Honestly, Let The Right One In was such a perfect horror movie that I have no desire to this day to see the remake
Same. It doesn't seem like the US would capture the beauty and depth of the original anyway, so no interest here
same but it's too slow burn for me 😑
The remake added more to it. I think you're right. But I watched the remake before I watched the original and I will say to the remakes benefit, I think Chloe Grace Moretz gives her more humanity. It's a tale of two movies with two slightly different takes on the core concept. The original though can't be beat. It is basically as horrifying as it gets.
Dawn of the dead was a great remake. The hills have eyes was also very good.
0:28 The Hills Have Eyes

Fright night remake still has one of my fave lines in all of horror comedy. "You have your mother's eyes... And your father's aim...."
I didn't know that the crazies was a remake, good film, hell anything with Timothy olyphant.
Same. U xan watch the original on here if u look around!
I love the Last House on the Left remake 10x more than the original.
I LOVE the Crazies remake, admittedly I love anything Timothy Olyphant is in though
The Fright Night "remake" was so inherently different from the original that they should have just renamed the characters, tweaked the storyline a little, and released it as a new movie with it's own name.
Counter-point: The Psycho remake
Yes that is what a remake is u keep the spirit of the original and some but make it ur own or like the other gentleman pointed out u get the Psycho remake we got.
Love this movie!
I liked that the Fright Night remake didn't just try to recreate the same chemistry. Changing Dandridge into a remorseless predator instead of a reluctant monster was an interesting take, as was having Evil Ed be the one to spot the vampire and trying to convince Charlie.
I think it's almost as good as the original.
Plus David Tennant was brilliant in it. I liked his look before he started peeling off his moustache and goatie!
I loved the fright night remake simply because david tennant was in it 😂
I feel like the house of wax remake was almost more "Mill of the Stone Women" and "Tourist Trap" than "House of Wax"
I liked the 2009 Friday The 13th Remake.
It was better than it had any right to be. I do think they were a little bit ambitious and trying to basically redo all three of the first movies in one.
@@Kobe24brady12 the Friday remake was awesome
Top fun, the opening is it's own 20 minute movie, and I love it
Great list i preter the evil dead remake to the original the gore is so much better 🖤 👏
TCM 2 is so much fun, Bill Moseley and Dennis Hopper chewing up the scenery is so great! It's my favorite Bill Moseley role!
I love the Fright Night remake for one reason: David Tennant.
I had no idea "The Crazies" was a remake. I thought it was very well done. It left me feeling slightly disturbed which is always a good sign. :)
I loooooooved the Fright Night and TCM remakes ❤❤❤
I stand by the biggest what was the point remake was the cabin fever one
Night of the Living Dead 1990 doesn't get the love it deserves. It's my favorite RE game in a movie. Lol. Tony Todd gives one of his best performances as Ben , I thought the slow creeping dread of the undead was handled well. Barbara was a refreshing update to the character and the rest of the cast did a great job with their roles. Definitely recommend to anyone who likes zombie movies.
Plus, there was a good reason to remake this movie in particular. The rights on the original were lost and the people behind it didn't make anywhere near as much money as they were owed, so they remade it in the hopes of recouping some of that.
Thank you for informing me that the remake of The Hills Have Eyes, was directed by the same guy that did High Tension!!!! I think The Hills Have Eyes is one of the gnarliest and best horror films of the early 2000's. High Tension will always be one of my favorite horror films ever. Even with the plot flaws, it's brilliant. I also agree with this list infaticly! You killed it, pun intended 😉😎🤘
I loved the house of wax remake. As stated, I got to see Paris Hilton die and the final scene of the whole house melting was amazing.
I think there’s a mistake with 2011 Fright Night. The original one is by far a great vampire film.
The Night of the Living Dead remake.. no issues, but no hate for old school Barbara, she resembled trauma in a different way but still realistic if someone were to feel it to a catatonic state. Still relatable to people. Especially for the time. The remake did good by inacting the strong female archetype... for time setting.
I hate the Fright Night remake. The orignal had better effects. And better cast. Sry, that's how I feel and stand by it.
Let Me In...one of my fave vampire movies
The Crazies and My Bloody Valentine are my favorites from this list.
The Crazies... superb. 👏
I love the remake of The Hills Have Eyes.
Fright night was always good I watched it earlier this week
I hate when I get here before the timestamp guy who makes these lists so much better when I already know the movies and want to find the ones I dont.
The Hills have Eyes remake is underrated. Doug became a bad ass! Even thou Beast (the dog) was my favorite. Those mutants didn't stand a chance against an angry Shepherd 🐶
So, many of the movies on this list are some of my favorite guilty pleasure movies.
Also, I’d like to point out that Jared Padalecki was not the only “guy from supernatural,” as his co-star Jensen Ackles was the lead in the entry just before House of Wax in MBV3D.
Ackles and Padalecki were both the main characters of that show as it is based around the adventures of the Winchester BROTHERS. Not just Sam.
I will say "The Hills Have Eyes" & the "Evil Dead" are the only horror remakes that are significantly better than the original.
The 90s Night of the Living Dead was a great film...if you've seen the original. It plays upon expectations. As to the gore...I think it has more to do with having an actual budget than any restrictions being lifted. Some of the best effects had to be cut from the film entirely. Savini had an excellent method for headshots, using real guns and false heads (just like in the original "Maniac", in fact). The effect was apparently so convincing that it couldn't be used. Rough cuts still exist, but they're grainy and hard to see.
Fright Night 2011 was not and still is not a good remake. As @mellie4651 said, they should have just released it as its own vampire movie because it was more a reimagining. Besides having an absolute stand out cast in the remake, it lacked something that made the original so iconic.
