- 1984. Keyboards are becoming prominent in disco music and people are fascinated by their new electronic sounds. The "Emergency" record is released this very year, containing one of the biggest hits of Kool and the Gang, "Fresh", which puts funk guitar on the forefront again.
You'll find chords and rhythm pattern in the second part of the video. They are based on my own interpretation and may not be fully compliant to the original version.
Gear used:
- Fender Stratocaster US Deluxe
- Tornade MS '60 serie L pickups, neck pickup engaged
- Zoom G2.1u pedal. Just a compressor added
- Scarlett Focusrite Solo 2nd gen.
- Reaper DAW

En 1984, Kool and the Gang sort l'album Emergency, avec l'un de leur plus grand hit : Fresh.
Si les synthés sont plus présents dans le disco des années 80, ce morceau fait la part belle à la guitare funk et ses habituelles triades.
Vous trouverez les accords joués avec leur diagramme dans la seconde partie de la vidéo, ainsi qu'un pattern rythmique. Attention, ils sont fondés sur ma propre interprétation du morceau et ne sont pas forcément identique à l'original (entre autre le gimmick du refrain).
Pour avoir un son funk bien marqué, utilisez un bon compresseur et une main droite assez souple.

What are these type of chords called?
they are called "triads", chords of 3 notes

Just curiosity, why do you change finger positions between G and A? Is it a question of comfort?
Hello Alejandro, yes it is totally a question of comfort. I use this finger position on the G because the previous triad is the "bar" chord Bm. But I prefer the "D-shape" chord form for the A because it is a stronger position and helps with the muting/pressure releasing
