Gotta lead him off. You can’t hamstring his speed by putting him behind Schwarber. The new rules are gonna make speed a much bigger part of the game. You can’t continue to waste Schwarbers power by having him hit without base runners either.
Philly fans don't understand logic so let them celebrate. Once Turner has a couple of 0 for 4 days, he'll see the real Philadelphia. Albatross contract they won't be able to move in 4 years and there's nothing funnier than that.
Schwarber will benefit from the removal of the shift perhaps more than anyone not named Harper. I believe you will see his OBP closer to .350 next year . Turner out of the 2 spot would give you two guys who know how to work counts and get on base for Harper and Realmuto. I believe in the next couple of years, at some point, Stott will develop into a consistent .270-.280 hitter. If you go down to their farm system, the Phillies have a potential future star in Bergolla, he is probably 4 years away. You might see Turner DH when he hits his mid-30s. Overpay, bad contract for the last 3-4 years but worth it given the 6-7 years premium of contention and World Series runs. Good job Dombrowski. Bergolla incidentally is in a pivotal year right now(on average- not definitively pivotal but more usually pivotal) in terms of development...if he excels in A ball @ 18 and makes it to Double A by next year, he is on a Super Star track.
Don't know anything about Bergolla so it will be a name I will look out for. Thanks. Pitchers Painter & McGriff are real close to making the roster. Flying under the radar is what we stand to gain from a full year of Marsh in centerfield. Nobody will even remember the Herrara, Haysley, Quinn, Moniak failures.
The recovery for pitchers who had Tommy John surgery does show better performance two years out, so he could pitch better next season. He got $20M for last season though, and he wasn’t able to pitch at a level worthy of that pay - how much will he sign for is the big unknown, but the Phillies can’t afford to overpay for him.
Yes - Noah and Falter as the 4th starter then Painter as 5th - then go after Relievers: Taylor Rogers (32 ,yrs 2.5 WAR) Andrew Chafin (32 yrs, 2.3 WAR), and Michael Fulmer (30, yrs 2.2 WAR).
I absolutely love this signing getting Turner, he's a leadoff hitter, a run setter. He's always a tough out at the plate against opposing pitchers regardless who he is. He plays great defense and gives you effort plays every times he comes up. There's no ? Phillies fans will fall in love with him just like they do with Harper.
The perfect fit on the Diamond and in the Clubhouse. Turner hit 2nd in LA behind Mookie Betts. I would assume Turner would hit 2nd with the Phillies behind Schwarbomb
That is harpers work .Ever since he got Here if he said he wants them on the team they went out and got them. He is a player slash recruiter at its best. Love it best move ever for phillies was signing harper because without him there would be no reamulto, no shawerber, no trea turner. Love Bryce
A day I’ve been expecting since about May when I started hearing the rumors, but it’s amazing now that it is official! When healthy we have the deepest lineup in the majors without a doubt. Turner Realmuto Harper Hoskins Schwarber Castellanos Stott Bohm Marsh
That's not a scary lineup on any level. Turner and Harper is your franchise and there's no depth. The Nats will be looking back at Philly within 3 seasons. And Atlanta isn't even breaking a sweat. Turner should at least be your All Star though, at least the next 2 or 3 seasons.
@@MichaelSims94 Dude you can't ride fart fumes and tell me I'm the crazy one! That line-up isn't as scary as you'd like to think...thats why I'm the only one commenting.
@@lewislovelord8977 how can you say this isn’t a deep lineup? Schwarber, sure his average wasn’t great for a lead off but he lead the NL in the homerun race. JT was the first catcher in years to have a 20-20 season. Hoskins, though inconsistent at times, still gives us plenty of run support with the amount of homers he hits a season. Castellanos wasn’t his usual power hitting self last year but if he comes back to that player, he’ll be one of the most dangerous 5 or 6 hole hitters. Bohm can hit right around .285 as a 7 hole guy. Once Stott gets more experience in the bigs and learns who he is as a player, he could be real dangerous in the 8 hole. And finally Marsh, sure his average was in the .240, but he also only hit .220 with the Angels but he hit .288 with the Phillies and his speed is a weapon both offensively and defensively if he continues to get on base a lot to turn the order back over. It’s foolish to say this order is not deep from top to bottom.
@@aaronmsmith6 No depth in your system or bench, not the depth of the line-up itself, which I said "isn't as scary as (op) thinks". It's a fine 1-9 for what it is. But what happens when players lose time? Depth is key to dynastys. Not dissing the team, I'm observing the flaws. That's what the off season is about
Turner is a nice catch BUT the Phillies still are a bunch of whiff-meisters. Schwarber, Hoskins, Castellanos, Harper all are coming out of their shoes even with 2 strikes. Between those 4 guys that is well over 500 strikeouts over the course of the season. That is 500 at bats where nothing happens except the batter goes back to the bench and sits down. Hopefully they will lead Turner off, bat Bohm 2nd and then put in the windmill gang. The Astros proved that good pitching beats good ( if not sporadic) hitting. Phillies still need more pitching after losing Eflin.
Pitching always beats good hitting. They are a power hitting team and power hitters usually strike out a lot. All things considered, it was a GREAT pickup imo. Now let's see what pitcher(s) they pick up. When you build a strong D team, you do it up the middle. They are much better up the middle defensively than last year (C-JT, SS-Trea, 2B-Stott, CF-Marsh). Its not a bad way to start 2023. In 2020, they picked up Wheeler. Last year, they picked up Nick and Kyle. It takes time to build and they are getting there.
@@charlesmcglinchy1169 My concern is that they failed to manufacture many runs, instead waiting on a bomb. Phillies only had 9 hits in the last 30 innings of the WS. If they traded Castellanos I would be happy but his contract is too fat for how he played last year. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan but they had a habit of their bats going to sleep after a game where they scored a bunch. They did all year and they did in the playoffs. Spending a wad of the owner's money is what Dombrowski did in Boston and he signed some real lemons : Carl Crawford and Adrian Gonzalez as a couple of examples. They gotta get some pitchers otherwise they will not be able to repeat the success they had this year.

Huge move. They are definitely going to go after a starter and some bullpen pieces now. I expect them to go over the luxury tax again. The 2023 Phillies should definitely be better than the 2022 Phillies

Trea should be leading off. Don’t want his speed stuck behind a Schwarber walk. Also when he returns, Bryce should hit 2. Get out of here with that lefty lefty consecutive nonsense philosophy at the top of the order. Bryce is too good to rob him of like 60-70abs over the course of a season
I’m honestly torn on where I want him to hit. Leadoff is ideal so he can steal, but it also leaves him vulnerable to Kyle Schwarber GIDP. No shift may help slightly with that issue though. And having Turner at leadoff sets Kyle up for an extra RBI per HR, so I probably agree with you and lean towards leadoff.