Y’all put the Winchester boys back to back, lol
Love Let Me In.... love Chloe
If I remember correctly Night of the Living Dead remake was directed by Tom Savini, so I really appreciated it. I enjoyed the acting of Dawn, but fuck Zack Snyder, he's a terrible director.
I'm so glad you put the Texas chainsaw massacre on your list it is much scarier than then original to me the original, was just a load of screaming
Agree, a superior remake in every respect.
Night90 is my favorite movie ever! It’s the first zombie movie I ever saw.
The 2000's House of Wax was total trash. IMO it's not a remake of the 50's House of Wax, it has barely anything in common with it. As it is, the Vincent Price movie is a remake of Mystery of the Wax Museum from the '30s. I absolutely adore the Vincent Price one and am happy to pretend the Paris Hilton one does not exist.
I can't watch the Hills Have Eyes remake again. It is great, but hits disturbingly so as a one time watch for me.
Not a super big fan of 2011 Fright Nite, but Anton Yelchin (RIP) knocked in out of the park with Odd Thomas.
Honestly I prefer the majority of these remakes to their originals.
Great list!
Wish we could get The Texas Chainsaw Massacre on digital in the UK
I may be a minority here by saying that, but I fully assumed it: I really liked the F13 remake of 2009. I thought it was a more realistic adaptation of Jason. Even though I thought he did a great job, I don't think Derek Mears had the best look for a Jason though but you cannot doubt his commitment to the part.
It's weird that Paris Hilton was in House of Wax and then never did another movie again as far as I know
Dawn if the Dead .... fantastic.
A lot of these are better than the original. I did NOT like the new Fright Night at all.
Didn't know the upcoming speak no evil was a remake.
If I'm not mistaken, the original is a Dutch film.
Whatever you do watch the original, it's available to stream on Shudder. It's VERY disturbing to watch.
The original literally came out two years before. Seriously look it up
Wonder if they’re going to do the danish Thursday I’ll speak no evil
I wasn't paying a lot of attention so imagine my surprise when I looked up and there was Jensen Ackles. Had to rewind and find out what movie he was in cause for a moment I thought it was Supernatural XD
TCM 👏👏👏
The hills have eyes 1&2 remake were great
I feel like Elijah wood unfortunately is one of those actors where when u hear he killed someone IRL its just like "Yeah that makes sense"
Let Me In gave a lot more lore to the vampire than the other movie did if you know how old the vampire is
In fact, the "gore" on the Night of the Living Dead remake was more toned down than the original, thanks to a period when the MPAA was cracking down on movie gore (hence why Phantasm II was so tame compared to Phantasm). Indeed, the original Night had no MPAA rating, so the claim that the original was hampered by "restrictions" while the sequel benefited from a "lifting of them" is typical WhatCulture dilettante fake-fan bollocks; the truth is the opposite. Also, the original Barbra was revolutionary; the "leading lady" becoming traumatized and catatonic was unheard of. Sure, women weren't ass-kicking action heroes in 1968 like they are now, but generally the female lead characters in horror films had some measure of internal strength and smarts. A female lead going catatonic from shock was anti-cliche; the 1990 Ripley/Sarah Connor-style Barbra was becoming cliche by then.
Damn! I was really hoping people finally came to their senses and learned to appreciate Rob Zombie's Halloween.
I enjoy these remakes more than the originals.
Third 😂
Seen all these remakes besides "Let Me In"
If you've seen it let me know if it's worth a watch so I don't waste my time.
Not because I don't like wasting time, because I don't have much.
I've heard it's pretty good.
It's not as great as the original but it's far better than it has any right to be. For the most part, the filmmakers resisted the usual tendency to "Hollywood it up," and kept the chilly and restrained tone of the original. The subplot involving the vampire's old partner was, I think, handled better in the remake. Other than that, though, there's no real reason to see the remake if you're already familiar with the original.
It was a pretty good movie. Never saw the original, but I really liked it. I plan to watch the original soon.
🥉
Let me in is no where near as good as Let the right one in. The only thing that was better about it? I didn't need subtitles
No Suspiria? 😲
The hills has eyes is one of the better remakes as well as night of the living dead. Gut fright night was as bad as the fog remake or any of the live action Disney remakes .
Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake is the best one on this list, imo it's far superior to the original.
I agree with about half of this list, while still fervently disagreeing with the other half.
The only movie on this list I don't agree with is the Fright Night remake. It's god awful. A better movie to take its place would be the House on Haunted Hill remake.
High Tension was one of the biggest pieces of shit I ever watch and the story is a rip off of a Dean Koontz novel intensity don't get me wrong I love the Hills have Eyes remake just don't know how High got so popular considering the shitty ending
I hate that the dad suffered so much but hills have eyes was really good but Fright night remake was pure trash
ALL YOUR CREDIBILITY WAS GONE ONCE YOU PICKED THE FRIGHT NIGHT REMAKE.....
The Maniac remake was one of the absolute worst remakes, let alone worst movies, I've ever witnessed. It was God awful. This list is garbage.
No the fright night remake is absolute trash. It's not funny, it's not scary, it's poorly written, the characters are beyond forgettable, despite jerry's much bigger kill count he never actually feels intimidating. And above all it removed the vampires having powers. I am so damn sick of these lame vampires that have nothing.
The original is easily one of my favorite horror movies, and everything that makes it amazing is lost by that souless remake
The only problem with the 1990 night of living dead is that in order to make barbara better theyToned down ben character. Why cant they have a strong black male character. And strong female character

Please stop referring to the wide range of controversial films made at the turn of the 21st century as the work of a "movement".
There was never a movement.
i don’t agree with fright night and my bloody valentine remake better! Those movie are bullshit trash!
