- Music by a Bobby Short stylin' singer, animation by Sally Cruikshank, and a song about a wild dinner party, all to teaach the concept of "next to." At the time, 1992, cellular phones were a great novelty.

love how back then using a cell phone was such a novelty it's worked it's way into this wacky song
Yeah, at that time cell phones were the size of small shoe boxes.
I've always remembered "I'm sittin' next to the hostess and the hostess is next to me!" Thanks!
"Somebody no one knows who stuck his nose in the soup." Now that was hilarious!
Great lyrics, right?
@@sallycruikshank Yep! Genius!
@@sallycruikshank Probably my fav of all your skits
@@DakariKingMykan thanks
@@sallycruikshank Oh, there's more where that came from...
I'm sure you'll recognize the song here. (Above it all)

This one I loved a lot.
I particularly enjoy this one, since I feel it has the makings of a good story. I genuinely want to know more about these guests. How did the hostess come to know such influential people as "The Bowling Pin Heiress" and "Princess Von Toasterhead," and just who exactly is the mysterious stranger who stuck his nose in the soup?
I've always wanted to know the origin story of Princess von Toasterhead.
I don't know myself. Wonderful wacky lyrics by Sarah Durkee
They came in the lyrics and their names were so specific..
I had nothing to do with the wacky lyrics. The music is by Paul Jacobs with lyrics by Sarah Durkee. I looked this info up on muppet.wikia.com because I couldn't remember who did it.
The family from voop
Good point. But I still thought as a kid the sound of the party blower was cool. But even on UA-cam good song. Thanks for putting it on.
The name "Prime Minister Hoo-Haw" cracks me up!
So That's Where the name for Camp Lazlo's Commander Hoo Haw came from!
This used to have sound effects on my vhs tape my family used to record.
I love Paul Jacobs.
Prime minister hoohaw is a funny person
First seen in episode 3006.
nostalgia!

Thanks RiaE- Keep writing stories! The world needs more literacy!
Funny, I was thinking about this one the other day at work!
When I was little Penelope Bone freaked me out... she still kinda does honestly!
That's kind of funny!
@@sallycruikshank I guess it was probably more scary hearing her make that honking sound.
@LilOilDerrick That's so funnyl I always liked the tune.
Wow Anita really put on some weight.
hahaha!
oh I always have a different idea of how to use sfx with music -- bet I would cringe now.
Moatguy, that's interesting to me. This is a dub off the final video transfer I sent them, so they must have added sound effects later.
Were these tons on Seasame Street at one time? Their style also reminds me of 1980s Nickelodeon.
Early 1990's on Sesame Street.
Did you have any particular names for these characters even the hostess or host? A few I can name are Flippy the Chimp, Princess van Toasterhead, and the Bowling Pin Heiress…
Great stuff. I was too old for this when it was new, but have seen it with my daughter as we watch Sesame together. Wonderful animation. And, Sally, apparently you didn't write the lyrics but I can't help but think that the lyricist had William Burroughs in mind when he named someone "Dr. Delgado".
+Topal Glangus Interesting- I never understood what Dr. Delgado meant!
@@sallycruikshank I, myself, always interpreted it as "Dr. Del Gato"!
I don't remember this one
Whose the artist?
I made this! Sally Cruikshank
Huh, just realized that The Hostess looks like a chubbier Anita
Thanks- have a party blower on me!
Ooh, what fabulous animation! My favorite is the "somebody no one knows, who stuck his nose in the soup."
thanks- lyrics are a lot of fun in this song.
OMG.I.REMEMBER.THIS!!!!
;_;
I love this, it takes me back to watching tv with my baby sister nearly 25 years ago. Even though I was a teenager I watched Sesame Street from time to time (mainly because of her) and I found this bit to be very amusing hence my reason for searching for it here. Thanks for adding, it made me smile.
+Eric Heard Thank you Eric. I love to read comments like that. The lyrics were so clever.
that was awesome
man I used to love Penelope Bone, the guy no one knows, and that dog doctor! I actually used to watch sesame street just to see this sketch!

I've taken to calling my sister Princess von Toasterhead XD
I could have sworn it said "Princess Von Toasterhead is sitting next to a pimp!"
Very nice to see this song again but when I saw this as a kid I could hear the party blower. I can,t hear it on this video.
Prime Minister Hoohah?
olivia- that's why people don't give dinner parties so much any more.
LilOilDerrick- funny!
I'd say she's unclassified.
This song reminds me of a Family Guy theme song.
"Next to the family (what?)."
next to the family from Voop
Hope there's no family resemblance
Can I show this on an animation variety stream I'm hosting? I wouldn't be monetizing it of course.
SheepTV yes
Thanks! I'll let you know how it goes.
