I have watched this several times and followed your instructions step by step. My text does not become a mask, the whole page does. The end result, however, is the same. I'm using Photoshop CC 2018, has there been a change or is there something I need to invert? Seems to me it's just as easy to use the regular text tool and make a clipping mask anyway.
Last two vids have been pretty helpful to me, I write Kindle books and designing the covers is mostly the use of Topography, so these have shown me a few things I was not aware of that I think can be useful. If you ever get a mind to make a video about book cover design that would be great! Specifically covers for Kindle books.
Couldn't you just make a new text layer with the standard type tool and then clip it to the clouds layer? That way you would also be able to change the text later on..
Tool well explained. But I would discourage this method of "masking type" as it's somewhat destructive. Instead people should use live text with a clipping mask so it can be edited or resized -- I'm sure you know this, but it would be worth mentioning in this tutorial! :)
+Daniel Dumond 100%, Daniel! Thanks for the PSA. People do need to know that this is definitely NOT the best way to go. Live text + clipping mask is the bomb. 👍
Thanks! This series of videos has really helped expand my photoshop abilities/knowledge.
+Luke Kroeker Thanks, Luke! Glad you find them useful!
Nice tutorial. It is a good think you explained the GREEN color change. Almost went nuts when doing the mask over a red picture.
I know the video is old, but how do I free transform if i want the letters to move at an angle? Thanks

+pcfreak1992 That would be the best way to do it. This tutorial just covers this particular tool. It's definitely a crappy tool.

+DaLink 955 Thanks for the comment!
I actually never applied myself to use it. Knowing now that's it's there and what its purpose is might save some time, though...
+Denis Sooma Glad to help, Denis!
fine. I'll learn how to use the type mask tool Even tho I've never heard about it.
+Jerry Harlan Haha. Glad you're following along! It's a crappy tool though. 😂
That will be fun to play around with. But you should have gone with 'Norwegian Blue.'
