@Dreaming Tree Thank you for taking time to do this video! I think i might have to look into getting SCAL5, as i detest DS for designing, it is just so limited, and so many important tools are missing eg: shadow layer!
you will not regret getting SCAL. And I agree that DS is not "user friendly". I just stay away from DS, unless there is a design there that I can't find at DT. I have a Scan N Cut and absolutely love it.
Wow you make scal look a lot easier, I have it on my wishlist to purchase, I've played with demo but didn't feel too confident, but you make it look easy
I watched this video last night and made a similar card today. This was my first time using SCAL5. I had the first version years ago and used it with my Cricut Expression. Now I have a SNC DX125. Everything worked as planned on my screen and I saved the file as a fcm file on my USB stick to transfer to my SNC. My card turned out about 1-1/4” smaller than on my screen even after I had carefully set my mat size to11.65”x11.73” as marked on my SNC set up screen. Also, my card was sliced in half along my dash lines I had created as a fold line. Maybe I chose ones that were too close together? Is there a place where I can tell SCAL5 to export at 96dpi to correct my size discrepancy? Sorry for the long saga...🤣 You are a very well spoken and patient teacher.

Hi, new to your channel...I was looking for something else (for Brother ScanNcut) & when searching your video was 1st. I remember hearing about SCAL from ScanNCut Jam Sessions channel, but I never knew what she was referring to (even though she’s great & I’m in her FB group). NOW, I see Scal means Sure Cuts a Lot & it’s an additional program that I must purchase?! 😍 Thank you for this tutorial! 😊 New subscriber, here!
For some reason when I use the selection tool I see a little square perforated box that follows it. Then I cannot select the object to path. What am I doing wrong? I was able to get around the problem by simplifying the line and then erasing. But would still like to know how to get rid of that perforated box. Thank you in advance.
Dear Friend, I have a concern: In this program you can make boxes or shaker boxes with different filler digital papers, as is done in Silhouette Studio ?. Because believe me I have not seen a single tutorial of those incredible boxes in Scal and it is really a shame, because I bought this program to do that and cut it in my knk zing and to this day nothing at all. I hope Leo can help me with this concern.

My question is I made a sign with a octagon outline by making 2 and removing the smaller one from the larger one so it would just be a outline. But when taking it to DS it only came in as a solid black octagon, what did I do or not do?

Darlene, I kept having the same problem and found that there was a little mark somewhere that was making 3 objects instead of the 2 that you need to "minus". Look in your layers box and if you can't readily see the extra layer, click each one and make sure it is supposed to be there. Delete the extra.. I hope this helps.. it was the problem I was having but it may not be the same for your issue..
Thank you Dreaming Tree for your great tutorial. I am brand new to SCAL. I got to the part where you erase the dotted line, but can’t get the eraser to erase. What do I need to do to make it work?
Enjoyed this tutorial, I will probably get Sure Cuts A lot 5, as I have a Cricut and looks a great program. Can I please ask, why didn't you change the cut lines to score lines for the card before you sent it to make it? I get confused, I'm never sure if I should select score or leave it as cut? My worry is that I think it will cut the score lines, will it do that?
Hi Lizzie. If you are using perforated score lines such as these you can just leave them as cut. If you have a score tool or score wheel you could change them to score if you prefer.

Did you have both the shapes selected?

Ensure you have the elements selected before using the tools or effects. That is a common mistake made. Hope this helps. :)

Which version are you running?
Leo it is a DX1200 Brother scanNcut machine. I think it was the V4.2 not sure how to find this information. thanks.
