I have always been a "fuck warmups lets lift heavy sh*t" type of guy but after trying high rep warmups for my last few training sessions and I have to say I am a believer! Thanks for all your knowledge and advice Matt this channel is a blessing

@@WenningStrength I will visit your patreon page thank you for the quality information
I do ( flat db bench - cable row - overhead tri - facepulls --- incline db bench - lat pulldown - tricep ext - bicep curl ) 2 rounds of this. Changing it a little to other angles makes it feel easier. You are warming up - not battleing fatigue

I feel like I'd be a bit burnt out doing this before benching but you're the pro so I'm going to go for it. Thank you for the great channel and tips. I'm definitely going to get your bench press program.
💯💯💯
how did it go?
@@DuckSau2e I would recommend this warm up 100%. I was surprised and amazed at how prepared I felt to bench. Having a pumped upper back gives you that much more of a stable base to press off of. My numbers went up too which proves Matt knows exactly what he's talking about.
@@abbottfriar5682 thanks for the reply. you did exactly what he said in the video?
@@DuckSau2e Basically. I did 4sets of light lat pulldowns (around 30-35lbs) for 25 reps super set with tricep pushdowns using the same lat pulldown machine (15 lbs) for 25 reps and used a 10 lb dumbbell for 25 reps of standing shoulder press (one arm at a time). Repeat those 3 exercises back to back for 4 sets and you're plenty warmed up. I then only did 2 light warm ups on flat bench (95lbs x 8, 115 x 8). I'm not much of a bencher but I was able to go from just one set of 225 for barely 2 reps to 4 sets of 3.
Thank you so very much. I've been searching for a clear and concise explanation.

@@WenningStrength I must have heard you years ago on a podcast and made my own warmup. Years later heard you again on Dave Tate’s table talk and found your channel here. Loving your videos mate.
Fantastic advice and everything makes perfect sense. Thx
💯💯💯💯
Please elaborate on triceps being the primary mover in the bench press. The pecs are big kick ass muscles that are primarily fast twitch but of course triceps lock out the weight. Longer-armed people have to rely on delts and pecs more. Although, I think triceps are typically involved far more in pressing than biceps are in pulling.

Are you gonna do a video on squat and deadlift warmups?
Matt Wenning has given you a simple and effective set of principles to follow. You can apply them to the lower body, guided by other Wenning Strength videos and your knowledge.
My guess would be hamstring/upper back/goblet squat

@@GForceIntel he's doing it exactly how he's supposed to be doing it. The point is for to kick your butt so that next time you do it kicks your butt a little less and then the next time even a little lesser. Excellent tip from Matt. With Wenning Warmups, you can kind of "sneak" a lot of volume into your program that puts more muscle on you, and addresses weaknesses. I do the band leg curls as warmups and my 30 year history of hamstring cramps came to an end, at age 65 !!! Thanks Matt!!!
💪💪💪💪
It’s funny because the pre fatigue warmup seems counterintuitive, but it always gets your muscles ready. My track coach would have me breathing heavy before real practice even started just from the intensity of the warmup but I was always ready to get on the runway and jump
Yup it’s funny how the exact opposite of what you think can sometimes be the best way
What if I'm doing a full body program? Can you squeeze warm ups for both upper and lower in before the workout?
I added Wenning Warm-ups about six months ago, initially adding two cycles, waiting for my main lifts to go back up and then six weeks ago adding a third cycle. All but my bench have gone up and my bench is back on its way. Fitness and recovery have all improved and I feel less injury prone as a 45 year old lifter.
Told ya so!!! :)))
This video is 5 years old now and it totally changed my training for the better since then. Someone asked me what "WW" means at the start of my lift days in my notebook... Wenning Warmup!
Matt,
Can you give any tips or workout plans for the person with a home gym and minimal equipment except for a rack, DB’s, and barbells/plates?
Thanks!
James buy more equipment or get more creative..
crispybojangles honestly one of the worst replies I have seen in this century on UA-cam! Thanks!
I’ll refer to Andy Baker when it comes to strength and conditioning!
Buy a bulley to put on your power rack for 60 bucks and then buy attachments as you need them. Also, buy some workout bands
Got everything you could possibly need . Maybe think a little harder

Do you include exercises for the smaller muscles of the hip in your lower body warmups: adductor/abductor/hip flexors/etc?
(My thinking revolves around them working very much like the rotator cuff does for the shoulder to keep the ball held firmly in the socket for maximum stability.)
💯💯💯💯

What kind of weight would we be looking at using for these exercises? Should those 25 be easy or would we be aiming for only having a few reps left in the tank?
Because it's a warm up, I reckon we need lots of reps left. Else how to bench after that?
I'm pretty sure the whole point is to pump up, so the weight shouldn't matter and likely won't need to increase much as you get stronger.
Thanks!!! Please join patreon to help support the channel - we also show the warmup in detail there

Pre-fatiguing the triceps before bench sounds counterintuitive. Alas, I am keeping an open mind and trying to learn.
How much do you bench?
If your doing a full-body workout would you do the entire upper and lower body warm-ups or would you maybe pick 2 of each or something.

real.
So could you do this circuit before every single workout? What if you did more of a bodybuilding routine and hit upper body multiple times a week. Would it be realistic to do these movements three times a week? Would there be a concern of overuse in terms of working back, tris and chest that many times. I understand it’s a warm up but there is still fatigue involved here. Seriously asking.
This warm up has been fantastic for me Matt, thank you so much. DO you have a video similar for lower body? If not would it just be leg press, curls, and a hip warming exercise for 4x25?

If you were to be doing say squat/bench in one day would you do both warm ups back to back or do lower body warm up then squat then do upper warm up then bench? Or both one after the other then continue with your squat/bench like normal

Ok I get the concept I think. So instead of warming up on a treadmill before weights, I warm up for 15mins doing these 3 exercises? But what if these are my main exercises when I weight lift?
In other words i typically work on lat pull downs, triceps, biceps, shoulders, benching, and legs.
I can’t squat or deadlift due to 3 herniated disc.
So would I warm up with these with Light weights if I plan to do them after with heavier weights for my actual workout?
Also, what weight should I use for the warm ups? 10lbs or 20? He doesn’t say
