored in. But I have some frameless cabinets that will have full overlay doors that are 18” wide, made of 3/4” thick CVG Fir plywood. Should I use three hinges?

  • @matthewharris3896

    On the Half Overlay doors, assuming the mounting plates are on either side of an 18mm sheet, how do you avoid the screws clashing? Having a screw shorter than 9mm doesn't feel like it would be strong enough?
    Thanks

    You said you should drill 22mm in from the edge of the door. Is this the same for all the different types of hinges? And how do you know where to put the brackets onto the carcass? What measurement?

    I have 24mm doors to hang 18mm and 6mm planted I want to have them inserted, what hinges would I need to use and would I have to put a door stop on the inside of the frame 26mm back and screw the hing to the door stop?

  • @knanoz4517

    Is there such a thing as an inset hinge that is designed so that when I open the door it comes out flush with the inside of the cabinet? The reason I ask is because I have jewellery tray I installed inside the cabinet and it is on slides. When I open the door to slide the tray out, the door is obstructing the tray from coming out...

    Hi. Thanks for the videos, really useful. I'm making a built in wardrobe with 4 carcasses screwed together. I'm going to use full overlay on each of the doors without any shared divisions. How much smaller than the carcas should the doors be? Each carcass will be 500. Using 18mm mr mdf. Cheers! Ged

      Hi I have 2 sketch up designing videos that talk about that subject I think. There's a few elements to take into account.
      For example:
      If the doors are starting and stopping exactly at the beginning and end the the wardrobe/ carcasses, and you have 4 x 1000mm carcasses. That would be 8 doors.
      So I work it out generally by taking the total (4000mm), and taking away 7 x 3mm = 21mm ( 7 x gaps in between each door at 3mm wide).
      That leaves 3979.
      Then all that's left is to divide that by the number of doors which is 8.
      3979mm ÷8 = 497.3mm each door.
      That's the way I generally do it.
      Does that help?

    • @gedmartin6987
      @gedmartin6987 2 роки тому

      @@thelondoncraftsmanworkshop thanks for the reply. Actually that's really helpful yes. So 3mm gap seems to be the one to go for. I didn't realise you had sketchup videos too I think that could be really helpful for me I'll check them out. I'm designing them in CAD (Solidworks) and then I'm going to get them cnc'd at a local place. I don't have the tools or the space for any other way unfortunately. The wardrobes I'm making currently have each door with its own carcass. 4 total. Thinking after your comment though that I should change this to 2 wider carcasses (1000mm) with 2 doors each. Is it better to have a wider double carcass rather than individual? Hadn't thought about it until now.
