Really GREAT explanation. No fulff. Right to the point.

I learned ball position from Pete about..oh 6/7 years ago? I still use that left (or in my case right foot as I am a southpaw) flare out for driver method, and the start at center and step out on each side. Simple, easy, consistent. Thanks a mill Pete :) now how the hell can i stop that slice? :)
@FernandoJorgeCalcada I don’t know if you’ll see this or have already found an answer, but at least for me I was told to make sure my wrist is rotating in my swing, and to feel like I’m walking through my drive rather than falling back after my swing. This helped my swing a lot especially on drives. Hope this helps!
Thanks for the tip Peter finch. I got a question for everyone, what's the best distance we should stand from the ball with driver?...... Is it the length of the driver from the ball to feet?
This is crazy. I've always been under the impression that short irons should be almost on line with the inside of my back foot. No clue where I got that idea, but im excited to try this
It must be something floating around with the millions of people trying to invent problems you don't actually have with golf (it sells), cause I also thought I was told this: 7 iron is neutral (not forward at all) then you work forward or back depending on club.
Love the quick reminders Pete! Now if you could make a video about what to do when your swing suddenly feels like a foreign language, I'd really appreciate that. Not sure if it's a mental thing or something about not having played in a few weeks, but my range session yesterday featured the most awkward and worst feeling golf that I've ever played, and I cannot put my finger on exactly what happened. I have an idea, but I'd love tips on how to just relax and get back into a better mental and physical state after a rough day.
I here ya. I shot my best round in 20 years, a 1 over 73. 10 days later I played 9 holes and shot 49!! Wasn't even sure what end of the club to hold. 😢
You play the ball wherever you feel comfortable playing it from and it has to do with where you bottom out with the club. All my irons are typically played in the front of my stats. Driver is way forwarded by stance.
I feel like for me I find it most comfortable to use P,W,9 and 8 way off the back foot. Seems to be the easiest to really get down into the ball that way and get good loft.
Pete - Great video. Something I constantly see is when i struggle, i start moving the ball postion more and more forward and need this as a reminder. Do those positions stay true if you're teeing the ball up as well?
I've found my ball position for my driver is actually outside my front foot for better shots. For me anything inside leads to slices. Outside allows me a little more time to close my club face and hit straighter shots.
Jack Nickaus liked to keep the ball a little inside, left heal at all times, I believe, he said and drop right foot back on longer clubs and drop left foot back on the shorter ones, roughly in the middle of stance 6 and 7 iron if I'm not mistaken? This video method is probably the most common ball position.
Great video, how is the classification of short mid and long iron adapting as the lofts are getting stronger? Should the ball position of an old 5 iron be the same as one of a more modern one?
Hybrid is not so simple that is the right postion for tee shots but for off the fairway or "deck" you want it about in the middle or youll hit up on it
I have a tendency to bend over too much at setup. Any suggestions for how upright I should stand? I Believe that gets me too far away from the ball, resulting in a”toe up” lie. Thoughts?
Well, if you're anything like me, then you have poor rotation in your swing, which is causing you to jam up. Your mind thinks it needs more space, and you find yourself "standing/humping" up in the stance lifting the club before it gets to the ball. Also, driver's sell with longer shafts to create the illusion of distance (over accuracy) so you might just need to get fitted shaft properly.
This tip helped me 2 weeks ago, I shot a 90, my putting game has always been great. But my irons, wedges, fairway and driver game was horrible. I practiced this and shyt took +20 off my game
I hope I don't piss too many people off playing my first game. Practice but pressure is horrible. I need to find a quiet green I can take my time. Not that I dont think I can do it, I just don't want pressure on my first time out.
Best video I’ve seen explaining this, thank you 🙏🏻
Cheers Pete this is good wee reminder. I have a tendency to overlook ball position and will work more on it as season goes on.
Very clear, no wasteful fluff! Excellent advice, many thanks.
Good start. Looking forward to more. How about club face? Chip and sand shot..................
Excellent tips. Thank you
61 and first time on golf driving range yesterday. I loved it and am getting some second hand practice clubs
I hope it’s going well and enjoyable!
I’m getting back into the game after many years away, so your guide was really helpful in the getting the set up right👍

Simple and effective video. Great info 😃👍

That’s old Golf if anything play all your clubs even you shorts slightly in front of your stance
Love the quick reminders Pete!

Great video! Thanks
So 4 iron off the back foot is not ideal, you say🤣
Lmaoo
Gets me out of the trees all the time.
Great video and information but my question is the distance for the hybrid clubs the same as the woods or 5,6&7 irons? Thanks

Pete!!!! Can you do one from British style rough. Realistic shots and distance control?
Thank you!
Very helpful!
Simple. I like it.

Word!

The longer the club the closer to the front foot is where you place the Ball, & the longer the club the wider the stance

Ball Position has more to do with the Increase in Shaft Length, rather than the decrease in loft.
@@apaulmcdonough2170 Thank you! That makes sense.
I believe it all depends on where you bottom out with the club. That’s where you play the ball. It can be different for everybody.

how about hybrids?
I know this video has been out for a while, but why do we put the front foot sideways with the wood hybrid and driver clubs? (Beginner golfer)
i think i just gives you more room to swing and feel more comfortable, not everyone does it tho
Wow, been doing it the wrong way all this time, been playing longer irons at that back off my stance. No wonder I’m rubbish 😂
Hybrid same position as long iron?
Yes indeed
Why do I hit my driver better if I put it back further than suggested by most? I top the ball everytime I put it at the front of my foot

A case for single length irons.
5 Hybrid Position ? - I always seem to Hook that club ?

Am I the only one that plays 9,8,7 more near the the front?
I can only hit a 5 iron
